Midway sends along a short Press Release announcing that Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks (http://mkmonks.com/) has Gone Gold.

Midway Games today announced that the one of the most unique and heavily anticipated Mortal Kombat titles ever, Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks, has gone gold and will ship to stores for both the Sony PlayStation 2 and the Microsoft Xbox video game system on September 26th, 2005.

The development team at Midway Studios, Los Angeles, along with the core MK creative team at Midway Studios, Chicago, has joined forces to take the best-selling Mortal Kombat franchise into the action/adventure realm. Mortal Kombat fans can now experience the MK franchise from an entirely new action/adventure perspective with the first-ever Multi-Directional Kombat System and explore the MK II universe as two of the series' favorite Shaolin Monks: Liu Kang & Kung Lao in either single- or multi-player action.

This actually looks really cool. I can't imagine any conceivable chain of events that would lead to me playing this game, but if there were, I think I'd enjoy it.

I enjoyed the hell out of the demo very very different. It will be a Rental that's for sure.

I WAS interested UNTIL I played the demo.

Tiny little characters, button-mashyness, glitch-o-rama collision, boring backgrounds, contrived fight sequences...

Snooze...

There are way better games of this type (LOTR, SW:ROTS, DMC3, etc). I'll pass..

What exactly does 'Gone Gold' mean?

It means that the game is finished, and the "gold" master disk has been released to replication.

"What exactly does 'Gone Gold' mean?"

In laymans terms 'Gone Gold' means that the developers are done making the game, and it is ready for release to the public after going through the packaging and shipping motions.

And the odd little "Gone Gold" term itself comes from the fact that they put this completely finished product on an actual golden disc. That shiny disc there is the original that is copied to make the games that get to our hands.

I liked the demo a lot. But I would really like to see something on the ends of the Bouncer with better fighting mechanics though. I want a great 3D brawler, but I haven't seen one yet. This one will satiate me for a brief period of time.
