Today is the release day of the Sorrows Furnace (http://www.guildwars.com/products/sorrowsfurnace.html) expansion for Guild Wars. Along with new Items, Quests and Skill balance changes you can download new music via Direct Song (http://www.directsong.com/) for free.

IGN has a nice preview up (http://pc.ign.com/articles/648/648244p1.html) of the update.Entering the Furnace itself is like moving into some sweaty nightmare. Slaves wander the halls while Stone Summit Dwarves crack the whip. The air is murky and thick inside the caverns. This huge indoor area will be a pretty interesting thing for players. The engine was originally designed to render outdoor areas with aplomb, but the design team has managed to turn it into an indoor wonder. Each new area inside this maze of heat and pain bring players closer to the belly of the beast, a gigantic furnace churning out massive amounts of heat. Everywhere in the furnace are moving parts, chains, scaffolding, gears, cogs, mechanisms for this and that… it's a wonderland of industry. It's also incredibly severe with dangerous sharp points and easy use of reds, oranges and yellows.

Can't wait to go home and check this out. Still have 2 more missions to beat though.

It's the 7th, but I don't see how to get to Sorrows Furnace.

You're just supposed to log in, apparantly.

When you zone into the zone it downloads it automatically. No need for a patch unless you go there.

I'm still pre-searing.

Oh the grind that is pre-searing!

^ Huh? There's no grinding in GW and pre-searing takes like 10 minutes, maybe 20 if you try to do every quest available to you.

On topic: this has given me another boost of encouragement to try and finally ascend, I still don't even know what that's all about!

10 min? I wanna see you do pre-searing in 10 min. You can't even gain the first level in 10 min.

Ok, I'm being rediculous, but it is a comparitively short section of the game if you just do the main quests and don't try to kill every creature trying to level up. In GW, as opposed to most mmorpgs, repeated "bunny bashing" is not the best way to progress.

I dunno... I did every quest available and it took me at least six or so hours. That probably will lessen on further runs, but still not much.

Can anyone tell me at what stage the new content is available to your character? Is it only for ascended characters?

Pretty sure it says that in the link.

These new areas are challenging and are intended for Ascended characters (those who have reached Level 20).
