I thought about going to see Narnia...I really did. I might still go see it instead of Indiana Jones.

We too came close to seeing Narnia yesterday. For whatever reason, we did not. Oh well.

Interesting to note that both Speed Racer and the new Narnia film are considered flops by the studios.

Speed Racer was a dismal flop and next weekend will be its final death cries as it almost drops off the list and Narnia was expected to do $80 Million or at least do better than the $65 Million opening weekend for the first film.

Whaaa.... the weekend isn't even over? Does my second $10 spent on Iron Man not count towards the total?!

Unlike Speed Racer I don't think Narnia is seen as a bad movie though, it just got a bad week jammed in between Iron Man and Indy.

I thought it was a little early for the chart to come out also, but I'm glad I found it before it got buried under all the Indiana Jones news.

Maybe it's projected totals or something?

And yet, somehow I'm sure Hollywood will find someway to claim that this is all due to either:
A) Piracy

or

B) GTA IV

Never mind the fact that approx 80% of all movies coming out today are the same regurgitated piss as last year, but what the hell do I know ? If Hollywood wants some profits perhaps they should focus on making less films with more quality attached to them.

Yeah, according to Box Office Mojo (http://www.boxofficemojo.com), that number is an estimate. The actual numbers usually don't come out 'til Monday.

I went to see a movie with my gf this weekend. My request for 2 tickets to see Speed Racer was promptly responded to with a loud giggle behind the ticket counter. I then quickly adapted to the situation with a "by Speed Racer I mean Forgetting Sarah Marshall" statement. Thanks my local friendly Landmark for making me see a great movie instead, it even got me laid.

Narnia was actually not bad in any right. An enjoyable romp, if not a bit anticlimactic. Also, any fantasy film that ends in an actual song with lyrics (as opposed to an orchestration) seems a bit cheesy...

I hope this is karma for last year's summer box office. Hollywood didn't really deserve to make 300 billion that summer, with crap like Spider-man 3 and Shriek.

This month was supposed to be big, with a heavy hitter each week, (Iron Man, Speed Racer, Narina, Indiana Jones). But I've only had the drive to see Iron Man.

I think this summer is going to be a bust box office wise.

Pretty impressive Harold and Kumar 2 took in 33 million. It only cost 12 million to make.

Yeah....you know you've made a dud of a movie when you (Speed Racer) haven't eclipsed Harold & Kumar yet.

I guess I was wrong, Iron Man isn't going to make $300M. I blame the economy. And piracy. And GTA 4.

Speaking of karma.. Take that Wachowski Bros. for the Matrix sequels AND games!;)

Approximately $140 million.

You're crazy. It'll break $300 million domestically. Just you wait.

To make a quick correction, as I don't see a way to edit my post. 2007 made 4.15 billion. Not the crazy number I spat out.

Iron Man still has legs. Most likely next week it'll still be at the number 3 spot. It has a while to fall completely off the rader. I still need to go see The Forbidden Kingdom and Forgetting Sarah Marshall.

Whatever producer thought that Prince Caspian would somehow do better than Lion, Witch, Wardrobe is an idiot. How they expect profits to keep increasing when the first movie is BY FAR the most well known book is beyond me.

I don't get it... sarcasm? Indy is number 1 next week, no ifs, ands, or buts about it. Caspian might chug along but Iron Man is number 2 or 3 next week for sure.

Yeah, Sarcasm. :) I want to see Iron Man just continue to be in the top ten a month from now when the rest of the blockbusters drop off completely.

Yeah, I think Indy will only go strong for a week or two if the ratings and mood of the film aren't up to snuff. I'm proud of Iron Man.

Hey, I liked H&K2! It did what it set out to do: make me laugh and make the movie company money.

Thank God SR didn't do well. It was always a crappy cartoon in my book and I'm glad the movie continued that tradition.

Went to see Caspian Saturday afternoon and was really underwhelmed. For whatever reason, I just didn't connect with the characters this time around...which made the movie seem to drag on horribly between the battle scenes. Even the duel didn't particularly catch my imgination (slow motion John-Woo style sword strikes FTW). Oh well, call me disappointed.

I agree. Not really a Narnia book enthusiast so I wasn't sure what I was in for here. Caspian himself was uninteresting. Peter seemed to regress into the character he was early first movie and none of his siblings had a very big part in the movie. Edmond was the most interesting if you ask me, cause he was the only one who actually apeared to change since last time out. He didn't have as many lines as the goddamn mouse however.

Yeah, the first movie was Santa Clause, a lion, centaurs, rhino's, cheetah's and gorillas vs a evil witch, minotaurs, wolves and polar bears.

The prince has to be really really interesting to beat that.
