Good news for those who enjoyed Electronic Art's Skate (http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3167764) last fall. First from the absolutely shocking department; a sequel to Skate is in the works, tentatively titled Skate 2. Perhaps a little more interesting is the announcement of Skate It for the Wii, which will utilize the WiiFit board for its controller. Skate It will be coming out on the DS as well.

"We knew it would be an exciting challenge to bring the soul and feel of skateboarding to the Wii and Nintendo DS," said Scott Blackwood, executive producer of the Skate franchise. "With fresh new designs and gameplay components built from scratch, we've been able to, once again, capture the true experience of skateboarding in a completely innovative way."

I really enjoyed Skate; thought it was one of the best games I played last year. So I am excited for Skate 2. As for Skate It and the WiiFit board, I am very skeptical that they can pull it off, but it could be amazing.

Just to be clear; Skate It on the Wii can also utilize the Wiimote for control, but I fail to see how this would be any better. What are you gonna do? Throw it to perform a tre?

Yeah, I saw this yesterday when I was doing a news story for Skate It. It seemed rather odd that they would bury the SKATE 2 announcement so deep and reveal absolute nothing else about it.

I suppose this lets current fans know they haven't forsaken the other next-gen systems, while still leaving room for a big E3 reveal...

If the snowboarding in Wiifit is any indication this will be incredibly hard...

....uses the wiifit board to control a skateboard.....
not sure what to think about that.

I bet it'll be like that skateboarding arcade game. You just kind of had to lean a lot.

My mind is reeling at the possibilities. Will you be able to actually pump in transitions to gain speed? Will you do flip tricks by positioning your feet accurately? will you ollie by jumping?

The Wiifit board is an option. You don't need to use it if you don't want to.

No, indeed it is not. I am seriously contemplating using some of this here stimulus check to check out Rock Band though. Then Again, I could finally get a Wii.

Imagine there were... two things you could buy.

I was always taught not to spend it all in one place...

I still play Skate consistently on 360.

I hope they listen to all the community suggestions (http://forums.ea.com/mboards/thread.jspa?threadID=308660&tstart=0) for Skate 2.

I mean it could be considered *two* places.

But yeah. I suggest finding a friend with rock band and giving it a shot or picking up just the game if you've already got a guitar.

Picking it up in chunks over time makes it a lot more bearable.

Skate is a great game. I haven't played it in a while, but I had a lot of fun with it when I got it.

I'll definitely pick up the sequel.

As for Skate It... I'm going to submit right now that you'll only steer your character with the balance board. I'm betting you'll still have to hold the Wiimote to do tricks. I'm calling it now! Remember this post!
