For those of you who've played Ikaruga, the title alone should be enough to inspire you to go download this video, and goggle.
For those of you who haven't played it, download the vid if you wish to be amazed by the ridiculous hights of coordination and skill it is possible to reach.
Check it out. (http://s41.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=2F51X7QDOTWLU0HGXU2UKEXF2E)

Holy shit. I cant beat the first level on the hard setting. Yea, I suck at it, but still, its goddamned hard.
Great game, I never could beat it without infinite continues, and the farthest I could get without any continues on normal was the start of level 3. Really, really fun and I'm not even a fan of shootem-ups.

I think I've beat it once in my entire time of owning it, and that was with a friend. Although, to beat it on the hard setting-
-downloading now ......

After finishing the video, I know only two things:
a) I'd like to buy that man / woman a beer.
b) I have a fucking splitting headache.
Chagrinful

Thats amazing, they definately deserve a beer for that. I wonder what their job is? Or if they have one?

Thats really all I have to say...just....damn.
So THAT'S what it looks like when Jesus plays a videogame...

I might have to find a copy of that game. Been looking for a game like that for a while.

I don't get it - it looks like he has a force-field protecting him from all damage all the time. I've never played the game, but it certainly doesn't seem too impressive to me..

The ship has two forcefields, one light and one dark, and they protect you from their respective type of damage. Adds a bit of tactics to the game, as you have to switch between them and there is a slight delay when you do (the ship rotates).
If you don't think it's impressive, you clearly haven't played the game :D

Oh don't get me wrong, I'm sure it's impressive. I just didn't think it looked that way having not played it.
Something like Ninja Gaiden is amazing to watch (with an ace player) because you don't need to know anything to see the player is reflex-tastic.
You die in a single hit. Believe me, it's one of the most impressive displays of videogame-related talent I've ever seen.
The man's reflexes are simply god-like.

Wow. Just wow. I've been playing this game since before the Dreamcast days. This almost tops the video of the guy who played it using two hands and flying both ships.
I specifically kept this game for the DC and made an arcade cabinet just for this game, and this was after trying to get the original arcade machine. Sorry, I don't have 10k. Treasure, will you marry me.

I really hate those people in threads who come in just to say "old" or "pft" when there's something genuinely cool or new, but while this is awesome I hafta say I wasn't that impressed. Maybe it's because shmups are one of my favourite genres and I buy the Japanese appreciate DVDs (incl the Ikaruga one) and as people have said, provided you know the game mechanics, there's some even more insane stuff out there. If you wanna see more of this sort of stuff I'd reccomend buying an appreciate DVD of your favourite shmup, they might be a little rare and expensive but they're well worth it. My favourite is my DVD of Shikigami no Shiro 2, it's truly amazing how precise those players move, and every move with so much purpose, some of the tricks they use to max their scores and the strategies they come up with... I didn't even know you could DO some of the stuff they do, and shmups are one of the most basic of game genres out there.
So yeah, if you wanna see more of this stuff, I thoroughly reccomend hunting out the J DVDs, but make sure you've played the game first so you realise just how inhuman these people are.

I hope this isn't going to be like the 10 minute mario completion thing. (although doing that the way he did is almost as impressive for his capacity for single-mindedness)

Mirror for the video? It seems the link has exceeded its bandwidth.
And i guess its not the same guy who beats Ikaruga on hard this page (http://www.ikaruga.co.uk/downloads/videos_chapters.php?play=1p&mode=arcade&diff=hard) .
And if its more impressive than that, then wow...

Yeah, I think we need a mirror. Perhaps a torrent is in order?

Why a rar? Packing it only saves 2 megs. It's already a 300+MB download.

Also, I now have a new god.
When they say perfect, they mean with chains. Insane. I have the Appreciate DVD and this just totally made $50 I paid for it to be worthless! (I love Ikaruga)
I think he missed maybe ten enemies in the whole video. I wish he would have shown his total playing time since getting to this skill level.

I'd like to see Radiant Silvergun finished on hard, no deaths, perfect chains. That would be a sight to see. (I believe RS is much more difficult than Ikaruga).

I love this stuff.
This really is fantastic. You can't just be 'good' at Ikaruga. You have to excel at it to beat it. I used to be able to get midway through the last level on my first continue. And I consider my a pretty good player.
This is insane. In the world one-hit deaths, this is special.

I agree with GrinR here. I've never played the game and this video looks like he is flying through everything with his forcefield on (red or blue). I suppose it's impressive, but it doesn't look like it.

If you watch the demo mode it does this, too. It even completes the game without firing a SINGLE shot.

That is amazing. I wish it were me.
This is the game I play when I need to sharpen my skills. No other game tests my reflexes and such to this crazy of an extent. This guy could prob beat anyone on any video game because of that kind of skill.

...and that is all he does...
To those of you who are not impressed, all I can say is try it. Also, the forcefield is not a forcefield....it's more like an absorption field. This game kills you if you get hit once.

I was too late to catch the Ikaruga run posted in this topic originally - if anyone identifies it at any of the sites above, please let the rest of us know!
Many thanks.

I was the one that ripped and encoded the video originally. I am creating a torrent for it now on Filerush.com so look for it in a few minutes.
edit: Link (http://www.filerush.com/download.php?target=Ikaruga.rar)
Also those who already have it, if they can help seed it, that would help alot. If someone could change the original link I would appreciate it.

It's just a video, how can it be illegal? You're watching someone play a game for christ's sake.
As for the seed I'm having firewall problems and can't connect to my PC at home.

In other news though, any recommendations of some other great shooters? Old school, any system.
My personal favorite is Lifeforce, and I really liked Axelay alot as well.

I've downloaded it 3 times now from the bittorent link Edwin posted; each time it's finished the rar file has turned out to be corrupt:
rar t Ikaruga.rar
RAR 3.30 Copyright (c) 1993-2004 Eugene Roshal 22 Jan 2004
Shareware version Type RAR -? for help
Testing archive Ikaruga.rar
Testing Ikaruga.avi 99%
Ikaruga.avi - CRC failed
Total errors: 1
Anyone else have the same problem, and/or have a link to a good version of the file?

For those not impressed.. did you notice they always shoot enemies in sequences of 3 to get a better score? Ie. 3 white, 3 black, 3 white, 3 white, 3 white, etc... all the way through the game?
Insane.

Treasure released a DVD in Japan consisting of nothing but incredible playthroughs of Ikaruga. This could conceivably be ripped from that. But that DVD's been out of print for a couple of years so I won't tell if you don't.
