Gamecloud has posted a short interview (http://www.gamecloud.com/article.php?article_id=1372) with Electronic Arts' David Yee, talking about the expansion pack for their multiplayer tactical combat shooter, Battlefield 2: Special Forces.

On the plus side the MI-24 Hind is in (Gunship + Troop transport = death)

But as civ and knite said, they need to worry about fixing the core game first before going onto the exspansion. The server list keeps F'ing up on me... When I put "not full" as a filter option, I want to see servers THAT AREN'T FULL!!!! Then there is the fact nothing comes up when "No password" or "same version" are applied. I'm sure there are a ton of other things wrong with it.

I agree that they need to fix the game they have out but I'm pretty sure its already been stated that the teams that is creating the expansion and the team that made the game are not only different people but they are located in different countries?

So ya this is one of those times where making an expansion is not hurting the fixing of the game. Still I wouldn't think about buying an expansion till I'm happy with the core gameplay. The grappling hook and zip line sound pretty neat, haven't heard about them before.

"not full" also means you will get servers that have 49/50 players in them. By the time you try and join the server, it could be full. The good servers are always filling up quickly.

Deploying of the zip line looks funny. You shoot a crossbow to your destination then all of a sudden a frame appears near you with the zip line for you to travel down.

I wonder if you can shoot the crossbow at someone,kill them then ride the zip line down to their corpse :D

David Yee - Right now the game is alpha, which means all of the features have been implemented. We are now doing as much bug fixing and polishing as we can before the game is scheduled to go gold.

As for patching the game, it worked great out of the box for me, but after the last patch I can't get a server list anymore... such is progress.

It should be beta, alpha is when the devs are supposed to still be adding features, beta is the bug-fixing and tweaking phase.

Which is exactly the problem with Battlefield 2. Even though it wasnt finished when gold time comes devlopment halts, no matter the games REAL condition.

Couldn't have said it better. EA is the pinnacle of corporate greed fueled by stupid gamers like myself that can't say no to buying poorly finished games.

Well I've had enough and I draw the line at BF2 with EA. No expansion for me until the current game is fixed and the expansion is patched or released with very few bugs (nothing is bug free I understand).

In a perfect world, yes, but each company has its own idea of what constitutes alpha, beta, and even gold.

I can understand having your own internal devlopment cycle, but when a game ships and they expect me to buy it thats a little diffrent.

I didn't say it wasn't wrong, I just said that's how it was... it seems clear that many companies consider Gold something entirely different than Finished.

Agreed. This is why I will not buy the expansion. Complete disregard for whats there right now. I strangely feel alone when expressing this, but BF2 is largely unbalanced and has many issues that need to be fixed, and adding new weapons and equipment without fixing the original is not appealing at all to me.

If you hit a helicopter with a tank cannon it should die. If you hit it with two anti-tank missiles it should also die. Bugs the hell out of me. Those things are way too hard to kill for how dangerous they are. Oh yeah, and needing to wait till the end of the next 40+ minute round in order to actually get the medals I earn is amazingly lame. It actually discourages me from playing because I know if I pop on for just one round I won’t get anything for it. Correct me if I’m wrong but that’s been my experience.

Having said that the additions that David Yee is talking about sound really cool.
