Didn't see this one coming, despite knowing its EA in question here :

Criterion is bringing its hit arcade racer, Burnout Paradise, to PC.
The developer says that the new version is being "rebuilt specifically for the PC". Although it didn't specify exactly what changes would be made, it promises "expanded multiplayer, enhanced online features, and community driven content".

Burnout Paradise "will combine all the open world racing, intense speed and action of the original game with new gameplay for the PC version," says Criterion.

Can you imagine how awesome this can become with user-made mods/content?

Yeah well, Criterion doesn't exactly have a history of making PC games, is all I'm saying. We'll see how good they are with this port job.

Give me robust online, decent interface/control support and sufficient modability and they'll get an A+.

Yeah using a beautiful DRM scheme with all their future games!

I wonder how long until there's a mod for a retry race option.

...because fuck, that should have been in the game anyway.

More games on the PC is always a good thing.

You saw it here first.

These are the first ever shots of a Burnout game running on the PC.

But to understand how awesome these shots are, you really need to see them in their native resolution!

What you can see, if you click through to our Flickr site , select "All Sizes" and then "Original" is 1920 x 2400 images taken straight from the game!

The PC allows us to experiment with a variety of multi-screen configurations, so we thought we'd try out a double-screen huge portrait image of the game.

See them here. (http://criteriongames.com/article.php?artID=198)

Nice. I need something to replace my played-out copy of FlatOut 2. This will do nicely. ;)

Better question: Will they actually open up the game enough to make it worthwhile?

Hopefully they let people run dedicated servers. Better netcode and dedicated servers would make the multiplayer racing much, much better.

it was actualy meant to be an homage to the ZP review... but shortly after posting I realized that the sentence might be wrong :(

It will probably support the xbox 360 controller, so all is well.

What do you guys want? They denied Tony Hawk and announced a Burnout title for PC. I've been telling you all they are headed in the right direction. It just takes some time considering their history.

I'm all over this!! Until next week when they announce it will use a newer, stricter, more-anal-bleeding-inducing SecuRom DRM. Then it will go firmly back on the boycott list along with a bunch more great games finally coming to PC.

Finally. Back in the day, I really wanted Burnout 3 for PC. The improved graphics alone would have been worth it.

I think Paradise is the lowest selling Burnout so maybe they are doing a PC to make up for some sales. I know they lost a sale with me because they took out crash mode and didn't have a retry option. My game was pre-paid for until I found that out.

You're missing out on a great game. Showtime mode is a lot of fun, not really a replacement for Crash, but w/e, and the whole "Retry" race complaint I just don't get. There are so many events the only time it would be a problem is when you're down to the last few and trying to get your Burnout Elite license, or the Burning Routes. For most of the game if you fail an event you can just go to the next streetlight and start the next one.

That and they're supporting Burnout pretty darn well. They're adding new multiplayer modes and challenges and additional Cars in June, Bikes and a Night time mode in August, Islands in Fall and at they're adding planes. It's insane how much they're adding.

I didn't miss out, I rented it. But to Criterion, it was the difference between me buying it or not. I had it pre-paid then canceled my order after the demo came out.

Crash mode is my all time favorite Burnout mode. So removing that was pretty much instant death for my sale and what's not to understand about the retry mode? You drive all the way across the city and you fail which means you have to drive all the way back to start again. I don't want to do another race, I want to finish and complete the race I was just doing and in order to do that, I have to drive ALL the way back to the starting point.

This rocks. I ditched Live (I refuse to pay for console P2P multiplayer when dedicated servers are free on PC versions), and therefore any game that I have any interest in playing in MP I get for the PC by default.

EA, you have my dollars.
