Shacknews (http://www.shacknews.com/) has posted their hands-on preview (http://www.shacknews.com/extras/2005/090205_ultimatespiderman_1.x) of Treyarch's Ultimate Spider-Man for your viewing pleasure. The preview includes a look at the Nintendo DS version of the game. The title is being developed for the DS, GBA, PC, PS2 and Xbox platforms and is slated to ship to U.S. retailers at the end of September 2005.

I am really looking forward to this game. The previous Treyarch Spideman game was awesome.

Is this just a cartooned-version of the last game or is there something new?

Read the preview. It is a new story. And you can play as Venom.

And apparently Silver Sable is in it.

Though I wonder how many people are still familiar with her.

If they kept the swinging of Spiderman 2 intact, and added in some decent combat, I'm there. Who cares if it's cell shaded, if they took the 'if it ain't broke' aproach here, it could be truly fantastic.

I just wonder about how much of the free-roaming aspect they removed.

I bought a huge graphic novel containing every issue up till the end of the venom arc, and it was pretty good. I have high hopes for this game.
And about the free-roaming (this was taken from the ebgames.com description)
"Deepest Spider-Man game ever. Expanded free-roaming environment including the addition of Queens."

There is a limited edition version of the game for the PS2 it has some cool features from the looks of it, like an interview with Stan Lee to a Special Edition Ultimate Spider-Man comic.

I was going to ask where the Gamecube love was, but then I read the article which said there's a GCN version, so I am happy now. Oh, if you see this D_Reaper, what was the name of that graphic novel? I'd be interested in purchasing a copy.

As someone who recently got back into comics (Ultimate Spidey & Ultimate X-men) I can say how pleased I am with these two books. Bendis is doing an excellent job with the Spidey storylines and I am extremely excited about his work on this game. I'm preparing for the best comic book video game to date, which is certainly possible from the looks of things. Let's just hope they spruced up those random mission encounters from Spider-Man 2.

The gameplay of spiderman was great, but the missions and storyline was absolutely terrible, the boss battles were just manufactured poop as well. But if they can improve any of those aspects at all, I will definetly get it.

GreenNinja, there are several trade paperbacks for Ultimate Spider-man and they still do a monthly comic for it as well.

i don't think this game has the web-to-building swinging thing spiderman 2 had. Which sucks. I loved just zipping through manhattan, and I don't really buy spidey attaching his webs to air

But this trade hardcover has the first six paperbacks. As well as the extra stuff from the first 3 hardcovers like concept art and interviews, I'm not sure if the paperbacks have those, do they?(<that sentence didn't come out the right way and was meant to be a serious question) Needless to say I am kinda hooked on it, I need to get a job so I can buy more graphic novels/back issues to catch up with everyone else.

GreenNinja I sent you a message containing information on it as well as a link.

Oh ok, I didn't realise they had a large collection.

I also need to catch up on Ultimate Spidey. I started reading at the Carnage storyline (issue 60 I believe) and have read every one since.

Uh? Read any of the previews; the free-roaming web slinging is intact, including the restriction that your webs attach to buildings and not thin air.

This is the style they really, really need to do the Marvel MMORPG in, only Vevendi NEEDS to get Blizzard to do it.
