Shacknews has posted a short video (http://www.fileshack.com/file.x?fid=7591) from the upcoming Source engine title, Dark Messiah of Might & Magic.

Cliched story, nice action. It looks like the swords are physically simulated - anyone else think this may just offer, at last, a real swordfight in a game? Even if it's only optional.
And I'd reccommend watching the other DM video. Not to see Gabe spill a load of PR rubbish, but to see a bit of slapstick. ;)

This just looks interesting to me. I don't know exactly why, but I can already see myself buying this game.

There's nothing wrong with a "cliche" storyline. I think media that tries to provide a lame "twist" on a well worn archetype is far less enticing than a well done derivative work.
Hence why Dark Cloud for PS2 is a big pile of suck, and Zelda 64 for the N64 is concidered one of the best games of all time by many.

But then Dark Cloud 2 rocks.

I'm am very interested in this game for two main reasons. One as said above for the possibility of a real sword fight. And two for the possibility of finally having something approading a creative magic system in a game. No more throw iceball level 3, followed throw iceball level 4... but perhaps something interesting like put ice on this surface to make it slippery, or put fire on that surface to set a trap etc..

I'll agree with you all the way up to the crazy-golf game. That failed to rock. ;)

I can't agree with this sentiment more. As much as I love classic RPGs, I have always wished more could be done with the environment. In a world with magic there is so much more that can be done than hurting/immobilizing an opponent.

I think what I like about what I've seen is the art. It seems more thought out than most recent fantasy games. The animation needs some work though.
