Microsoft has hooked up with our sister site Co-Optimus to begin a monthly Co-Op gaming night on Xbox Live (http://www.xbox.com/en-US/community/calendar/coopgamenight/default.htm).
Xbox and Co-Optimus.com are teaming up to bring you Co-op Game Night. Once a month, we'll pick a particular night and a different game for you to team up with your friends and play in co-op mode. Every month we'll feature a special night for sneaking through villages as ninjas, racing through the streets in supercars, and stomping alien baddies as space marines with your friends.

Co-Optimus (http://www.co-optimus.com/) is a site dedicated entirely to co-op gaming, pertaining not only to events such as these but to news regarding all kinds of co-op games across all platforms. Get the latest news about the co-op features of your favorite co-op enabled games! The first game on the agenda is Halo 3 on May 15th.

Of course it's Halo3.

Hopefully eventually we'll have our members vote on the next month's game. We actually have to pick it out pretty far in advance because it's going to end up on the Community Calendar which gets printed in OXM.

I noticed that that the Halo 3 (http://www.co-optimus.com/game.php?id=2) page there has an error- it indicates Halo 3 does not support LAN play, when it does.

Same error with Crackdown- you can play that on a LAN, too.

Very cool. Halo 3 coop was one of the most fun experiences in a while. If it wasn't for the bit of lag with 4 players, I'd say almost perfect.

Oooh, thanks. Good catch. We actually added the LAN info after we had a bunch in our database, so some got missed.

Congrats Bap, this is really exciting for your new site!

I don't really get it. Is this just advertising for your site? There doesn't actually seem to be anything to this other than an announcement. Don't people play coop games online every day? Is there anything that sets this apart from any other day? Anyways, congrats, should drive some traffic to your site.

Obviously you do not know what Bap did and does for this site. He is proud his site is taking off and if he wants to proclaim it as news, then believe me, it is worthy. Anyways, Congrats Bap.....

So how close are we to Microsoft taking over Evil Avatar? :p

There's always one of those jerks, isn't there? "How is this news LoLz?"

We should try to get multiplayer events going on platforms other than the 360. congrats regardless Bap.

In a way, yeah it is. But what it really means is that we now have a major player in the industry that recognizes the popularity of co-op games - so much so that there is a dedicated night just for co-op on their 11 million member online service.

We are still working out some of the details - but some of previous game nights for other things (Calendar (http://www.xbox.com/en-US/community/calendar/?WT.svl=nav)) have yielded contests and prizes.

Not only that it helps build community.

Of course people play co-op all the time - but there are actually a lot of people out there that don't know what that is, or might not have tried it. Or maybe they are looking for people to co-op with. That's what something like this is trying to do - move things in that direction.

Oh I agree, and we will. Doing the coding for this thing, I've kept in mind that we'll eventually migrate it to other platforms. Hopefully we'll just rotate weeks, where 1 night a week there will be a game on each platform to use.

Pile on! Anyway, much like Evil and fitbabits recently doing Opinion pieces as a news thread (and getting the same reaction), this is news simply because it is Evil Avatar related.

Both Co-Optimus and Immortal Machines are considered sister sites to Evil Avatar and important news from either website has a good chance of being put onto the news page. Reds, as a special "power", have every right to post an opinion article on the front page if they so wish. Every time we'll get the, "is this really front page news" line, but that is the cycle :D

For what it's worth, I don't think carneconcarne was questioning whether the post was newsworthy or not. I think he just wanted to know (as did I, until bap explained how their could be contests and stuff) how a co-op night was going to be different form any other night on XBL.

This is exactly what the gaming community needs. Well played.

I would've guessed Halo as well. This is a win-win for everyone. Good job to all involved.

I'll be honest and say I don't tend to go on any of the sister sites but having recently "discovered" co-optimus it seems to pick up some news that doesn't get reported here. Congratulations all around!
