Gamespot has a great feature online (http://www.gamespot.com/features/6132028/) talking about some of the more notorious cancelled titles including Fallout 3, Ultima X, True Fantasy Live Online and Shenmue III.

Here's the only reasonable conclusion: If you're a Shenmue fan, it looks like your lot in life is suffering. Don't let the quarterly Internet rumor flare-ups fool you. You'll never get cozy with Nozomi; you'll never defeat Lan Di; and you'll definitely never find out what in the hell all those ancient mirrors were for. However since fans love the game so much and since no information has been made official about its existence or not, go ahead and hold on to a little hope.

Isn't True Fantasy now being developed as a PC/PS2 title?

They should mention Duke Nukem Forever too.

Where is the fucking Sam and Max 2?

Any Ultima title that doesn't have Richard Garriot at the helm isn't really an Ultima title. It is an EA cash cow in disguise. Unless I'm wrong about RG not being at the helm.

Where is the fucking Sam and Max 2?

Exactly my thoughts. Screw Shenmue, I want more senseless animal violence.

After the Ultima IX disaster, I was kinda relieved Ultima X was cancelled.

Where's Mother 3? Probably too "old hat" (in cancelled game lore) and possibly in development ala Shenmue III..

Ultima X looked fairly good, except for the name. I think it owuld have been cool if it was converted into a single player game and called Penultima.

It doesn't seem to really get cancelled... it just perpetually changes platforms.

All of the great Lucasart updates like Full Throttle and Sam and Max had their updates cancelled. I remember reading a magazine and the editor asked why the two games were cancelled. Lucasarts said, "We didn't want to dissapoint the fans." Too late for that asswipes. But they can make mediocre Star Wars games, as not to "dissapoint" the fans.

Shenmue and TFL was tough losses too.

what about stars: supernova genesis!? that was never even signed up, so i don't suppose it was really cancelled, either.

the travesty was the pile of electronic effluent that was released under the title 'master of orion 3' destroying my faith in both the master of orion series, and the ability of publishers to make a sane decision between what is a great looking game and should be published and 'hmm, master of orion was successful...' <homer>'ooo, lots of money!'</homer> :(

I dont see them mentioning resident evil 4 (early version) and resident evil 1.5

Also there was a first version of half life that was cancelled
All this article has to offer are crappy games nobody even cares about (for the most part...not all !)

Mechwarrior V. Stupid *** and their predilection for flashy airhead games like Mechassault.

I cried myself to sleep when True Fantasy Online was cancelled. That game looked fun.

Was anybody actually "heartbroken" by those? The final version of RE4 that actually got released is probably ten million billion times better than the original version would've turned out.

Fallout 3 isn't cancelled. It's a Bethesda project (I thought...)

Black Isle's Fallout 3 is stone cold canceled. Bethesda's Fallout is their own take on the fallout world. It won't be too different, otherwise why pay a mil for the rights?

Or what about all the games that got canned when Cavedog went under way back when, like Amen: The Awakening and Elysium. Plus the never announced but assured to come Total Annihilation 2.

I am so glad I never got into Shenmue. Make a giant game with a cliff-hanger... only for its sequel to have a cliff-hanger? Yeesh, if I cared I would be insane and probably writing some horrible fanfic right now. This is why I refuse to read current series like the Wheel of Time for fear the author might die or something.

You know, at one time what is now know as Devil May Cry was going to be RE4 on the PS2 way back when. Capcom decided the game developed its own flavor and out came DMC. And now we have RE4 as it really is. Both games kick ass, so I'm not complaining.

And yes I was bummed to see TFL and the Shenmue games (both III and Online versions were canned) go dead.
