Gamedaily (http://www.gamedaily.com/xbox360/article/?id=9220&CMP=AFL-RSS) has the press release from Infineon technologies. Infineon will be supplying 3 different chips for their XBox 360.The company will supply "a removable solid-state memory unit product, a single-chip application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) wireless game-pad controller that makes cables unnecessary for game play, and an advanced security chip." The various devices are expected to be available late in 2005. Financial terms of the design collaboration and supply agreement between Infineon and Microsoft were not disclosed.
Infineon memory chips have always been regarded as top quality. It's good to see console manufacturers going with quality components.

Infineon has always been regarded as high quality? Not on this planet, I hope. The cheapest most P.O.S. memory on the planet uses their chips and they fail regularly. Take it from a tech who's had bad experiences using their crap for many years. :P I suspect this is just a ploy to make the console cheaper... because they make VERY CHEAP chips (and very CHEAP chips too, if you know what I mean).

What I find most interesting:
and an advanced security chip."
Just because the OS X on x86 developer boxes are also using an Infineon TPM chip. Makes me wonder who else is in that market.

Interesting, in my circle of tech friends (myself include) Infineon chips have always been high quality. I know Mushkin ram uses their chips.

That's always been my impression as well, and my family runs a local computer shop. The TPM deal just caught my eye first.

That was my first reaction as well, because I thought it said "Infinium", whom are the ones behind the Phantom. A second glance showed it to be "Infineon", and I breathed a sigh of relief.

Agreed. I've had nothing but problems with Infineon memory in the past; however, I don't give a shit what company's chips are in the Xbox400 as long as it works (and work longer than the god damn warranty lasts). And of course Infineon chips were chosen to make the console cheaper, Microsoft is already losing money on the console, so I doubt they'd be nice and throw in some decent pricey hardware.

I'm so inebriated that I cannot see three feet in front of me. Between the moon and you, lunacy is setting in.

Meh, different techs different strokes.
I know some people who prefer Western Digitals(me included), but I have friends who call them shitty always dying hard drives. They prefer Maxtor or Seagates, and I've had issues with those two. Sometimes things like this can't be hard facts.

Well I actually agree with you...
And to those who said that Infineon makes good memory... there may be various levels of quality of their ram. I know Mushkin is *great* ram (usually). I have had several of their chips fail (and they had Infineon chips) even in spite of their excellent reputation and speed.

I suppose the memory card concession for the 360 will be a little more profitable than the last Xbox.
