Gamecloud (http://www.gamecloud.com/article.php?article_id=1298) is reporting that the company of Interplay still exists. The problem is, they may not exist much longer.Interplay has popped out of its financial bunny hole a couple of times since then, once to announce the sale of rights to two Fallout sequels to Bethesda Softworks and again to announced that they would publish the upcoming RTS massively multiplayer game Ballerium from developer Majorem, an agreement which was broken just a few months later. In their latest SEC report Interplay admits they have a deficit of $17 million and cash reserves of only .$ 03 million. Yep, that means only $30,000. In addition they still have a number of tax penalites from federal, state and county groups due to unpaid employees and are in default in payment of their lease to their former landlord. They also admit to not having any games in development.

or to put it in laymans terms, they're "royally F&*KED" ?

shame to see a relatively big player in this amount of trouble. Soon developers will stop investing over the odds amounts into games and go back to their roots.

$17 million deficit, relatively flat broke, and no games in developement? Is there even a small chance they can get out of that aside from someone buying the companies name?

And I'll have the version of Fallout which never saw the light of day.

And this is exactly the reason why you see more and more shitty licensed games or sequels.

If they're posting here, probably a healthy smattering of niche titles. I think the more approriate question is: "What does the general gamer spend their cash on?"

I wouldn't say "Interplay Lives" so much as I would say "Interplay slowly festers and breeds a host of vile insects within its mouldering carcass". I mean, wow, I don't see any possible way Interplay could survive this.

The only thing I could see possibly happening after all of this would be Interplay going belly up, and later being resurrected under completely different management as a hollow doppleganger of its former self, akin to Atari. God, I really hope someone capable continues the Fallout franchise, otherwise I pray it just dies here and spares us anything else like Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel.

Did I hear correctly that Bethesda has the Fallout rights these days? Does that mean they have the materials for Fallout 3, or are they just holding onto the license for possible future use?

Bethesda has announced they are working on fallout 3, but there have been almost no details, except it isn't based on the work Interplay had already done.

This really hurts me, honestly. To watch a studio like that just flounder and die a slow and painful death.

Hmm, given the screenshots of the Fallout 3 3d engine, I think that's actually a good thing that they're starting scratch. As long as the story doesn't blow.

So basically Interplay has become the Terri Schiavo of game publishers? I say they pull the plug.
