Despite some early (large) issues, the MGO beta has been up and running since Friday. Today on the PlayStation Blog (http://blog.us.playstation.com/2008/04/28/metal-gear-mondays-new-mgo-beta-content/) we get some info from Konami's Brandon Laurino on some of the features that have been added since then.
We have included one new map Midtown Maelstrom.

This is a part of the Middle East stage in MGS4. This consists of some main streets and alternate routes. Numerous alleys are in between buildings, and are dark, narrow, and very confusing.

Next, we have released a new gametype rule, Sneaking Mission.

In this rule, there will be one character and two teams in the game. Snake, Red team, and Blue team. Snake’s mission is to collect a certain number of dog tags, by having other players stunned or held up. Red and Blue teams’ mission is to defeat Snake certain times or defeat more players in the opposing team. If more than 10 people are in the game, another player may play as Snake’s mini robotic sidekick Mk. II, to assist the Snake player. If you are playing as Snake, you have many of his incredible abilities available to you – such as the camouflage!
The sneaking game type actually sounds like fun. I'm going to need to actually get online and try that....

I think Splinter Cell probably had the best sneaking type of online gameplay but I'll give this a try tonight.

Yeah, that Sneaking mode was teased in this episode (http://mp.i-revo.jp/user.php/kp-ryan/entry/169.html) of the Kojima Productions Report (http://mp.i-revo.jp/user.php/kp-ryan/). And, it does sound pretty cool.

I heard that if you have a full team one guy gets to be the mark2. (The little robot shocking that guard.) Hopefully I'll get some time to play this beta soon while my copy of GTA is being shipped.

It's hard trying to shoot that little fucking thing, especially when it's cloaked. Fun mode though.

I'm in it...there's a way to do it online but I need to find the address that I believe Rogue_hunter gave to me last week in the EvAv Radio chat.

I haven't touched the PS3 since the update was taking so long. Have they fixed that part yet because it was really annoying after an hour only having 1% of the update downloaded.

The other way to get in is to reserve MGS4 I believe.

Any non-US residents having problems accessing the game? I have a key, downloaded the game and created a Konami account, but I still can't log in. It keeps giving me the same error every time.

I might have a way for you to get in. Let me know if you're interested.

I played a few rounds of the sneaking gametype yesterday and I won the match by shooting Snake in the face. It was good.

I've been trying to play the beta but it keeps dropping me from the game after about a minute. I have yet to actually complete an online match. Not sure what the problem is...

I believe it was Type 2 last I checked.

Odd. Maybe your ISP? I've only once had issues with recurring drops in network connection but that was just before the store update.

Haing played sneaking on the euro beta a couple of days back it doesn't work especially well.

It's effectively TDM with an invisible guy wandering around trying to win by himself. Base is the highlight if you ask me.

that was the error code when the servers in the US weren't up. the beta looks to be more of a US and Europe thing, with people from other regions trying to get in.
