It's been very quiet on the Xbox Flashpoint front of late. Codemasters has said very little about the game. But now the publisher has got all chatty about it again and revealed the game's new name, Operation Flashpoint: Elite, and details of the game.

Operation Flashpoint: Elite is set for release on Xbox in November and will come complete with 50 Xbox Live multiplayer missions and a mission editor. You can read more about the game and see the latest screenshots over at Boomtown (http://xbox.boomtown.net/en_uk/articles/art.view.php?id=9120).

The game will also be a wallet friendly £19.99.

If you have not played the original, buy this. It is a gaming masterpiece.

Never played OFP but i heard good reports of it on PC.

I fear this game won't be popular because when this is released people will be buying a 360 etc.

It should have had a facelift and released for the 360 in my opinion.

THE scariest game ever made!

You're skirting a tree line, heading for a group of houses, keeping low, keeping behind any cover you can.. then you turn around and your team is dead and then so are you.

But other missions such as laying explosives for tanks, and piloting choppers were great!

would the real ghost recon please stand up?
;), come on this game is like the ultrarealistic version of GR1.

LOL. Reminds me of my transition towards the game. At the time I was highly into Quake3 Rocket Arena. Must different than Flashpoint. It took me a while to realize one man isn't an army and it only takes 1 bullet.

As you might be able to tell from the linked feature, Flashpoint is one of my favourite games. Codemasters must have sent me something like 3 beta-builds of the game back in my Telefragged days and I played all of them to death.

Hopefully it'll work really well on Xbox Live, GR2 is my current Live game and this could be a whole lot better.

Flashpoint is one of the few FPS wargames to make you think you're in a war, rather than a world revolving around the player.

OFP was great, the closest any game has come to being a soldier-simulator. I must say, if I were to play the campaign again I'd find the roadside bomb missions slightly unsettling given what's happened in the world since the original OFP came out. I remember the 'insurgent' style missions... the memory of jeeps and trucks running over satchel charges still gives me goosebumps. When I first saw an Al-Jazeera broadcast of an IED in Iraq, one of the first things I thought was 'Hey, Operation Flashpoint got it spot on'.

Anyone who wants to play flashpoint would be far better advised to wait a few months and get armed assault (AKA OFP1.5) for the PC: better graphics, controls and far less console gamers (read: cs-type) in multiplayer.
Oh: AND all the amazingly good fan created content, addons, missions and modifications for Operation Flashpoint, as well as any future releases.

And less console gamers.

A. This post made giggles come from my pants.
B. Flashpoint is far and away the best combat simulation of all time.
C. Re. "console players" - they will die instantly in Flashpoint. It is an extraordinarily unforgiving world to play in, and twitch gamers will just die. Team tactics are not just important, they are required if you want to survive. Kinda like real life.
D. Instant purchase.

console gamers are used to dying in great numbers and short times. Then they respawn or join another server (with the new join in progress) or demand that the mission be restarted so that they can try tripping a tank up with their face again. They are everything that is wrong with online gaming, and they are in such large numbers that their whines can change good games into shitty ones: see CS pre beta 5 (game and community wise)

Although I agree this is a problem, I've never been bothered by it as much as your posts seem to convey you have. Mostly those are the easy-kills at the beginning of the round that I don't even think about. It's the other 95% of the time I'm gaming where I'm playing with real players. Same for Xbox:CS and RS6 and so on - the noobs just get wasted right away along with the fools, and after that 10 seconds of cleanup you're back to the real game.

This is great news, but unfortunately I feel it's too late. I *LOVED* OFP, and was dying for the Xbox version to come out...like last year. I just wanted easier to use multiplayer, and have a more accessible game for my friends who get flustered binding more than 8 keys on a PC game.

However, since I'll be quite focused on Xbox360 (and playing a boat load of Oblivion likely), just not sure if I'd fire up the ol' Xbox. I don't even have a Live account anymore... hmm... that's a question: can you use the same Live account on both? If so, then yeah, maybe I'd get this since it's cheap.

I AM looking forward to Armed Assault though. I'll have to keep my eye on that.

I couldn't agree more.

It already looks like ass on the PC - low res textures, and low poly count. Xbox will definitely look no better than the PC version.

Too bad, great game - should have been revamped for the 360.

Initially they are not a problem, no. But after time, when their numbers increase, they complain and change games so that their brand of asshat playing (luck and bullshit) become more important.

In CS, you used to have to stop, crouch and aim to win a firefight. Then it became 'jump, spray bullets, sprint, spray bullets, and hope one of the bullets randomly lands in the enemies head when you were aiming 20 feet away.

Watch some CS movies if you doubt this. The shots are not aimed anymore, they are sprayed in the general direction.

Haahaha ! What a stupid cunt!
The newst mods for OFP look better than almost every other game out there. They poly count is huge .... because you can see 5 MILES, twat.
