While not literal deities, the lead designers for the upcoming god game, Black and White 2, have acheived at least demigod status in the field of game design for working on some of the most ground-breaking and popular games of all time. Peter Molyneux, the founder of Lionhead Studios (www.lionhead.com) brought gamers Sim Theme Park, Populous, and the original Black & White. However, he decided to share the throne of the almighty lead designer with Ron Millar, who is popular for his work on the genre-defining RTS games Warcraft and Starcraft.

Watch and listen to these avatars in a video (http://www.gamespot.com/pc/strategy/blackwhite2/media.html?gcst=blackwhite2_om_pc_082905.asx) describing how they worked together to get the best out of both of the genres in which they have expertise. Video is courtesy of Gamespot (www.gamespot.com).

This game is looking very good, and very PC intensive. Personally, I'm always wary of Lionhead. They make games of revolutionary scope, but while they always deliver a good product, I've been disappointed in the past when I've expected an amazing product. Don't give me pizza when I'm expecting prime rib!

Whenever I watch movies of this game my fingernails itch.

Damn you Peter Molyneux!

I am seriously in an abusive relationship here. I'm going back again for B&W 2 - so if you see me on here with a black eye after release, it's cos I fell down the stairs again okay?

There is something sinister about Peter Molyneux, i had little/no interest in B&W2 after the first one promised so much and didn't really deliver, but after watching those interviews... I now want this game :/

I remember someone trying to trade in B&W and the guy behind the counter saying, "you may as well keep it, since we won't give you any money for it."

Peter Mollynew reminds me of the guys who were on my university course, they're full of "great" ideas and no matter how bad the game sounds.. it'll still score 9's out of 10's in reviews.

He's not getting my money this time! </rant>

You took the words out of my mouth. I also enjoyed where they saved the "pull out" shot for last.

I know I'm being a huge grammer prick here, but "avatar" is generally used for an actor which represents another actor, or a form which an actor uses, a puppet controlled by a larger being or idea. Characters in games are your "avatar" because they're you, but not you. It's the form which represents and facilitates your actions in the game world. Avatars aren't usually the person themselves. Yeah, I know, I'm a grammer nerd.

There's been a series of games where the player represented a God or something, the character he played was referred to as "The Avatar", which made it a noun in that context.

My guess is that that's where it came from.

Oh and that would be a Grammar nerd, not a Grammer nerd. :)
(Sorry, couldn't resist)

Well, first I don't think that grammer is the right word to describe correcting someone's vocabulary. Second: http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=Avatar

This is a correct definition of the term and I was aware of this at the time of the writing.

I used the term in it's more religious meaning. . . sort of the mortal representation of a God. Like Jesus, or Fizban (Dragonlance reference). Kind of expected the audience to fill in the information by the context. I'm comparing 2 designers of a god-game to gods throughoout the piece. Were there a lot of you who didn't make the connection?

I like to use exposition to be concise, but it can sometimes lead to people not understanding. It is often a balancing act between providing interest to those with high reading comprehension and remaining intelligible to those with lesser skill. Do you think I should lean closer to the lower reading comprehension crowd?

Was it me or when the guys died in battle it looked like their souls went into the air and joined you. That sounds pretty cool, if they could incorporate that into the game.

Yeah well, no matter how much people like to bash Peter. Its a fact, hes one of the most successful _individuals_ in the industry. Every game he develops tries to push at least one boundary. He tries something new, an for that he has my respect. B&W2 may be a sequel, but it'll be twice the game the original was.

Yet your all prolly the type that bitch and complain everytime you see a new game based on a sequel or license.

gah

gah

And yet, no one is doing that. . .

Btw, a lot of posters seem to really like Peter Molyneux's work and are excited for this upcoming game.

I'm wary of B&W 2, but I'm whole-hog chomping-at-the-bit ready for "The Movies".
