Spong is reporting (http://news.spong.com/detail/news.asp?prid=9080) that the full details of Nintendo's Revolution will be revealed at the Tokyo Game Show during Iwata's keynote speech on September 16th.

The Revolution presentation will include an explicit outline of the hardware and its controller and input mechanic, as well as illustrate exactly how it will work. It will go on to show games running on the system and how they make use of the technology.

Mario 128, or ‘New Mario’ as it is dubbed internally at Nintendo, is expected to be the star of the show.
With all this talk about the "Revolution" being force feedback (http://www.ferrago.com/story/6387), it will be nice to finally know what the Revolution truly is.

Yeah, I was wondering about that. :) Spong is often hilarious, but also very often wrong. As stated though, most people are expecting N to drop a decent amount of info at the TGS. It would follow with the strategy they employed in the early days of touting the power of the Cube.

This was on GameSpot in their Bogus/Not Bogus article last week. They said it might be true, but we'll have to wait and see.

I tried to fine someone else claiming this but besides the rumor control column this was the most detailed article about the TGS.

Since it is from Spong whether it's valid or not is up in the air, but the fanboy anticipation in me really hope it's true.

Well, I'm not gonna hold my breath, but it will be nice to see what Nintendo has cookin'.

I won't make any decisions until I have my hands on the controller and try it for myself though. When I first saw the GameCube controller, I laughed my ass off. The moment I held it, I completely changed my tune. The design was so ergonomically correct and responsive, it won me over instantly. Perhaps they can do the same with the Revolution. We'll see.

I sincerely doubt that Nintendo will release any good information on the system itself before its release: they got their butts handed to them with the N64 because of that. My guess is it may simply be a tech makeup without the controller/revolutionary featuer in it, ala their E3 presentation, or it may be a list of potential release-date games. We'll have to see.

I'd always figured that the cartridge issue is what did them in. The PS1 had all these pretty FMVs that just weren't possible on the N64. And pretty cut scenes sell systems.

TGS would be a great time to reveal some details, especially if they can put out an estimated MSRP, and one that is significantly lower than the arm and leg that MS will be demanding.

Don't phail me Nintendo... You're my only hope for console gaming this generation.

I do remember hearing some Nintendo people saying at E3 that they were planning on revealing everything later this year. Hopefully it's true, because the long I have to wait the more I bleed from my ears.

Oh and it's also a bit interesting to note that Penny Arcade's monday comic was created at a panel this last Saturday. The comic in question was about the Nintendo Revolution, those two must feel as though they have psychic powers now.

Our big millionaires at Nintendo should maybe have a chat with Peter Molyneux about giving people unrealistic expectations, and how it can hurt a product.

You've got a nice little point there, but you would also do well to direct a few thoughts towards people such as Will Wright, who actually tend to come through with their grand promises.

Just food for thought.

Except for the fact Nintendo has be pretty silent about it. So any unrealistic expectations are really the result of fan boys, crap journalism or just typical EA forum bitchery.

It would be reasonable that Nintendo shows their new controller before the first next-gen console hits the market, so I believe it is true that they are going to reveal the Revolution's features next month in the Tokio Game Show.

I really could not care less at this point. I've all but lost any interest in the Revolution. Nintendo had their chance (and have had their chance for a while now), but they've blown it by seemingly not knowing what they want to do for the next generation of consoles. They've been throwing stuff at the press/public to see what sticks. Right now, not a lot is sticking.

Even if Nintendo revealed that the Revolution was a brain implant pre-loaded with every Nintendo game ever released and that all you had to do to play them was buy credits at the Nintendo website. Then, after plying them with cash, someone dressed as Mario, Link, Donkey Kong, Shigeru Miyamato, etc. (your choice) would visit your home and bring you a Game Cube, N64, SNES, NES plus the game(s) of your choice for the previously purchased amount of time so that you could play some retro games the way they were always meant to be played.

Oh, and the brain implant? Just a gimmick! Like the Virtual Boy.

I was going to submit this on Saturday. However, spong was the ONLY site I saw with it at the time...and spong wasn't to forthcoming with its source.

Actually hype didn't hurt Fable, it sold over a million copies and was the only non-sequel, non-licensed game in the top 50 last year... anyway I'll guess the new controller will be the most underwhelming overhyped device since "Ginger".

The controller could be awesome! Look at it this way. When I first saw the DS, I was like, "What the fuck is Nintendo thinking." Now that I've owned one for almost a year, I have to say that it's quite an enjoyable device.

You know, you and I are in the same boat. On more than one occasion I have openly laughed at and mocked Nintendo only to have to eat crow when I actually get my paws on their systems. I've eaten crow enough. I'll wait until I actually TRY the Revolution before I discount it.

True. Not embracing a higher storage medium hurt them in the long run but it could be argued that it also led to the use of in engine cut scenes.

Of course it will be! It won't stand a chance against a word starting with the letter 'X'.

Xtreme...sheesh! 8-/

I am encouraged by Nintendo's talk of the 'interface'. There's plenty of room for interface improvements. I find it promising that Miyamoto seems more excited by what he can do with the interface than the technology that comprises it.

You know, we're a niche group here. For some godawful reason, I ended up watching saturday morning TV this weekend. You know what I saw? 8 billion nintendo commercials. They're still hitting the core nintendo group, and they've got the sales to prove it.

It was effin nintendogs every time the commercials came up, and not just that, they were selling it as as "cool".

I think the proper question to ask here is - Are you okay? Saturday morning TV truly is minging and it's no wonder kids these days are so bloody hyper.

That's the point: Those kids are all hyper-actively demanding Nintendogs from their parents.

A lot of gamers perceive it as such, too. I know hardcore FPS and MMO guys who ran out to buy DSes and just spent most of the week sitting around playing Nintendogs. This must be one hell of a puppy sim.
