Age of Conan open beta now open

I hate these paid subscription sites. I never could figure out why people would want to pay for news and demos that are free everywhere else but I guess the random free betas are why.

Are they ever going to do a real open beta or is this gonna be it?

Doesn't really bother me. I decided a long time ago that I don't like playing in open betas... It feels too much like a demo. Most of the time I don't mind demos, but with MMOs it's a demo that lasts a lot of hours. That's a lot of hours that I have to do over again once the game releases.

I'm content to wait for release on this one.

Sorry bout that. Because of an aspect of my job the word subscriber implies paid, otherwise they're just a user. But yes, it is paid accounts only.

like i said in another thread all fileplanets stuff up till now hasn't be very clear on this in fact they've given the impression that it was going to be open to all users on the site... i really should have known better. How anything can be an "open" beta be open when it closed to 99% of the people who might be interested in the game i have no idea

BTW - if you are on comcast - alledgedly you can login in to fileplanet/ign founders club and then use this user id to sign up for the beta. Unfortunately being at work I can't get you the link.

You are not guaranteed a beta key even if you are a subscriber. It's just a requirement to get a chance of getting one. They do not post the time of day when the keys are being released and, if yesterday is any indication, the keys are all gone in a matter of minutes.

So have fun refreshing the screen all day. Tis ridiculous.

I'm very glad I went immediately when I saw my gmail notifier pop up with the message from fileplanet. had no issues at all and had a key instantly. Already installed and ready to go. I didn't realize I couldn't get on until May 1st though :P

I have been in the beta for about a year now, and to be honest it hasn't really sucked me in.


It's not bad so don't take my response as saying it is bad or something, cause it isn't. It has some neat concepts and the combat is more engaging then most mmos. I can't give a recomandation on ya or nay though. It is just something I would tell someone to give it a try for themselves to see if they like it.

Bug wise it has been done up fairly well so that is not the issue, mabey it is just because I am looking forward to warhammer online, I'm a big fan of the univers.

In the end it just didn't do anything to suck me in but at the same time do anything to make me tell myself that I hate this game.

Sorry Disgustipated, even you shiny new red status cannot sway me on this one. I only got two, and if I hadn't given the spare to my MMO junkie fiance, the EvAv lurking Mrs Squid, I would have been made a very unhappy Squidy. :(

should be noted that the downloading is near impsoable i was kicked off after half a gig for some reason and i've been stuck at the back of the line for most of today... if it carrys on like that there's no way i'll be able to finish downloading it before the open beta is closed... yay!

ya seems i got in on the last batch of keys, i think if you have a key the beta is on untill the 11th but file planet are not giving out any more keys at this point

what torrent you useing deadend? i've only found rubbish non seeded ones

Funcom failed by having it via fileplanet only. As a 7 day open period INCLUDING DOWNLOADING 12 GIGS from the worst site around is horrible.

I have a horrible feeling the full game will suck just based on their cluster fuck of an open beta.

Yeah I'm not too hopeful for the launch product anymore.
I think that like Anarchy Online, they will improve it significantly over time, but at first I anticipate another disaster.

I'm probably going to wait for the early reviews before making a decision to buy or not. If the early reviews are bad then it can wait. I'm actually quite enjoying the freedom that not playing an MMO has given me.

Well, the game was fairly fun and ran ok... except it would pause for several seconds and then be back at 30+ fps.

combat system is a bit different, I think it's more fun than auto attack, but god, you could destroy a keyboard button mashing.
