Another racing game that was primarily about cars is now adding those motor vehicles of the two wheeled flavor. From Criterion's site (http://criteriongames.com/article.php?artID=145):
This is the biggest news in Burnout history!

For the first time, we'll let you loose in a Burnout game on motorbikes!

And because we're dedicated to bringing you game-changing new Burnout Paradise content all year, bikes will feature their own game modes, challenges and even some new locations tailored to fit their unique performance and handing characteristics.

The other big news relating to bikes is that we've introduced night-time to Burnout Paradise for the first time.

We wanted to clear the traffic out a little to give you the chance to learn how to ride in safety, and we've always wanted to cruise the streets of Paradise City with incredible night-time visuals.

We expect to ship bikes as part of our Davis software update, due for release sometime in August.
Now that could be interesting.

I think the implementation of bikes will work better in Burnout than they did in PGR4.

I just hope there is ragdoll physics for bike riders. That night-time mode looks nice as well.

I hope Criterion can deliver on this. It would be so awesome if they could.

Really? REALLY? I don't even know what to think.

Ed: I now realize that this is DLC for Paradise, a game that I do not own. I thought this would be a whole new game that I also wouldn't buy.

Bikes, huh?

Eh, I'm willing to give it a shot - why not? Although I still think it'll be driver-less bikes though, odd as it looks.

Congrats to Criterion though for continuing to support their game with all the new stuff they are adding.

EA + Bikes?
Hopefully, this is Criterion auditioning for a new Road Rash title.

They almost have me willing to buy this game for my PS3. Almost...I've resisted so far, but the support they are giving the game is pretty nice.

I might have to pick up B:P just so I can ride bikes. Never was really interested before...now i'm intrigued...this could be just the end of the semester euphoria speaking too...

The F1's have helmets, so presumably it won't be phantom riderless bikes. I just found a good way to stream my music off my mac into Burnout, so this is even more welcome news.

Ok, so bike riders are ok, but having someone actually drive the cars in the game is a no-no?

I hope they model the mutilation of the riders as well as they model crashes.

That's what I'm talking about. I've seen some real life bike crashes, and it ain't pretty. I wanna see people getting cut in half and mutilated beyond recognition. Though then they'd have to change the rating to AO, but hey.....it could work.

I would be happy never to see crash mode again. I never liked having a puzzle game interjected into my racing.

I would totally love this. Mostly for the crashes. Yes, I said it.

Hmmm. I for one miss the abundance of traffic. So, telling me there will be less at night doesn't say a whole lot.

My only issue with this is that most most motorcycle accidents are fatal. Seriously when you get a motorcycles license your have a six month life expectancy.

xoanon

As if any of the crashes I've had in Paradise so far wouldn't be fatal. Motorcycles are more dangerous than cars, sure, but drive in real life like you do in video games and you're pretty much doomed.

theres still some crash mode, i found it in one challenge.

im sorta curious if that means when youre in a car, if there will be bikes speeding around, which again will provide some fantastic crashes (mostly on the bikes part i would hope, especially vs SUV's and so on), but same goes when you're on a bike.. i'd hope there is still all the regular vehicle traffic for me to smash in to.

one other paradigm this will break is that you will actually SEE a driver! It always irritates me to no end when there is no driver in a vehicle.

Dirt had a fantastic opportunity to be chucking drivers out the windshield and so on.. but they didnt. In burnout i wanna see the evolution of what microsoft did with motorcross madness.. i want separate bike / rider physics so i can crash into something and send my dude hurling through the air and smashing into something and curling up into the fetal position :)

I'm wondering if, even without blood, ragdoll crashes like that would necessitate a change in the game's rating. What was the rating for Flatout?

Edit: both 1 and 2 were Teen. Yeah, bring on the rag doll drivers I say.

Fast bikes and ragdoll physic drivers have already been done by a little game called Midnight Club 3. You might wanna look it up.

Four if you count Eastwood, which will add more real estate. There are videos on Criterion's site (http://criteriongames.com/comingsoon/eastwood.php).

Wrong. Getting the correct training/licensing actually increases your chances of surviving a motorcycle accident. Wear a helmet, get some training, and don't drive drunk and your chances of dying in a motorcycle accident drop down to 1/3rd of the chances of dying...due to being struck by lightning.

You know, I really only track the new games they release in the series. Normally, I have no reason to keep up with anything after the release, but these guys are doing great in support of this title.

And here i was fairly content with the previously announced updates. This one however is now my most sought after release. I cannot resist the thought of some Road Rash love. Maybe they'll call one of those new modes Road Rash.

You really should keep up with the Podcast, lots of great info there week in and week out.
Lots of good stuff coming like timed challenges, and they are planning to have scheduled events and a lot more.

I want a Chase HQ mode in Burnout Paradise multiplayer. Also a Demolition Derby mode. Why do you think they don't put in these simple MP modes in?

We played it at a lan and everyone was telling me that they have created this great world but haven't put in the mp that people want in a 'crashtastic' world.

The updates look good though. I like the thought of bikes in BP.

Something about drivers on bikes in a game that otherwise doesn't feature a single visible human being bothers the pedantic side of my mind.

Still, free support is awesome, and I can't wait to see the night mode.

Although I haven't played Paradise yet (played Burnout3 and Revenge tho), I still think Criterion could do an absolutely brilliant job with this, if they take elements from a great game they made about bikes (although it was way back in 1998) called Redline Racer. It was very arcady and had huge crashes with both bike and rider careening through the air, I can see it working well...
