Valve's most recent Steam update tells us that they will be releasing the high definition (http://www.steampowered.com/Steam/Marketing/August26.2005/) models for Blue Shift next week.

There is also a teaser screenshot (http://www.steampowered.com/Steam/Marketing/August26.2005/img/DOD-S_Axis.jpg) for DoD fans.

It looks like the updated DoD might be worth the wait.

Who cares? Blue Shift isn't even stable. I got 7 minutes into the game until I reached a showstopping bug.

I can't believe you have to pay for DoD. It better be a lot different from the original mod.

Since when are companies obligated to give games away? They're obviously spending a lot of time converting the game to the source engine, which does cost them money. They could have released a crappy port of DoD like the Half-Life Source, but they decided to invest time and money in to a higher quality conversion. If you buy the HL2 silver package for $60 you get every current Steam game and DoD:S when it comes out. That's the best value in the PC game market right now (especially when CS:S is coming out standalone for $40).

My guess is that the vast majority of change will just be visual.

If DoD source is a lot of the same content that's already been released for free, I for one won't be paying for it.

edit: And to say that somehow HL Silver or Bronze becomes more valuable because CS: Source is gonna get it's own boxed version is laughable. The way Valve sold CS never sat right with me. I know why they did it, but they could have at least included HL singleplayer too.

The only reason i bought the Silver Package last October was for DOD source....and guess what nearly 11mths later i've still not got a product i've paid for....not impressed.

Valve and release schedules simply dont go together.

Except they never had a specific release date at the time you purchased this, so it's your fault. If they had said "The game is coming out in December!" and then not released, you'd have good reason to be angry.

Yeah, but the game has been "coming soon" since we pre-ordered it last fall. I feel like 4-5 months is well beyond the range of "coming soon". It's not like they are writing a whole new engine/game.

Remember. DOD: Source comes out in "early spring".

They just didn't say what year.
