Some guys at SmartXX managed to get their hands on a few Xbox 360 developer kits and have posted 40 high resolution shots of the motherboard for our viewing pleasure. If motherboard pictures are your thing then this is heaven in a .zip file. There are also shots of a pretty massive power supply, a new proprietary power plug, the cabling and also the USB wired controller.
Modders are already movin'

I wonder what kind of potential the XB360 has when it comes to emulation, and how difficult it will be to make current emulators run on the machine. I think PS1 and N64 emulators (and perhaps Dreamcast) are well within range with the sheer amount of procesing power.

Wow, the mod chip makes are getting a head start on this generation. That's funny and impressive at the same time.

heh, they can be played on xbox1.

Maybe we can run n64 games at 1600 res now though.

A big hurdle however is that the 360 is in-order processing, so whoever is doing homebrew will have to do some massive optimization to unleash the power.

Hm, I'm curious as to how easy/hard it will be to mod.

PSX games work? Do they run at full speed? It does seem possible to run PS1 games in software mode with 733 Mhz now that you mention it.

Jesus Christ. Fucking sneaky modders.

That's why I love them. Lets hope the chip is ready soon, along with a harddrive replacement.

Modding is not a crime... Well, it is now, but it wasn't in 1997.
I will probably end up with a modded 360, if I can load up a harddrive with goodies like a current Xbox can, that is.

Modding 360 is my destiny.

(adding a 200gig harddrive is, too)

Plenty of piracy for X360! It will definately be a big hit!

That what modding is for!

Your all aware of the reason dreamcast died?, which if you are, thanks for the encouragement ;). Sony loves you for this, trust me. They told me, seriously they tell me things in my dreams, like wifi controllers. It's that or Ol Uncle Ken doing unmentionable things with a ps3 controller :(

I like how when I posted here, that I had a modded Xbox, I was shunned as a lame pirate.

Now it seems to be the "cool" thing... Go figure...

The general rule of thumb is, if you play pirated games, have a modded system, or kill infants with a cudgel, it's better not to admit it. At least not here.

Isn't that pretty much impossible due to the special size of the 360 hard drives? Or do I just not know what I"m talking about?

God they ruined halo 2 with that crap, now they are trying to ruin 360 with that shit. Whats the point of cheating in a video game it just ruins the fun for everyone. And theirs no point to play if you always win, its too easy. Like playing single player in wc3 and entering in whosyourdaddy for every game.

Huh? Cheating? This is about piracy, meaning playing illegal games for free.

Or about modding the system so you can put all kinds of emulators, programs and goodies on it. The homebrew scene it what made the original Xbox so good.

And yes, 'backups' are possible too.

Oh oh oh wait I think I know this one -- weak third-party support (particularly the absence of EA and Square), inept marketing ("It's Thinking," the attempt to make Ulala the company's new "grown-up" mascot), and the system's failure to catch on in Japan (due to the weak economy in that country and/or anticipation for the PS2)? Piracy wasn't really as big a factor in killing the Dreamcast as it's sometimes made out to be; the Utopia bootloader (which marked the true beginning of the Dreamcast pirating frenzy) didn't come out until June 2000, about a week after Sega announced they were going multiplatform and months after the company had secretly decided to pull out of the hardware market. Modchips had been available before that, but there was no way to actually run pirated games until the GD-ROM protection was cracked in spring 2000. Piracy may have cost the Dreamcast a few months, but the system was already on life support by that point.

i have friends who were pirating dreamcast games, he had over 400 games at one time or something not an exact number and im sure if i asked him he would tell me for sure. I didnt say that it was the fall of the system, more that sony put them in their place so to speak. Piracy was just a large factor, when you can burn dreamcast games on cd-rs is what finished em off in my opinion.

They're basically laptop HDDs, IIRC.

So a 200GB drive is possible, but expensive compared to a desktop drive of similar size.

Yeah, but someone will figure out how to use the USB ports.
