Although new Elder Scrolls 4 screenshots (http://xbox.boomtown.net/en_uk/articles/art.view.php?id=9112) are always worth looking at, they are not quite as interesting as the other photo released by Bethesda this time: The game's Xbox 360 and PC covers. It's probably the first finished Xbox 360 game box, we've seen...

I've always liked the green plastic, makes the game boxes stand out on the shelves. Good to see that Microsoft is keeping it.

Ever since Arena, I've been fully prepared to fellate the staff base of Bethesda, and this game doesn't look like it's going to put me off of eating major amounts of stranger cock anytime in the forseeable future

That's funny. The green boxes were always one of the things that turned me off of Xbox. Different strokes, I guess. Personally, I'm curious which will happen first. Either I upgrade my computer so it can play Oblivion, or enough 360 games come out that I actually want to buy one. I figure it'll be a year before either becomes likely. During that time, though, I will be quite jealous of everyone else playing Oblivion.

This game will be utterly fantastic as long as one thing remains true; an open-ended enviroment. Any invisible barriers al la Fable would be a real letdown.

I can almost guarantee you that this will slip to next year. Probably Mid 2006 even.

That's part of what made Elder Scrolls III so great. It would be insane of them to change it.

it won't slip. It will however, be buggy as shit, like morrowind was initialy(sp?).

Oh yeah: Here! Screenshoty goodness! (http://elderscrolls.com/art/obliv_xbox360_screens_01.htm)

BTW, the latest issue of RetroGaming comes with a covermount of Arena.

I wish the magazine wasn't so expensive though.

What makes you think so? After all the statements that this will be a launch title? Is it just your hunch or do you know something we dont? ;)

What you don't realize is that they have been working on this for a lot longer than we've known about it. It'll be there at launch, I can almost guarantee it.

You can download Arena from the net - it's released as freeware. For example my own mirror: http://download.boomtown.net/en_uk/articles/art.view.php?id=4950

High-resolution pic of cover:

Translation of Daedric lettering around the border of the box:
For Lord Dagon forever reborn in blood and fire from the waters of Oblivion.

(Note: Copied from Bethesda's forums, as translated by other fans. I didn't translate that myself. :p)

I like the green plastic too.

That said, who wants to lay bets on people coming into the store, seeing the word XBOX and the green case, taking the game home and then wondering why it won't run on their kid's normal Xbox.

Stupider things have happened.

They DO look awfully similar, the box themes that is.

Wait a minute - I thought Microsoft had stipulated the every X360 game had to be at least Xbox Live-aware? If that's the case, then it's interesting that there's no mention of Xbox Live on the X360 cover.

I dunno, maybe I'm reading too much into this, but it's nonetheless interesting.

Maybe since EVERY game is Live Aware it doesn't have to be mentioned on the box. If the game was NOT Live Aware, then they have to put that disclaimer on. Otherwise, assume it is LA.

Or maybe it's just not a final mock-up of the packaging.

Indeed it is very nice. I've had that particular one set as my desktop background for a few months now.
edit: Oops, wrong pic - i have a different one.

Anyways this game will be the reason for me to own a 360 - cant wait!

But if you look at the rest of the so-called finalized box art for Call of Duty 2 or whatever, you'll see that the Xbox Live logo is prominent in the upper right of the box art.

So I'm guessing this this is not the final box art...

But isn't Call of Duty 2 a game that you can play over Live and against/with people?

If it is, make sense why CoD2 has that logo, and Oblivion doesn't.

Deathbane27

Right, so we're probably only going to see the Live logo if the game actually makes use of Live beyond the minimum, such as playing online, which requires a Gold membership.

Everything Oblivion will be doing on Live (possible content downloads and... uh... I think that's it, the box software itself does the rest) can be done with a Silver membership, so there's no point in putting the Live logo on there: it's assumed.

That sounds about right. It's not so much that every game is Live aware, as in individual games containing code to support Live. It's more that the 360 itself is running its own Live code in the background at all times. Think of it like running an IM program on your PC while you play a single-player game; while the game isn't doing anything with your Internet connection, your IM program is still running and in contact with its server(s).
