TeamXbox (http://www.teamxbox.com/) has posted (http://features.teamxbox.com/xbox/1271/Mortal-Kombat-Shaolin-Monks-Exclusive-Opening-Movie/p1/) the opening movie sequence for the upcoming Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks title as well as a five other movies that focus on the story and characters.

Release Date: 09/19/2005 (XBOX (http://www.gametab.com/xbox/mortal.kombat.shaolin.monks/4118/), PS2 (http://www.gametab.com/ps2/mortal.kombat.shaolin.monks/4119/))

While these are not in-game movies, they do kick some serious ass. Hopefully the game itself won't be ass.

An interesting movie. Made me remember my fight against Goro with Johnny Cage in MK1 on Sega Genesis.

Didn't they revamp the series with deadly alliance? And isn't this a brawler like final fight?

I played the demo on last months OXM disk and it was suprisingly good.

Yeah the demo is great. Not the best graphics, but I will definetley be picking it up. Good co-op game.

Yes liquidize they did revamp it back in '02, then a sequel in '04. Both good IMO.

The intro movie to Deception was actually surprisingly good, mostly due to the superlative fight animation. Huge sense of power and force behind the movements. This one's pretty good, too.

How about Street Fighter :D?

Street Fighter II - The World Warrior
Street Fighter II' - Champion Edition
Street Fighter II' Turbo / Street Fighter II' - Hyper Fighting
Super Street Fighter II - The New Challengers
Super Street Fighter II Turbo / Super Street Fighter II X - Grand Master Challenge
Hyper Street Fighter II: The Anniversary Edition

And those are only Street Fighter II games. If I include Alpha, III, Ex and other capcom ploys to earn a buck, the list will be MUCH longer.

The ruined Mortal Kombat when it went 3D.

It wasn't the leap to 3D, it was the horrible way the fighting engine evolved. I really tried to like Deadly Alliance & Deception (conveniently ignoring MK4), but I just hate the dial-a-combo system. And the basic "non-combo" punches and kicks are completely worthless. The fighting engine has no flow at all. Deception had a lot ot offer, and I put in a little time, but the core of the game - the fighting engine - just isn't fun. Just my 2c. Anyways, the demo of Shaolin Monks was pretty cool. Definitely God of War-ish, but with less story and more fighting, which isn't a bad thing (of course, this is judging ten minutes of a demo). Seemed like a nice mindless brawler that looks pretty and has cool moves.

Yeah, I wanted to like the last MK game, but the fighting was so clunky and robotic. It would also be perfectly fine with me if they tried to cut the martial arts crap and just make it a game about launching fire balls and tearing off limbs, possibly also having moves where you try and drown someone in a pool of their own blood.

So... Shaolin Monks might not suck?

I quite liked the demo, but the 3D platforming was just depressing. What is with all the invisible walls and poor perspectives recently.

Loved the opening, but it'll never replace the movie.

"Those were four hundred dollar sunglasses you son-of-a-bitch"

And the way Shang Tsung died at the end with the pit thing, great.

Not sure how I like how they're presenting the tournament here. The fights did not happen all at once, even towards the end.

Jesus, I'm nitpicking the story of a MK game. But MK's strongest thing has always been the story, even through the movies. (Yes, Annhilation sucked, but the Raiden being Shao Khan's brother thing was brilliant.) Hope the story through the game is remembered a bit better, I love the concept.

i never really understood these fighting games. They're too arcadish for my liking.
But which one is better, tekken or mortal kombat? They both have new games.

The answer: Virtua Fighter 4 :-)

MK looked much better when the costumes of the fighters were simple. They looks realistic and even the first movie captured the look dead on. Now they look like a bunch of drawings, oh well.

I hate the last two mortal kombats... I thought they had something with MK4
