I totally couldn't resist that title. Anyway, yeah, "Grand Theft Auto IV" is now gold, so says Gamespot (http://www.gamespot.com/news/6189477.html). During Take-Two's shareholders' meeting today, the publisher said that GTAIV has gone gold. The game is "in production and in trucks en route to retailers," proclaimed Take-Two CEO Ben Feder. Rated M for Mature, GTAIV will be released on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on April 29.
And, hey, look at that, it's already "en route".

I would sure hope it's gone gold by time it's only a week and a half until release.

Unlike some companies, Rockstar is able to make a few million DVDs in less than a week.

I wonder if Sears will sell this title and if they will sell it early, ignoring street dates, like most titles......

So does this mean if you ordered online and chose next day shipping I will get my copy on April 29th?

Depends on the store but with most places you'll still get it the 30th. Online stores are assholes about delivery dates...I've caught amazon shipping a game out to me days in advance but used ground instead of the overnight I paid for but still got to me on the quoted date and not a day sooner.

Having worked in the video game industry for over 7 years, I've found Rockstar to be the most guarded over any other publisher when it comes to GTA, only allowing "day of release" even to high up/respected journalists (I know, there's no such thing as a "respected journalist.") I would be very surprised if anyone, including senior Rockstar employees received a take-home copy before release day.
But you never know. Good luck with that.

You don't mean street dates right? Because I have had pretty much every GTA game a couple days before it was supposed to be avail. The worse being S.A.

The big question is!: Will there be any huge day one flaws, such as going into the bar for mission #2 causes the whole game to freeze up on just the 360 version *or just the ps3 version? and you have to wait a week for a fresh patch!

I don't see why Rockstar would care about a broken street date. They seem to be a company who thrives on breaking boundries, so for some reason I think they'd love to know that a few happy gamers got their copies early.
I have to stay busy with TF2 so that I'm not staring at my watch for the next 11 days...

I'm amazed every gamers best friend, Jack Thompson, hasn't tried to get this one banned recently.
He's well overdue for his next poorly thought out senile rant.
Maybe I just missed it.
Anyway, I sense a sudden illness coming on. I should be ok to go to work for now, but only God knows what state I'll be in come...say...the 29th. ;)
Man, these things just creep up on you out of nowhere, you know?
My local emporium promises that should it get the game early we can have the game early. We just have to cook the receipts as Rockstar made all retailers sign a release saying they can be sued into the ground if they sell it early.

If someone is willing to fill me/us in; when a game is obtained from a street-date-breaking retailer (It seems Sears and K Mart are good for that historically?) do you call them before hand to see if they have it? Or...
Ask them nicely in person if they have received the game yet and hope they just go in the back room and say "Yep, we have them in the back. Here you go!"
I have yet to have the luck to catch a store selling a game early so I am very curious. Thanks ahead of time for any feedback given.

That's because he'd have to leave the state of FL to be able to do anything. The FL legal system won't take his shit anymore.

Heh, I don't think there's a gamer alive who could resist shooting Ocelot while he's just laying unconscious on the floor. I know I couldn't. :)

Oh cool. I'm not surprised they got fed up.
I just read on the GTAIV Wiki page that Rockstar and Jack Thomson have some kind of agreement where he won't try to stop the release/sale of any more of their products.
He's apparently not happy about a certain Lawyer character in the game though. Naughty Rockstar. :D

*sigh*...guess I should of moved my lazy ass then to put a deposit on the game in an actual store...maybe i'll stalk the UPS person...
I would love a mission that involves killing multiple lawyers that all happen to have a passing resemblance to crazy Jack in some way. ..It would probably be easy to work out a 'noble' cause for you to be killing them for. :D Well, regardless, I'm buying this game. Can't wait.
