MindSurge Entertainment and Netcharger announced today that the full version of their online FPS game Control Monger (http://www.controlmonger.com) will be a full-featured MMOFPS game. The original plan for Control Monger was to be a team-based FPS and the concept to develop it into a MMOFPS was implemented earlier this week.

“We sat down and talked over the idea and have come to the conclusion that it will not add much time to the development cycle to make the game a MMOFPS. The expanded version of the product will now be a full-featured MMOFPS instead of the normal online FPS game.” Clyde Bielss CEO of MindSurge Entertainment stated in a team meeting Yesterday. “The new age of MMO’s is in one time buy, no monthly fee games and we plan to be on the forefront of this wave of new games.” Added David Blasdell, CEO of NetCharger.

The Expanded MMOFPS version of the game will include a central chat room to meet new friends, build clans and join games. A rank system will be added for both clans and players to keep track of their progress and players will gain skills and power-ups as they move up the ranks. Dedicated server software will be downloadable and players will be able to run their own servers. All player servers will answer back to the main server database and keep track of rank. Player will be able to download map-building tools and the world of Control Monger will be as big as the imagination of our player community.

Yeah, is it vehicle based. Those screens tell me nothing. Do I play as that triangle thing or what?

255 players per server. big enough for me. but the screen caps dont look that hot.

I was in the early beta for that. I got bored really quickly, it doesn't have much over any other FPS. If you played anything but a sniper you had no chance to do anything.

Course I haven't played it since early beta so it might have changed a lot, but even the "MMO" part isn't enough to make me want to install it again.

Since its run through player servers hacking is going to be a huge problem. And since they didn't design it from the ground up as a MMOFPS they may have horrible lag problems that they won't be able to fix because their bad network code is build deep into the game. Their original code is for a regular fps type game, once you go MMO you can have a host of other problems that won't pop up untill your game has been running for a while, or untill you have a certain number of players online.

I wish them the best of luck, but I have my doubts.

Just downloaded the open beta. Here are my thoughts:

-You fight as a "bot". When targeting others, you can see that these are hovering above the ground, but you don't see that from the FPS view.

-Team-based game with various types of bots. However, the balance between bots is really crappy. If the sniper bot can zoom, I couldn't tell. Also, there is no windup to sniping. . . just a long distancing little bullet.

-Animations for the hoverjets are pretty cool on some of the bots, but the sounds leave a lot to be desired and the animations are very hot and cold (Ooh, that looks neat. . . OH, that looks like ass).

-Netcode is odd. Maybe it is lag or maybe it is a skill that I am not aware of but enemies "warp" several feet away in firefights making it hard to keep them targeted.

-Each bot has a primary weapon and a universal secondary weapon (a delayed detonation grenade). There won't be any getting versatile with these bots as your abilities are so limited.

-The map I played on was poorly designed and seemed thrown together. Shit graphics too.

-Every bot I played (I didn't try them all) was incredibly slow by FPS standards. Lumbering peices of space garbage.

-User-interface - It is a throw-back to DOS games. They do not really have a user-interface by today's standards. It just barely gets the job done.

Overall, this is a very under-designed FPS game that does not offer anything new to the genre that I could see. The lack of solid basic design adds to it's inital bad recipe by being implemented poorly. Control Monger is a burnt fruitcake. . . that is to say, a bad idea poorly implented.

I would call this a successful portfolio project for someone looking to get hired in an entry-level position at a game company, but I'm amazed that they would attempt to release this as anything more than indy freeware.

it seams you did not understand all the controls, every bot has 3 weapons, 3 grenade types and 3 skills. There is also a turbo boost feature for all bots so the speed of the bots is increased.

press the F4 key when you enter the game and you will get a full control list. This game take more then one map of play to get the hang of the game play.

also that is only the beta for the Free Version of the game and not the full MMORPG version o the game.

What would the full version have that the beta doesn't?

the beta version is not a MMOFPS it is only a Online shooter.

the Full version will have Ranking systems for clans and players, players will gain abilities and armour as they go higher in rank. There will be a centeral meeting place for all players to plan clan battles, join clans, plan games and just talk. There will be more maps (includeing maps that will support much larger battles) and 3 new bot types.

these is only a few things that will be in the Full version. There will be much more then this!
