That is a huge orgy of games.

Can you even enjoy games properly if you buy that many all at once?

Maybe this is a good deal for internet cafes that have a big screen tv.
Course they would probably prefer wired controllers and no live card.

Hey, look! A product replacement plan is *mandatory*! I'm so glad GameStop cares about me and my needs; I'd probably have been a fool and turned that plan down, but obviously I need it. Thank you, GameStop, for saving gamers everywhere from their deeply flawed judgement...

(Me, I'll buy a 360 from someplace that doesn't bundle. I've never had a problem getting a console on launch day without a preorder.)

Ok ok, I'm going to sound real stupid but I just woke up and I dont really know what I'm talking about so. Does anyone find all these budles a little odd? I mean it could just be me, but I find it a bit strange that their making people pay these obsurd prices. This could really detur sales for the 360, may just be me, and it probably is but I smell a Sony conspericy.

Demo Boy has an interesting point -- this wouldn't be a bad deal for a gaming place that maybe rents out game time. Hadn't thought about that. But for the average consumer, I can't see much use.

Has anyone confirmed that this is the same for in-store buying at both EB and Gamestop as well. To be honest, I'm glad I saved my voice message saying they moved my pre-order to the Premium pack at $399.99. I'm not in the mood for a bundle, just want the system and to pick my own games...I'm guessing this is online only, but who knows.

Speaking of product replacement plans and extended warranties, I bring you this magical Simpsons moment:

After discovering a crayon lodged in his brain is the reason for Homer being the way he is, the crayon is removed. This makes Lisa happy but annoys everyone else. He decides to have the crayon placed back where it was...

Moe: All right, tell me when I hit the sweet spot.
Homer: Deeper, you pusillanimous pilsner pusher!
Moe: All right, all right. [with a small hammer and chisel,
taps the crayon further up Homer's nose]
Homer: De-fense! [woof-woof] De-fense! [woof-woof]
Moe: Eh, that's pretty dumb. But, uh ... [taps once more]
Homer: Extended warranty? How can I lose?
Moe: Perfect.

yes, EB and Gamestop are merging as of next year sometime..but here's the problem I see with this "bundle"...Some of those games haven't even been confirmed launch titles yet. It's worth noting that this is not what Gamestop is requiring you to buy (since everyone here seems to think it is). This is their "ultimate bundle." They have a few lower cost options more in line with what EBgames was offering. On that same note, their lowest cost option is the same price as EB's highest and it only comes with the Core version. I'll just buy one at Walmart with Oblivion, Gun, and Condemned thanks.

Why haven't we heard more about Condemned?? It's supposed to be a launch title and it's from Monolith (who makes FPS games that I love). That game looks pretty awesome to me, best in the lineup after Oblivion.

You think being wrong so often would deter you, but you keep right at it. $199 defies all logic. They do not need to undercut the 360. They are in the dominant position. If they match them, they will do better. Half the price? I don't think so. Now, I could see the Revolution for $199.

That's what I thought, but why are people having such an outrage over this. Just go down to your local Gamestop or EB and reserve the system, that way you don't have to worry about bundles. You know what, more power to em. Just because most of the posters here don't have enough money to purchase that pack, doesn't mean that everyone is in the same boat. This isn't the only bundle that they are offering either. If some VP decides to go out and do some quick christmas shopping for his son and comes across this all inclusive pack, its gonna make for a happy child. Try and tell Bentley that no one is gonna pay $300,000 for a car when they can buy one for 10k. They are delivering a product to a small percentage of people who can afford it. Personally, I would never buy something like this, but i can guarantee there are some out there that will.

This whole "I could buy a new computer for the same price!" argument is asinine. You're not paying $1200 for the X-Box 360 here, you're paying $1200 for the system AND a slew of games. Sure, spend that $1200 on a PC instead, and you have a PC... and no games. I'm NOT saying console is better than PC here, just for the record, I prefer PC's. I'm merely saying that this bundle is not comparable to buying a new computer, as you're getting the hardware and the software together.

My point is that to get all righteous and indignant about this is stupid. You're not forced to buy this bundle, and the reason you'd buy this bundle is just to get all these games at once, rather than buying them individually. You're not saving anything, and you're not being gouged either. Really, it's a pointless bundle when you think about it. Personally, I think this only exists at all to say "mine's bigger!".

There are people who spend several thousand dollars on themselves on a whim, and there are people who would consider buying such a package for themselves, their family or even as a gift so that they'd have 'the whole deal' and not have to come back and buy games for, well, the better part of a year.

That being said, it's pretty funny how many people are getting bent out of shape over this. That's like me pointing to a $10,000 Alienware ALX package (with, say, half a dozen games thrown in to round out the price) and scoffing at what idiots they must be for even offering such a frivilously expensive bundle, and then using that to attack PCs in general.

Wait till October 15th.

Hit BestBuy.com (http://bestbuy.com), Target.com (http://target.com) or Walmart.com (http://walmart.com) and pre-order just the $399.99 system and just the games that you know will be out on launch day. (BestBuy.com will probably even offer free shipping.)

Stay away from Amazon.com, they will claim to have stuff in stock and then you will get the "has been delayed" notice right about the time everyone else is opening their Xbox 360 box.

By October 15th, the launch titles will have been confirmed and the big retailers will all have their online ordering in place for the system and the games.

Yeah, just stick with the stores. Even the ebgames and gamestop stores will have only the two *** bundles, not the extra retarded ones. The bundles are for online shopping only, because the stores expect folks to walk in and peruse the shop and buy more stuff, while that doesn't work online, so bundles for basically for lazy parents who just want a quick 800 dollar gift for the spoiled little kids. Sorry to all the spoiled little kids for making fun of you, please stop screaming and stomping your feet now. Good job, parents of spoiled kids, way to go you ass hats.

You know, this is a sort of a rude awakening actually. In a year or two lot of us do eventually spend that much with 20-50 dollar purchases across maybe 2 or even 3 consoles. Maybe someone at EB or GS wants us to realize how dumb we are

No they aren't. They are online. I'm sure someone who knows how to type is also housed with the elite knowledge of walking. Thus, they then have the ability to walk into and EB or Gamestop and pre-order a 360 without said bundle. So no, they aren't forcing you to buy anything.

sawa
08-25-2005, 02:13 PM
You don't have to preorder this bundle or any bundle for that matter. We have two preorder skus for the X-Box 360:
The Core System 299.99 (teh suck)
And the Expanded System Or Premium System 399.99(has the hard drive, wireless controller, etc)
Most of Game Stop's Bundles cost the same as it would just to buy all of the stuff anyways. I've worked there for a couple years now, and that seems the be the general rule. We're selling to the video game ignorant rich parents of spoiled kids. They want to get them the best of the best for Christmas, I bet we can sell these bundles fairly easily.

And GS and EB are merging...aka we bought them out. Should all be taking affect in the next couple years but they aren't really dicussing the matter until all the papers are signed.

But none of this matters really, who wants the 360 with the PS3 coming out?

GameStop.com reserves the right to substitute any given game in a bundle if that game becomes unavailable at launch.

Awesome, so who knows what games are actually included in the bundle.

Due to the unusual size and weight of the Microsoft Xbox 360 Bundle Packs, an additional shipping and handling fee of $9.99 will be added to your order.

I'm paying $1200 and still getting dinged for extra shipping?! This deal gets better and better.

roboflavinoid
08-25-2005, 02:46 PM
Obviously $1200 is a ridiculous amount to drop at once on any hobby (save cars, boats, privately funded spaceflight, etc.) but $700 isn't, so much. I mean, really.. show of hands... is there anyone here that doesn't own 4 games for each console they own?

My only problem with these bundles, and it is a dealbreaker, is that I can't choose the games myself. Seriously, it's the internet people! Is it really so hard to set up a system that lets us choose 4 games to buy with the console?

I know it's a rule of retail that you use the thing that you know will sell to push the thing that you know won't. But I can't help but think that they'd have happier customers if those customers didn't fork over their money begrudgingly.

But yeah, believe it or not, there will be some people who buy the bundle. They are rich enough and have enough disposable income to buy all of that same merchandise on day one. The weird thing about this bundle is that it doesn't appear to be directed at any particular person. It has Madden, Oblivion, PGR3, Kameo and Quake. I mean, is there someone's who's favorite genre is "all" who would actually be naturally getting all the games they're offering?

Me. Although no way I'd ever drop the money for this deal. Still, most of the games are appealing to me in one way or another.

Hey, that Omega pack only has one rechargable battery pack! How'd they miss that opportunity to boost the price?
Heeeeeeeeeeeeey my sources say Duke Nukem Forever is NOW using the Unreal 3 engine and it will be out on the pc in 2007... :o
Actually, since they missed '04, they have to wait for another year that contains 4 to come around.

-Due to the unusual size and weight of the Microsoft Xbox 360 Bundle Packs, an additional shipping and handling fee of $9.99 will be added to your order.

You know what I am going to do? I am going to wait until after the christmas season and see where all consoles stand. I'll wait for games to come out and see whats good and whats bad. Then I'll make my purchase.

Well spoken. You pretty much said it all.

As for killing of Kef...I say kill him in style. Perhaps a mauling by a couple of disgruntled Grizzly Bears?

Oh, Can someone tell what makes the 360 hard-drive so damn special. The wireless shit doesn't interest me, so what is so great about the hard drive?

HAHA!! I told you the other day Gunny when you said... *cough*gamestopdoesnotforcebundle*cough* ...when they say best practices they mean best practices that serves their purpose. :D

Yes, I know you are not forced to buy the bundle in the store... ..just like EB does not force you to buy it in the store. If some of you are not taking Evils advice and holding out for the official release date on game titles, call your local store. My store has a couple pre-orders that opened back up. Hurry though... ..they fill right back up.

The thing that pisses me off is that I know several of our pre-orders that are headed straight for EBay. You guys can laugh at companies like EB/Gamestop for throwing these bundles out there but they are nothing compared to the vultures that are EBay sellers.

This seems like a marketing ploy designed to make people say "You know, $399 is not that much after all. Maybe we will just get 3 Xbox360s and save $800."

Seriously though, after seeing that $399 does not seem too steep now does it?

Sure, I'd love one. After I win the lottery.

Given how much money I've sunk into this current gen, I'm going to have to end up sitting the next one out and saving my pennies so I can get all of the new systems in about 4 years when they're showing up in pawn shops.

No way my wife is going to let me go for these ones!

Now if I could get some kind of share in these companies retroactive about, oh, 4-5 years and based on the amount of cash I've sunk into them for my habit, then I'd concider it.

Yeah, as much as I would like to get one it is just too much money for me to be spending on a system. If the Revolution comes out and is a reasonable price I might pick up one of those.

I always see the comparison with how much is spent upgrading a computer to the cost of getting a next-gen system (xbox360/ps3) but the difference is that I can spend $250 on video card and see a large performance boost on everything that I currenty have. As well, in a few months I always would have the option of spending more doing the processor/mb if necessary. So I don't know... spending at least $650 (cad) on the xbox360 (system and 2 games) does not really make sense for me. Who knows what the situation will be next year though :)

bah.. i'm too late in the day to say anything. But too all of you saying you could get a "great" computer for that price.. mmhmmm with what games?. For $2000, your getting 20 games. You COULD get a $2000 computer and no games. Lets see, $2000 computer +20 games = $4000. OMG I COULD GET A EVEN AWSOMERIST COMPUTER $4000 +20 games =$6000 ... YEAAAHAAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAA

My point is, no matter how much you are spending on a bundle, your still buying a $299 core system and a $99 harddrive. The rest is just fluff.

Well, I ordered parts for my computer and had friends put it together. Only spent $1200 for what was a very top of the line computer last summer. That leaves $800 for computer games. :)

But with "Microsoft's" Premium system, for $400 your getting almost all you need. Given that a PC is a single person at keyboard, I won't figure the price of another controller. That leaves you $1600 in games. If you do add in an extra controller and some other goodies, your still looking at $1500 left for games.

With that bundle, they are adding $1100 worth of games.

Probably. I just can't see the Rare games making it on time. I can't see too many of the PC ports making it either. Besides, none of the "cheaper" bundles has Gears of War. WTF?

All I need is the system, two games, two controllers. That is it. I'm still undecided to get the core or premium system. Is the hard-drive really that great? I think I'll just wait and see, and buy it if its supported. I don't want to be like the Sony fan who put $100 into a hard-drive that is pretty much useless. Just get the core. Wireless crap is overrated and overpriced and I want games. Not dumbass faceplates and headsets.

I understand your concern Ultima, but the difference between the PS2 harddrive and the 360's harddrive is when they were launched. PS2; 3+ years later, with only ONE game and no other uses. 360; At launch with already Oblivion, FXII, Live, Music and all future downloadable content and of course a good bulk of B.C for older xbox games.

The harddrive was used largly used for the xbox, so you can expect that a good majority will provide extra perks for those who own a harddrive in the future.

I loved the way that the Xbox hard drive was used. The ability to have virtually unlimited save games and custom soundtracks is great. I hope that the memory cards or whatever medium there is for saving on the 360 actually hold a fair amount of data. Juggling memory cards should be a thing of the past now.

The only games the PS2 hard-drive supported (that I know of) is RPG Maker 3, RE: Outbreak 2, and FFX1. I'm not saying the 360 harddrive will be like the PS2 one. I just want to know what the hell it does. I know it saves games and probably does custom soundtracks (like the old Xbox) and has SOME backwards compatibility, but what else. I don't know, so that is why I'm asking. For me, a $100 difference is a BIG difference.

No, No, No

This is only web orders. Same goes for EB.
