It's time to geek out Doom fans. The official trailer for the Doom Movie (http://www.doommovie.com/) is out. And it's badass. It's got some First Person scenes, it's got plasma guns, it's got chainguns, and it's got chainsaws.

Mirrors: Fileshack (http://www.fileshack.com/file.x?fid=7567), Yahoo (http://movies.yahoo.com/feature/doomqt.html)

Ok...I'm stoked. That was one badass trailer!

That IS one B@d @ss trailer! Whoop, can't wait, I really liked the FPS scenes.

Nice nice... I liked the ending. The glam-fake-metal-rock soundtrack was pretty bad, but everything else looks ok. The first person scenes look pretty cool, but I don't know if/how they will work on the big screen. It certainly is brave, but I don't really want my movie to look like the game. I guess time will tell if it was a good idea.

The pinky demon's back legs are training wheels, ahaha. +1

The movie is so mindless it's faithful to the game. +1

The Rock can't act to convince himself. -100

It's DooM :)

Sweet fancy Moses! That looked great! Have they done the impossible? Have they actually managed to incorporate some measure of the FPS game experience in a movie...and it WORKS?

Regading The Rock's actiing ability...uhhh, this ain't Hamlet. He's supposed to act like The Sarge. The Sarge is The Rock with futuristic weapons. I'm guessing he can perform up to that level.

How did this movie go from being complete shit, to possibly being a faithful representation of the game?

The glam-fake-metal-rock soundtrack was pretty bad, but everything else looks ok.

Yeah, I was half expecting them to try and get Trent Reznor or Chris Vrenna in to do the soundtrack but I guess we can't have everything. Woulda been pretty cool if they could use replicas of the machine guns from Doom 3 too with the ammo counter visible.

Scene with the pinky and the chainsaw looks like it could be pretty sweet though.

Edit: I still don't get what the idea was behind replacing demons with... whatever they are now. Means no awesome Hell scenes.

Or maybe they are keeping that as the big surprise?

Music was ass... The trailer is somewhat better although I wonder is the first person scenes really going to be in movie or just for trailers sakes... And it still should of been hell... It's not that hard to make hell movie "believable" O_o

Little too much fps stuff for my taste, still, it'll be an interesting action flick.

Cupelix

I won't be so surprised if somehow a hell connection is still formed and they're just keeping that plot point out of the trailers for now. I mean, lets be honest, an evolution of the human genome does not create Pinky demons. And, I'm sure that it was careful, purposeful wording to have them say "...and with it, all hell has broken loose." The FPS sequences look interesting, and yet kind of funny since there didn't appear to be any head-bob in the shots. Looked like a video game in that respect, but then kind of out of place since I'm looking at something real.

I don't know. I watched it with no sound and it was not so impressive. Don't you think the monsters look kind of low-budget cg? And the whole beginning part of the trailer with the scientists experimenting on that guy on the table, didn't it look kind of like that Resident Evil Movie? And I mean that in the kind of shaky cheap camera shot aspect of it.
Do you think they are really aiming this movie squarely at the hardcore Doom fan versus trying to make it a popular action movie? The fps view is not really practical from a cinematic viewpoint, it's only purpose is to titillate the gamers in the audience. And remember the outcry we raised when they said that the movie would not be on Mars and not have much in common with Doom and how they changed it to placate us?
It seems like they are just biting on Aliens, hard. Same guns, attitude and set pieces.
It just looks kind of vanilla, they could have made it really hardcore and satanic and bloody and scary. Does anyone think they are really going to get scared watching this? Probably not.

I am really hoping that is a temporary soundtrack. It definitely doesn't fit with the mood and atmosphere of the alledged storyline. I was hoping for something much more subtle.

Other than that, it appears to be a video game movie starring a wrestler turned actor. He wasn't bad in The Rundown (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0327850/). I'm thinking he might be the next all-purpose action star. He just needs to quit using that crappy stage name. It was fine for the WWF crowd but, I just don't think it works outside the ring.

Nothing really lame about Dwayne Johnson... Wayne Johnson... ummm Dwayne Wayne... DJ...

Yeah ummm so the Rock was pretty good in Rundown and Walking Tall although it was a pretty uncalled for movie... And don't we all remember the Scorpian King... Which I would like to say linked the mummy 2's character in almost know way at all...

Funny how Urban is the guy, but nowhere near getting "the guy's" type of top billing...

The soundtrack may or may be not in the movie. After all, The Servant's "Cells" which played during the Sin City trailer were not in the actual movie.

Surprisingly, I feel like watching the Doom movie despite the fact that:
a) I don't like Doom
b) I don't like The Rock
c) I don't like generic action movies with wrestlers gone actors

I like how the movie appears to start with the crew being fully aware the place is full of monsters ("Rock: If it moves, kill it") rather than the slow buildup of "what's going on here?". I mean we all know the formula by now so why waste the audience's time by having the main characters slowly picked off until they realize what's happening? Good job Doom.

Sorry to say, but I wasn't as impressed as some of you seem to be.

That just looks like the typical science fiction action movie. Cheesy music, The Rock (he's not good), and lame CGI effects... Not impressed at all.

It's looking exactly like I thought it would. The sets look like leftovers from Aliens and the Resident Evil movies.

I wasn't impressed until the end of the trailer with pinky and the chainsaw. That made me sit up and go "WOAH!" Very cool. It'll be cheesy no doubt, but it should be entertaining.

Trailer looked great. Gotta say it sure sounded like this movie was gonna suck ass.
I'm thrilled it appears to be just plain old fun. Someone I know in the biz has seen a rush of the film and says the FPS stuff was just for the trailers. Also he said they put in a ton of gamer easter eggs in it. Sorry as I can be but I like Dwayne. He was very good in Be cool as the gay body guard!

badass?!?! Bad as in ass, maybe...

Not impressed at all. This has Resident Evil looking like a high-budget, multimillion-dollar production that won the hearts of millions worldwide.

Maybe I missed something. Tried it twice, but it only looked worse on the second go-around.

I think I'll stick to the game, thanks. This looks closer to Doom3 rather than DOOM, anyway, and that can only be a *bad* thing for most DOOMaholics.

Couple of points. The creatures (hopefuly they'll end up being demons) aren't "crappy CGI" theyre practical effects.

The FPS segment will last about 9 minutes, if I remember correctly from what I saw at Quakecon week before last. From some of your reactions to the short bit in the trailer, I'm guessing it'll be 9 minutes too much for you. I could be wrong on that though.

T-Dawg just stated something that has been known since comic-con, for all of you who's only research into this movie has been from solely watching the trailers, and nothing else...

Stan Winston studios who did all the practical creature effects in Terminator 1, 2, 3, Predator 1, 2, Aliens, Jurassic Park...etc are handling all the monsters in Doom. I think I read that 85% of all monster screen time was done without CG.

Funny how most kids today just assume everything in movies has to be done on a computer.

Those of you who say the Rock can't act obviously forget his role in Saving Private Ryan. I know it was short, I know it was basically just that 1 scene, but he was throughly convincing when he's been asked to actually bother to act. I think more often he just likes to have fun and kick ass in movies. He's young, he'll do more acting as he gets older and looks for more mature films. Similar to what I think Bruce Willis is doing these days with the likes of Hostage and Sincity.

Please, do not attempt to speak for all "DOOMaholics", for your vocalization is unwanted.
The first real PC game I ever played was the old DOOM shareware years upon years ago, and I was hooked ever since. Don't tell me what games I should or shouldn't like as a "doomaholic".
Doom 3 was a pretty damn good game and a great addition to the series. Granted, it was essentially a retread, but it was done damn well.
Yeah, I know...the flashlight. Everybody talks about the flashlight and how it's a bad thing. Sure, it sucks not being able to have the flashlight and a weapon out at once...but personally, that's a big part of what makes the game scary. Hell, it worked for me; I haven't been as nerved up playing a game as I was playing Doom 3.
Sure, it's not the best game known to man, but it certainly felt like DOOM.

As a side-note, is anybody else surprised to see that The Rock's playing Johnny Bravo in the upcoming movie?
As another side-note, it's WWE now, not WWF. It's been like that for a few years now.

We may have to disagree on that.

DOOM, in essence, was a monster fragfest. Tons and tons of baddies, pure chaos.

Doom3 had *none* of that. Technology demo, semi-decent game, but Serious Sam games did the DOOM concept much better.

I've been playing computer games since Spacewar on *nix boxen. I've followed PC games since CGA was hip. I have a clue.

Doom3 is no Doom. Too many advanced graphics features killed the total number of monsters onscreen at a time, and there's no excuse for a permanently-dark setting in order to cover for small rooms.

Doom/Doom2 had some *occasionally* dark/flickering lights rooms--it was far from overused, and therefore CONTRIBUTED to the atmosphere, instead of boring the player to death.

If Doom3 scared you, don't, under any circumstances, dare play System Shock 2. No need for a heart attack for mental treatment. There's a game that didn't need great graphics, or lack of lighting in 98% of all gamespace, to scare the crap out of you.
Of course, it was much more complicated than a series of monsterclosets, so many didn't bother trying it.

Xerxes
08-26-2005, 11:04 AM
Ok Mr. Carmack if Doom 3 wasn't wasn't your grandpa's doom what was it...
If someone want to reinvision their own game they can do that... Doesn't mean we have to like it... Hasn't Lucas taught you anything about remakes...

System Shock 2? Yup, that game didn't any of that to scare the crap out of me. It did however need something to keep me awake and unbored for longer than 30 seconds at a time... Christ, I wanted to love that game so bad, but couldn't.

It reeked.
