Yeah in one of the articles on EA a couple of weeks ago they talked about the UI. Fully skinnable and MS also wants to have the faceplates and UI match. How cool is that? ;)

How many of us have desktop wallpapers of upcoming or currently playing games? I bet most of us, so giving away a UI with a game/limited edition is pretty cool. Of course you can also expect this to appear on the marketplace ;) Maybe home made UI skins?

As someone with no interest in the game and a dislike of Rare, that's a really nice package.

Also my current wallpaper is Gabe's Nova wallpaper, has been since it appeared. It's there for the art, not the game.

As I recall, Half-Life 2's special edition didn't have a manual

Perhaps not, but at least you can jump in Half-Life 2! Can't have everything.

I'm surprised jumping is such a big deal. I mean, obviously the game is made with no jumping in mind. Goldeneye didn't have jumping and that's one of the best multiplayer experiences most people have had. Same with Timesplitters...

I dunno, maybe I'm just missing something.

But anyway to be on topic, I'm all over this.

Jumping in first person is way overrated. How often do you see people,in real life gun fights jump to avoid being shot? A roll is more realistic.

>Jumping in first person is way overrated

Like I said in a previous thread... how many time do you move around your daily world while jumping? I thought so... I would love a game without jumping and yet realistic ways of interacting with world.

As long as some climbing made it in. I agree, jumping is pretty stupid, and it really does take away from the "realism". And for the people about to make the "well you can jump in real life, why can't I do it in a game?!" argument...you can also do somersaults and back handstands in real life, but that doesn't mean you'd break those moves out if someone was firing a gun at your head!

Um, how often do you see people in real life gun fights, period?

I'm not as yet :(

I think i'm the only one in the world that is pissed by having to walk up slopes all the time in multiplayer games. For me Timesplitters is now old because i can't jump. In fact because of Riddick and Halo2 i didn't buy the new Timesplitters game.

I would hate to be unable to jump from behind and shoot someone.Jump upto a ledge and wait etc.

GoldenEye and Perfect Dark was amazing ( i had my first all night gamefest with GoldenEye). I just feel that nowadays you should be able to crouch and jump at least. Yes put a roll in by all mean but just don't take away jump which is established in all FPS nowadays.

Hopefullly i will love the game when its in my hands. I just think its daft nowadays in a FPS not to be able to jump.

Nope, I'm with you. Then again, I love SWAT 4 and there's no jumping in that. I guess it all depends how well the lack of jumping is implemented.

How about playing the game before moaning about the lack of jump? Maybe you won't miss it. I've never missed the jump in Rainbow Six or Ghost Recon.

Nah, where would the fun be in that? I'd much rather speculate on how shite and underwhelming the game will be because you can't jump! It's much more fun that way.

Oh, and you'll notice that I've already commented on how much I enjoy SWAT 4, Ghost Recon, etc. despite there being no jumping in either of those games. Sheesh.

No i didn't miss the jump in Rainbox Six or Ghost Recon either. Very different game and setting though

For me Perfect Dark is set in a sci-fi world with lasers, jet packs and weird gadgets. I would expect the 'usual' type of freedom for that setting.

Plus i would be fine without a jump if my character was a dalek :D

Anyway fingers crossed and i won't miss it :)

Sheesh.

Where did you get that his comment was directed at you? Sheeeeesh. ;)

Oh by the way I hate all the bunny hopping, what they should do is if you jump once fine but if you jump again you sprain your ankle, and fall flat on your face and start crying.

No jumping is fine if the character can vault/climb over ledges or small blockades. There are times when a jump would help, but many games have show that context sensitive buttons work in that situation.

No jump was fine in goldeneye BACK THEN this is NOW, as the non-fanbois have stated the games like rainbow 6 w/o jumping and even swat 4 are tactical games not balls-to-the-wall fast paced shooters. It is nice to be able to jump in FPS games it makes it normal, not a consolish game, the only other true FPS action game w/o jumping on PC was that Vietnam one, and I dunno how that went.

Jumping in first person is way overrated. How often do you see people,in real life gun fights jump to avoid being shot? A roll is more realistic.Jumping is actually a clever fix to any number of problems that typically crop up in these kinds of games, such as collision issues (getting stuck on stuff) and interactivity limitations; you can jump anywhere but can you roll or climb anywhere and still know how it'll behave? For example if you're under fire but for whatever reason the developer didn't flag the edge right in front of you as being climbable (very possible on a huge 64 player map), then you're trapped where otherwise you could jump over it.

I do it all the time. I jump to work and jump down the street and jump when I'm in the checkout line at the grocery store. Then again, I'm severely retarded, so that might explain something.

And I thought I was the only one that did these things. I also skip at work, much to the amusement of my colleagues.

Personally, I had to stop rolling to work when I moved to the city. I was just spending too much money on clothes.

Wow, talk about a trainwreck. This thread went from talking about a PD0 LE to jumping and skipping...sounds about normal.

Anyway, graphically the game seems underwhelming. But, it still has some time to get cleaned up and respectable. Besides, some swear they have seen the PD0 in person and it looks amazing. Yeah, I'll believe that when I see it.

Not overly interested in the game, but the extras seem better than average. Oblivion is what I'm waiting for. I can hardly wait to be severely disappointed by this 'radiant AI' they have been talking about.

I've been disappointed by overhyped games on Xbox before...and ps2...and ps1...

Oh right, I forgot to mention that I'm quietly optimistic about PDZ and am almost looking forward to it. I need to see some decent in-game movies before I'm totally convinced, though.

And the LE packaging looks nice.

When did jumping become such a big deal in FPS games? It's always bugged me that as soon as I had someone in my sights they can jump and escape. A few games made it so that if you jumped, you couldn't shoot, which definitely eliminated that aspect of it.
