FFVII: Advent Children Delayed

According to 1UP (http://1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3143124&did=1), Final Fantasy VII Advent children has been delayed for two months in the US, the japanese version will still come out on Sept. 14th. No official word from Square-Enix yet but it seems like it is true.

You'll have to pick up the issue for the full scoop, but here's a bit of sobering news: Contrary to previous reports, the full-length CG motion picture FFVII: Advent Children will not be launching stateside simultaneously with its Japanese counterpart on September 13th. Instead, Sony Pictures plans a U.S. release on both UMD and 2-disc "Special Edition" DVD this "holiday season." What does that mean, exactly? Probably a mid-to-late November release, as the publisher wants to get those lucrative day-after-Thanksgiving "Black Friday" sales.

No official theatrical release is planned, although Square Enix has hinted at the possibility of one-off promotional events in major markets. We'll keep you posted.

Oh, and the 2-disc DVD will feature some trailers, bonus features, and behind-the-scenes stuff, but not that cool 'Last Order' anime short that's included in the ridiculously expensive $300 Japanese limited edition. Sucks to be us!
All I can say is that there will be spoilers all over the net and tons of people will just download fan-subbed versions off of the Internet.

As for fansubs, those will happen regardless.

I don't even know if we have confirmation of a PAL release of this? Can someone clear that up for me? Or is it the same fact where a japanese developer thinks their stuff won't sell over here?

Well I reckon the DVD should have the sub and dub... I mean that should be rule one to international movies... I watched Kung Fu Hustle's dubbed and it was even funnier... Annoying more often than not but you get the point... Be like the Xbox 360, give me choices, so i can trick the dvd out anyway i want to you know... <faints>

They're probably planning on releasing Last Order on its own disc is Advent Children does well enough.
Why get people to buy one DVD when you can get them to buy a second with half the content for the same price?

The only upside of this is that I only found out late last week that it was originally slated for a September 14th release. Having it pushed back a month isn't a huge deal now since I didn't have a lot of time to get excited for the 14th.

At least I still have We Love Katamari coming out soon.

Eh, the only interest I could see Sony having is with the pseudo-maybe-kindof-speculative FFVII remake that they keep half-mentioning, but that's far enough off (if it will exist at all) that no reasonable delay would let FFVII:AC better pimp for it.

And given that many people are waiting for the PS3 based on the assumption that it'll be home to the next FF games, you'd think Sony would want to keep the brand as healthy as possible, especially given how long it has been since a "real" FF game has been released.

There is no good reason that a major DVD release that had been planned to be in all countries takes extra time.

Unless of course some asshole changed the script, or messed with something that would require more time.

Well, considering what Deadend mentioned, that the delay seems to be aimed towards garnering money from post-Thanksgiving sales, it could be Sony pushing that through.

anyways, if the movie was available in High Def, then this would be a good reason to wait and purchase it. otherwise, like many of you said, with the inexcusable delay, downloading the rip will be just as good as the original and I'd say go for it so as to stick it into Sony for pulling such stupid shit.
