GameZone has posted an interview (http://gameboy.gamezone.com/news/08_22_05_09_26AM.htm) with Codo Technologies Julian Gollop, talking about the upcoming sci-fi strategy game for the Game Boy Advance, Rebelstar: Tactical Command.
Question: This is a sci-fi strategy game – what kinds of units will we be able to use in combat? Are there any units designated for unit healing or repair?
JG: For the Campaign mode the player has the rebel characters. These include a variety of human characters and training robots, some of which are available for battle. In the multiplayer mode, players can actually take control of some of the aliens. We have big, strong beasts; bug-like creatures; and giant dinosaur-type creatures.

They compare this to Fire Emblem, it should be a good title.

Was it just me or did this strike anyone else as a strange question to ask? Of all the things related to sci-fi stragey game units the interviewer specifically wants to know if there are healing or repair units, like that's such a major feature of a sci-fi strategy game.
Anyway, I like Fire Emblem and I like sci-fi so hopefully this won't dissapoint.

From what I have read on this game, it seems like a better comparison would be to the X-Com games. Either way, I am really looking forward to this one.

Let's hope this is as good as Fire Emblem. The GBA's desperately in need of some new non-tie-in games.

I hope this game has the research element like in X-Com, so eventually you're able to manufacture alien technology.
From the interview though, it sounds like you scavenge items from the battlefield and stock your armory, though it seems you don't even have an armory until later in the game...hmmm...
I'm definitely picking this one up though, I love X-Com...

Looks more like Laser Squad nemisis to me than anything. If so that is a good thing. A mix of X-Com, Fire Emblem, and Laser Squad could be great! Any idea on a release date, didn't see one in the article?

Here are some additional links concerning the game, including screenshots.

It look like it comes out on the 7th.
From the vids I saw of it, it looks fun. There did seem to be a bit of framerate problems but I will chalk that up to early code. Definately a fun looking game.

The trailer even says, "From the makers of X:Com UFO defense".
SWEET. I'll be getting this puppy.

Those are totally smurfs.
BTW, "makers of xcom," stop making craptastic-looking 2D games, get with the new millennium.

I also agree that when faced new tactical game, created for the game boy advance, from the creators of one of the greatest strategy videogames of all time, we should judge this title on its graphics.

Little harsh there Ace. It's too bad Atari won't do jack with the license though. Wouldn't it be great to have them in one package with updated graphics for the GBA? :(
Playing Advance Wars: DS has convinced me that any GBA game (and esp. a tactics based one) can be made 100% better by adding stylus interface and wireless multiplayer. It is a crime against games that Rebelstar will not be taking advantage of either of those features. Seriously, port it to the DS and add exactly those 2 features (and the extra 2 rows/columns of tiles if they are feeling productive that day) and I would pay double whatever they are going to charge for the GBA version. :)

From what I've read, this game is tactical only. No bases, no research, and linear. That's why the Fire Emblem analogy fits better.

This game is indeed made by the guys of XCom.. they made a game called Rebelstar Raiders on 8-bit machines a looooong time ago. This is the updated GBA version. You could call this game *the* original turn based strategy game.
Rebelstar was the follow up to Rebelstar Raiders, a BASIC program. In addition, it was followed by Rebelstar 2 and Laser Squad. It could also be though of as the precursor to the PC/Amiga game UFO, due to the strong similarities.

I'm just saying they seem to be stuck with 2D graphics, and crappy ones at that. Have you tried Laser Squad Nemesis demo? It's pre-snes stuff.

Ohhh okaaay... What anger? Do you also see dead people? :D
