Good morning! (And if I don't see you: Good Afternoon, Good Evening and Goodnight!)

Today is national "Make Mythic Happy Day!". Click on the Dark Age of Camelot Banner above, download the demo and try the game for free for 14-days.

That would make Mythic Entertainment very happy.

This message brought to you by the Letters E, V, I, L and your friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man.

(You get bit by one Black Widow and suddenly when they need you on the radio at work, it is "Hey, Spider-Man!")

Does this offer require that you already be a subscriber or was that a different DoaC offer?

Probably would make them happy being no one plays anymore.

Same thing happened to someone I worked with. He got bit on his leg, we called him spiderman for a month.

I was going to do this last week. I downloaded the 1.8GB client, and the 50MB patch. Then it told me it would require my credit card. This annoyed me -- why do they need my credit card to demo their product, and why isn't this mentioned somewhere on the site?

So I emailed them. According to the rep that replied to me, you get billed if you don't cancel before the 14 days are up. No thanks :)

Yeah.. I agree... I don't do stuff like this any more. If they pretend it is "free" they shouldn't ask for my credit card.

At least Anarchy Online didn't require a credit card for their free offer.

14 days is just enough time to remember all the reasons why I don't like the game. I wish the UO team would announce turn back the clock server, and put up a UO server with the code from 1997-99. Now that would kick some ass.

I used to play DAoC all of the time, I clicked the link but didn't download the client... I have the retail version and all expansions if I need to play it again. Fun PvP, the first of it's kind to have battlegrounds to meet up and kill each other in a 3-way free for all. Although it always seemed that Albion would have most control at nearly all times. DAoC is by no means a bad game... it just pales in comparison to some of today's games.

I clicked on the link and what have you, but I'm just MMOed out these days, and Mythic already made about 7 months of suscription off me back when this first was out.

I did so a few weeks ago.

I got hooked not by the game. . . that is really just too old to keep being updated ---make a sequel already!---- but by the concept of vampires. To play a vampire requires a cumulative $40 purchase of the Platinum edition of DAoC and the Catacombs expansion.

Vampires ARE cool and fun to play. Instancing DOES provide really easy grinding.

However, even on the Classic servers (that remove the hated Atlantis elements from the game and thus are by far the most popular) the PvP areas are barren and the PvE game is a dinosaur. . . the old treadmills upon which the term "leveling treadmill" was originated. Epically boring and repetitive action, insufferably long travel times, antiquated and dilapidated user-interface.

This game is a dying old whore and no amount of rouge and new dresses (expansions) will liven her musty charms. Grant this old and familiar sofa a warm and friendly parting wave, but don't be fooled by the new upholstery. . . you'll still get bitten by the springs if you attempt it's dubious comfort.

You, my friend, have a way with prose. I'm in awe and there are only a handful of people here who intrigue me thus.

Thanks!

Now before someone rips the sweet crown from my flustered brow. I totally reread that and cringed at some of the more cliche metaphor (musty charmed whore. . . yeesh!). Purple prose indeed. :)
