After checking out a buddy's PSP (with the logitech speakers and Midnight Club 3), I gotta say it's pretty. Any retail people have a deal on this that'd like to kindly introduce to me? rein? Gunny?
And what's this about a DS redesign that I'm hearing? Any truth to this?

Lovely as the AVC codec stuff is it's not nearly enough to persuade me to part with my precious homebrew.

Nintendo rehashing an existing product? Sounds like an inevitability.

Liquid, it's a fairly standard setup at our retail house. The new ones are $250 with a 32mb card. The best deal is a used one for $199 and a 128mb card for $40. However, if money is no option then go with the new and a 1gb card. There maybe some package deals out there but I've yet to hear of any. I thought Sam's club might have one (they usually do) but I've yet to see one. Out at yer end of town; however, there might be.

I've always been system agnostic, but I have to admit I dearly love my PSP. I play it incessantly, it's great at work for short breaks. I love it. There, it's out. I've never been a fanboy about systems but my PSP, oh, how do you people say it? It, ahhh, roXors? Am I using that correctly? I'm fairly sure it doesn't suXor.

Im not really a fanboy of either system, though I will say that I do own a PSP.
I'm curious about the specific version of PSP required for the update. My gut feeling is that it is to distinguish now between Japan, America, and the Euro versions.
The v2.00 has some interesting features, mostly I'd like to download some of those Japanese tv shows available on the internet. I always wondered why the movie rips even from DVD always looked 'muddy' on the PSP especially in comparison to the Spiderman2 UMD movie. Makes more sense now.
I don't think browsing makes much sense especially here in America. In Japan the extreme poliferation of i-mode and other phone based browsing means EVERY website in Japan is portable friendly. I would suspsect that 0.01% of any websites we all regularly visit would be easilly navigatable through the PSP.
Both systems really suffer from a lack of a 'killer game' at this point. The DS is probably a bit further down on this road though with its release of Nintendogs, the Adult learning series, and now Advance Wars DS. The former 2 catapulted sales of the DS in Japan, though I doubt a similar effect will happen in other regions simply from a cultural standpoint. Remember, in Japan renting dogs by the hour is a profitable business model.
I think a redesign of the DS is in order. I think the basic layout is fine, but I think consumers are looking in general, for something that looks a bit cooler. You'll notice that the GameBoy Micro is much more sleek looking. Its a far cry from the very 'toy' like look that is standard for all Ninendo products. There is alot of rhetoric from Nintendo that the Revolution will 'look' cool too. Somewhat of a departure for them but I think they see their main money maker, portable handhelds, has competition and they need to respond.
Doyama: have you tried the web browser? It's no laptop screen but you can browse pretty much any site you want and get the info you need from it. I was browsing Evil's site in no time. It makes a lot of sense, I assure you!

God, I'd love it if Nintendo did a limited run of left-handed or ambidextrous-friendly DS machines. I'd have bought one if I didn't have to use the buttons in place of a d-pad when I had the stylus out.
PSP update 2 installed. Best feature for me so far is wallpaper, since my wife bought me my PSP now I can put her picture on the background.
I hear that, I'm lefty also. Despite having a psp and a GBA I really, really want a DS. I know there isn't any reason for it, but god dammit! I want my Kirby Canvas Curse, my Meteos, my Animal Crossing, and hell, I might even buy Nintendogs. Though Nintendo likes to announce new system designs after Christmas, I think they announced the SP in like january and released it just a few months later so I'll probably wait till e3 before I buy a DS.

I'm extremely impressed by the browser for the PSP. It is so much better than I expected it to be. It's easy to read and easy to change views to zoom in if needs be. Great job Sony! Now just make it so that homebrews are allowed.

yep, there's no way I'm getting rid of all my emulators just for a freakn browser.

people get really upset with me when i mention this for some reason, but everything people are going gaga about IRT PSP (music, videos, homebrew/EMU, and now things like AAC support, web browser, and wallpapers) i've been doing with my ngage for years.
Right, but the PSP does it with style, and with a screen that is roughly 2.5 times bigger.

and the price is roughly 2.5 times more :P
for the record, i own a PSP and think it's... decent. it doesn't feel very durable, but i haven't had any real problems yet. except for a sticky button. and no, it's not from Pr0n. i just wish some games would come out on it that bring a new experience to portables. all i see is ports, sequals, and "original" puzzle games.
