Celebrating the Fourth (and Final) season of Battlestar Galactica (The best Frackin' show on television.), the Battlestar Galactica arcade game on Xbox Live's Marketplace will be 1/2 price for a limited time.
Frak!
Those toasters, I mean Cylons are at it again with a mass invasion!
This time they're taking over Xbox LIVE Arcade at an all new low price.
Saturday, April 5th in conjunction with the start of the new Battlestar Galactica television season on Friday April 4th; Sierra Online's Battlestar GalacticaTM game for Xbox LIVE Arcade will be half-price at 400 Microsoft points for an exclusive 24 hour period.
Battlestar Galactica features both single and multiplayer modes and allows players to take part in intense space battles as a pilot for either the humans or Cylon forces. Legendary ships from the hit-television show are featured as well as missions based on favorite episodes. Battlestar Galactica is rated E 10+.
Please alert your readers! For more information about the Battlestar Galactica videogame, please visit the official web site at www.BSGarcade.com. (http://www.BSGarcade.com.)Hard to imagine that such a great show is going to die after this season. Sci Fi finally gets a hit series and cancells it after 4 seasons? Frack!

Given that they'll be replacing it with a spin-off I don't think that it has to do with the size of the audience or the financials. Rather I think that it was a creative decision based on the idea that they can't drag the story out too long without the series becoming stale. I don't really think of it as dying but rather coming to an appropriate end, as any good story needs to do eventually.

Is this game any good? I'm probably going to buy Doom at $5, curious about this one too. Suppose I can always grab the demo.

The demo sucked. If you want to play a decent BSG game there's a great Freespace mod floating around out there that is a ton better than the XBLA game. It won't cost you a dime either.

I tried the demo and thought it was crap.

I think four seasons is about right for a great show. They can end it the way they want without doing the Lost thing(dragging it on for two extra seasons of nonsense).
That said, it will be a sad day when there is no more BSG on tv. It has been my absolute favorite thing on television for the last few years, and I hate to imagine a day when it won't be on anymore. I don't much care for the idea of a spin off, but I'll probably watch it anyway.
I'm going through season 3 right now to get myself amped for the final season, and I still can't believe how fuckin' good the show is.

Yes, it is sad to see a great show come to an end like this. But I'm happy they are expanding this universe by going back to the first cylon war. I definately love the universe of BSG, and would definately watch shows/movies which are set in it. Although part of the reason why I think this show is so good, is because of the way it is shot - almost like a documentary, very real and yet sci-fi.

Yeah, all of the great stories need an eventual end, rather than 1 or 2 seasons of dreck followed by an axing.

Canceled? The creative team is choosing to end the series...it was never canceled.
The series ending with season four is a conscious decision made by the people behind the series, not Sci-Fi.

If you watch other than "Amercan TV" one of the really cool things is that an end is common. I am happy they are wraping up the show and plan to give us another shortly after BSG.
Caprica will take place during the first Cylon war. We will see the cylons
evolve into what they are on BSG.
As for games the Homeworld 2 mod for BSG is amazing.

Ya that's weird. I thought it was pretty big news when they talked about ending it at year 4 back when year 2 was halfway through. I commend them for taking that step AND talking about it so soon.

I suppose it depends how you felt about Wing Commander Arena, the games both seemed pretty similar from my time with the BSG demo. I made the mistake of purchasing Wing Commander after Spigot's recommendation and didn't feel like getting burned again. I may give this another look at the lower price point though.

I didn't enjoy the game at all, because I have too many ideas on how I would have made a BSG game.

Sigh, I was hoping it would be half price to buy the DVD sets. Even though I'd rather they released HD boxed set of the entire series including the podcasts as commentary, I'd shell out cash for it.

Don't forget about Beyond the Red Line (http://www.game-warden.com/bsg/), which is also free.
While the space battles in BSG are cool (the show, not the game), I felt the strength of the show was the acting and interpersonal relationships. I'd prefer a dark and gritty RPG rather than yet another space shooter.

And in case anyone is wondering the full version of the game is just as crap as the demo.
It's just amazing what they can sell on Live for 800 points.

What are you talking about? The damn show has been off the air for over a year. I've basically given up caring how they resolve it. SciFi Channel has killed this show with the damn scheduling bullshit.

The writer's strike wasn't their fault. They had planned on it coming out sooner, albeit not much sooner, but still. It did take over a year for it to get here, but I'd be willing to bet it will be worth it. They needed all that time to make it perfect.

I loved the show but it kinda jumped the sharks when the show jumped 2 years while they lived on that planet.
It really jumped the shark now that a bunch of people that have
been on the show for awhile are now all of a sudden cylons. I am glad it is ending while I still like it and before it gets any worse.

Urgh. Anyone who labored through the six or so episodes after the Exodus from New Caprica understands why ending after this season wouldn't be a bad idea.

I'm with you on that. I love watching the show but, frankly, I think they're ending it at 4 seasons because they written this gawdawfull mess and they can't think of a clean way out.
I liked the new cylons for the first season or two but now they're just so incredibly neurotic I almost prefer the tin cans.
And seriously, if you had only 12 models, why would you waste one putting it in the position of a drunken XO on a Battlestar that was in the midst of being decomissioned? Actually, that's 2 of 12 they put on Galactica as sleepers. C'mon.

As for this being the final season, I'm cool with that as long as they are able to tell the story they want to tell. I'll be sad when it's over (I'm not sold on Caprica) but I'd rather a series have a planned ending than either end abruptly or drag on past its prime.

Eh, those episodes weren't that bad. They didn't do much to advance the main story arc but they did buff up some of the characters' depth a bit. I have one friend who loves the show and she specifically mentioned a couple of those episodes as some of her favorites of the season.

From a plot standpoint they weren't terribly strong but by god, did they ever flesh out some characters, especially the ones who had basically been hanging on the sidelines for the first two seasons.
1st season? Awesome, and smartly written. 2nd season? Lots of filler with very little fight scenes, but good overall. 3rd season felt much like a soap/space opera with the whole love triangle With Lee/Kara. Last nights episode was pretty kick ass. If they can continue this to BSG's conclusion for the 4th season, it will end up as a great series and not drawn out like X-Files 9 seasons or why the Lost plot line ended up a train wreak.
Oh yea, and I downloaded the demo of BSG. Meh, it reminded me of a 3D asteroids game with Vipers (same basic shape). ;) Too bad, cause I still have some MS points burning a virtual hole in my Live account's pocket.

Sorry man but I gotta agree -- Lost started out awesome, but then well... the writers got lost. (Pun intended :D)
I'm glad that this isn't going to happen with BSG. They need to keep the whole thing tight, intense, and keep you guessing right up until the end without some sort of a comfort zone knowing the characters are safe because of future seasons.
