Its a black box with a bunch of wires sticking out of it...I was expecting some kind of mystical enshrined arc thing.

It's black.
Damn them.
Oh well maybe when I finally decide it's worth my money I'll be able to get a black one.

I find it amusing that the dev didn't have the forethought to blur out the serial numbers. While I doubt MS will be in an uproar over a picture of the final dev kits, it's still not a risk I would take.

You don't like the Crystal one? I found mine much better than the first one I had (which I got at launch). Quieter fan, harddrive is silent and same with the DVD drive. My old Xbox used to have a loud hum when I was watching DVD movies and the harddrive would always chrip when it was loading. I've also noticed a few performance problems that went away. Plus, I like it being see-through.

That's nothing, what I want to see is the Dev-kit launcher... I've heard they've never shown pictures of that....

yeah, it is quieter than my housemates' boxen - particularly the oldest one, which has become worryingly loud, recently.
problem is, i can see the internals: i can see the guides for where to connect the two halves of the pressing together, and where to connect the wires and PCBs and stuff. and don't get me started on the 'ring of light' on the front. which in this incarnation becomes a fully visible pair of piercingly bright green LEDs. i've actually thought seriously about spraying the thing black.
the worst thing is, i knew i hated these crystal cases - who wants to see the insides!? that's why you HAVE a case in the first place!! i had a high-horse all ready to get on about it! but then it was new, it was the thing to have, and i was duly suckered in. to be fair, it was difficult to get hold of black boxen when i bought it (around halo2 release). let's just say (slightly euphamistically) that i'm a late adopter. as opposed to a cheapskate leecher, that is.

Heh, well the point of the case is so that when you spill a drink on it, it's not landing directly on the mainboard. ;) But, to each their own, I really dig my Crystal Edition. I'm also looking forward to the 360 being white, I've grown to like that look.
