Is this game worth 50$ on the PC? Never did play the console version as I don't own a console heh. Should I bother with it on the PC or is this something to skip or at least wait for bargain bin?

The general consensus seems to be that the game was pretty average, but personally I loved it. My girlfriend and I both passed it several times, and have been looking forward to this since it was announced.
Then again I didn't follow the hype and bought it because it was an xbox rpg (rare!), so I wasn't actually expecting much when I loaded it up :P

I really liked the original Fable despite it missing some content. Now that the Lost Chapters is coming out I would say buy it. Good thing it is also being re-released on the Xbox with the added content for only 20 dollars later this year for those of us who would rather have it on a console. :-D

I wouldn't drop $50 on it personally. The game is average. The biggest gimmick is that you can use facial expressions and build up a reputation that is either good or evil. It didn't feel groundbreaking or particularly great. I played it a few times and now it rests unused on my shelf.
There is fun to be had on it for sure, but not $50 bucks worth. I think $29.99 is a fair price to pay for it.

While I'm someone who enjoyed the game despite the over-hype, my vote is to buy it only if you enjoy action-RPGs. If your attitude towards them is one of indifference, I think you'll feel robbed. But if you do enjoy them, it was one done very well.

Role-playing fans yearning for a rich adventure will have to keep waitng for something else, maybe Oblivion, maybe STALKER, maybe Gothic 3, hell if we know, but Fable is not it.
Better?
Even though a level editor for the game would be nice, as it had some potential... but the game had dumb stuff, such as small areas, and short story.

STALKER? What is it doing in the list?

Simply put: No. It'd be a good bargain bin game, but it is -not- worth the full price. Save your money for Oblivion or blow it on something else, whatever, but this is not the game you wanna spend $50 on.

I have played this on both the Xbox and the PC and it is a pretty decent little "3rd person fantasy shooter", but it isn't really a Role-Playing Game at all. If you look at it as more of a platformer and less of a RPG, it is really enjoyable.
The graphics are pretty amazing on the PC, but equally impressive on the Xbox. If you own an Xbox, wait for the $20.00 budget version of Lost Chapters. If you don't own an Xbox, I would wait for a $29.99 GoGamer.com sale.

Fable is great.. it has some bad design decisions (small areas like someone mentioned before) but the athmosphere is there and the fun as well. Just remember it is an action RPG and very "English" in style. It really tries to introduce some freeform style roleplaying in a computer game. Something few games have really done before (Darklands!!). It can be a bit easy, but it is definitly an "experience" and not a stat exercise (sorry JRPG lovers...). I really enjoyed it... and some of the things Fable introduced will be taken for granted in future RPGs.

Fable is over hyped shit, the game has an interesting story, I'll give it that, but the hack and slash gets old egg REALLY REALLY fast, OH LOOK I CAN FART ON YOU, or I CAN BEAT MY GAY HUSBAND TO DEATH! Oh how quickly the novelty wears thin.

Yeah I want this. I've heard good things about Fable (All except how short it is) so the extened vesion sounds like fun.

Don't put Fable and Darklands in the same sentence (you don't BTW, hehe). Darklands is the game that has inspired Baldur's Gate battle mechanics other than being the greatest pseudo-historical RPG ever. Fable is a more like a juvenile Sims-Hack n Slash.

I'm sure you didn't mean to do this, but for some reason you actually made me want to play the game now.
I'm going to pick it up, it looks fun and thats about all I need from a game.

Err...
BG = Dungeon and Dragons (broken) level based rules
Darklands = Runequest skill based (elegant) rules
As great as BG is, the combat system is totally different from Darklands (unless you mean the pause + give orders mechanic).
Anyway... Fable is definitly trying some interesting things... I guess we need to wait for future versions to really develop those ideas better. Simplifying it as a juvenile hack & slash doesn't show a lot of insight sadly. And I can understand some people see these new things as gimmicks but still.. how many games can you recall that have a system where your character changes physically based on how you play and what you do (yes.. I know what games will be on that list.. they all came after Fable no?). The software to achieve this is pretty cool and I am sure it can (and will) be used to much greater effect in future games. I only wish Fable would have implemented a more mathematically generated world, so every user would have a different world, with different goals and "features"). But slowly Western roleplayin games are moving in that direction (Morrowind, Oblivion) so I guess it is just a matter of time before Fable and Oblivion meet somewhere in the middle.

Exactly. Most of the previews have been very promisng as well. I am looking forward to Fable.
The thing about Fable was that it was obviously designed to be easy to slot new content in without breaking the existing stuff. The sad part is that they spent so long on the "infrastructure" that they never got around to adding enough content.
Of course the really, REALLY sad thing was my 2 handed weapon, platemail wearing, Bare Knuckle champion beserker finding that the final boss had to be killed with either a bow or spells. Thanks a fucking bunch Molyneux.

Yes that's what I meant. I recalled an old Gamespy interview of one Bioware honcho of where they got inspirations over the pause + order combat mechanics. One of them is from Darklands.

yeah, I was really pissed about this as well. I did almost NOTHING with bows during the game, and ended up balancing magic and a big-ass sword. I didn't even own a bow!
Then I have to shoot a bow????

I really did enjoy the game, it was a lot of fun. But the whole thing felt a little light on story/story was fluff. It never really felt "epic" enough for a RPG.
I picked up the game used for about $20...the extra content should make it worth about $30 at most.

A relatively short action-rpg, of a generally ok nature.
I think I spent more time trying to sleep with the various available female interests than anything else. Once you've got a rep, it is pretty easy, though, lol.
It never gives you that "high fantasy" feel, so don't go looking for it, it isn't there.

From what I played of the Fable beginning, I wasn't particularly enthused, but I might pick up the $20 full game and give it a proper try.
