Picking up immediately where the original Myst ended, players are presented the privilege, challenge and responsibility of restoring the lost empire of the D'ni - an ancient civilization of people who thrived for thousands of years but later met with a great catastrophe.
Ubisoft has released a Myst V: End of Ages playable demo, allowing you to try out part of the game, although specific content details are not available at this point.
You can grab the Myst V: End of Ages demo (http://www.worthplaying.com/article.php?sid=27629) (270mb) over at WorthPlaying.

I'm somewhat confused as to how this game picks up right after the original Myst without disregarding the other 3 games. I hope they aren't retconning the universe, since a huge part of playing the other games was finding out what happens to Atrus' family.

I hate these games. I love the story though... The novels are awesome.

I liked the novels also. I need to pick up the 2nd and 3rd one in Hardcover.
Kind of a shame that Cyan really doesn't know what to do with the franchise. The Myst MMORPG (Uru: Ages Beyond Myst) was a fantastic idea, but they forgot to include the "game" in their game. (Nice graphics, too.)
What I found really odd is that realMyst just freaking rocked and rolled and yet Cyan dumped the whole 3D thing and let people go back to the 2D static screens for Myst III and Myst IV.
Did anyone try out this demo? Is it more crap-ass 2D bullshit?

I liked Myst 4 from ubi's internal studio. This can't be that bad, I'll take the plunge.

That's honestly the first time I've heard the word 'retcon' used outside of the world of comic books (besides conversations with my geeky friends), and for some strange reason that excites me.

I liked the demo, I could not even solve the first puzzle because I am tired, lazy, and easily bored.
Full mouselook/WASD controls. Great graphics.

Nope, it's 3D like Uru, and it's quite pretty. Fairly vid card taxing too, but you aren't shooting things so getting 60 per sec isn't terribly important.
I have a few issues with it: The controls are a little clunky (I can't seem to up the mouse sensitivity enough for my liking). I'm annoyed by the way they fix your view when the old guy's talking to you. And there's no jump key. But overall, I'm just enthused to be playing a beautiful and immersive 3D first person game where the gameplay isn't about killing demons or mutants (Don't get me wrong... I do like getting my demon and mutant killing on now and then.).

It really is a nice looking game. Nothing groundbreaking, but nice to look at.
But I must say that I was EXTREMELY impressed with the monk guy that talks to you in the beginning. Really good motion capture + great facial animation + great voice acting makes for quite an experience. I wasn't expecting it, but Cyan did a better job than valvE on their character animation.

Im not sure about any one else, but this seemed realy short.I mean it was like 15-20mins to figure out the puzzle that ended the demo. Did it come across to any one else as short or did I just miss alot stuff?

What can I say? I'm a trend setter.
Downloaded this last night, wish I didn't have to go to work, I look forward to playing it when I get home.

What's the big deal with using "Retcon", ...it's a perfectly cromulent word.
