Electronic Arts announced today that Eric Brown, McAfee's CFO and COO, will be replacing EA's former CFO Warren Jenson. Jenson announced earlier this week that he would be leaving the company. (http://evilavatar.com/forums/showthread.php?t=47074)

From Shacknews: (http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/51960)

"Eric's strong financial background, broad international experience and industry knowledge makes him a perfect fit for EA," said EA CEO John Riccitiello. "Eric is a highly-regarded CFO, and we are looking forward to having him join our team."

Not like the CFO needs to know anything about games. They just need to know the financial side of things, which would be the same for any software company, I would think. In some other executive positions might make more a difference.

If there's any kind of company that might be more money hungry for a useless, performance decreasing product its anti-virus companies. It'll fit EA just fine.

I have friends that worked for McAfee. They were not a well run company, atleast this location wasnt.

EA doesn't seem to care about their image, and why should they? While some of us boycott their games (at least just renting them rather than buying them), they still sell the crap out of fairly bad sports games.

The thing is. . . I don't even really care that much. I may choose not to buy games that I don't like from EA, but if they were to take over Take Two and the next Bioshock and Grand Theft Auto were published by EA, then I'd still buy those games. Hell, I know I'm going to buy Spore and Warhammer Online when those games come out.

McAfee is victim of what most 'small app' companies that have been around for a decade are guilty of - bloat ware.

remember when easy cd creator was a 15mb download. nero was like 10. mcafee antivirus was like 6mb.

now easy cd is what.. 2 dvds.

and mcafee went from being a little app that just monitored for virii to being a compeltely integrated system monster that didnt work and eats like.. 200mb or ram or something stupid.

in any event.

how could it make EA any worse? lol.

Whenever I go to a friends house to fix their networking problems the first thing I do is look and see if Mcafee is installed. Usually it comes as a demo when they bought the thing and they either let it lapse or bought it outright. I uninstall that vicious program and install AVG-Free. Instantly all network problems are installed and my friends can't stop raving about how fast I made their computer.

Mcafee is shit and should never be used. Its not even good for a bloatwear piece of garbage. Heck norton does the bloatware thing better. I'm glad this is only the CFO and not anyone involved in the programing.
