Meh! Nothing special. I could knock out better in less time than it takes 3D Realms to code Duke Nukem Forever.
Anyway...
They look very cool. My only hope is that the engine is optimized to run speedily regardless of any given computer's specifications. Given the choice of platform, I'd rather play this on a PC, but I will buy the 360 version if the system specs are too outlandish.

Unreal's engines have never impressed me because everything is fake. It's not like the Source engine where the things you see actually can be manipulated and have potential purpose. It makes for a pretty screenshot, but as soon as you start playing it all just melts away and might as well be a grid like in the movie Tron. I havne't played much 2004, but can you even shoot out windows yet in that game? I seem to remember them being ridiculously laser proof...

It would be nice if they cranked up the enviromental interaction. As most levels are simply levels and not enviroments.
I know people CAN make it so that windows and such can be destoryed, but it's not as simple as declaring something as glass and let it go. At least from my memory.
I don't remember many maps where things could be altered by gameplay.

I wonder if this is gonna lead to another Unreal Championship(3) game on Xbox 360(The name is worse every time I say or type it)... Or will they just port this over and call it UT 2007 like it is...

As the sprocket in Conker's would say, "Fanf--kingtastic!!"
I'd have to see this monster in motion though. I wonder if they can keep this level of beauty when you have to deal with I/O and effects.
But the screenshots are beautiful and I hope the 360 can crank these effects out. Otherwise I'm in for having to buy a new and much more expensive PC...but it is about time when I think about it...

I've seen these graphics so much now I just want too hear the specs to know if its worth upgrading or wether or not to get a new console.
Well the Xbox can run the U3 engine (see GoW) so it should run this and Epic have said that UT 2007 is coming to console(s) they haven't said which yet, but I'd say both as GoW is on the 'box and they played a ((an) apparently actual realtime) video they made from UT 2007 in the Sony E3 conference.

Whoa earthworm... Slap that 360 at the end of your xbox... I was confused for a sec...
Gears of War and Unreal 2007 are both from epic and the both have the same engine... The ingame footage they showed behind the scenes at E3 looks just like Unreal 2007 even in style... Best Buy had this long Unreal 2007 trailer playing, kinda pissed I can't find it online... I think it was malcolm fighting a monster or something and they fell off a cliff some how he got his gun and shot the monster before falling... It was crazy, but the graphics are on point... IGN even has some in game play of UT 2007 and it reminds me of a UT game.... Although it did look like outside scenes from Gears...
But that's the beauty of PC gaming... in most case you can turn the game settings down to play like crap... Only upgardes are needed is to make the game faster and prettier in most cases...
They look illustrated rather than rendered. This is a good thing.
Yes, definitely top notch artwork. I'm still finding it hard to get excited about these moderate increases in graphic fidelity (although I enjoyed the game, I felt the same way about HL2). As long as the gameplay isn’t as much of a relative letdown as Doom3’s was, then I’ll give it a shot when it’s available.
Regarding static vs. dynamic stuff, it is significantly harder and limiting to design dynamic content, and although I personally would sacrifice the graphic quality to get the more interesting gameplay, this is not going to jive with Epic’s overall business strategy. Currently they’re trying to maximize the graphic/screenshot impact so they can promote the engine, I’d expect them to do more dynamic stuff next generation.

You have seen this running? UE3 vids have been around for about a year now, and I personally think that its quite a big step over even the D3 engine.

Yea, I've seen videos, which I don't think are any more impressive than the HL2 videos were when released (frankly, a bit less impressive). I'd say it's better than Doom3 as well, but that's not really a very high mark in any area other than graphics.

Yes, wow and all that. Like I'm gonna be able to afford the $8k for the required graphics card. If things keep going the way they are, I'm going to being playing a lot of Nentendo while Sony and MS duke it out to see who can make the most expensive console.
Oh and to all of you who felt compelled to invent silly words for exclaimations of praise: Gehsundheit.

stupid question: doesn't GoW have environmental interactivity (or am I smoking something - can't think back as far as e3)? If so then shouldn't/couldn't UT2K7?

GoW does, yes. They claim a lot of interactivity with the environment, but who knows. Heh, did anyone else love Red Faction for that feature? Man, I used to sit around with a rocket launcher for an hour trying to figure out which walls I could blow through to reach another room.
Interactivity = teh bomb.

From what we've seen GoW has a little, not much (not much different from other current action titles of it's type). I'd expect UT2K7 to have much less though, since it's limited by the fact that much of the focus is on MP, which doesn't lend itself well to a great deal of dynamics.

Blowing holes/tunnels through walls in Red Faction had an entertainment factor that lasted maybe half an hour. Good idea, just wasn't implemented in much of a meaningful way in RF. There were only a couple spots where you really used it, and while you were free to use it ANYWHERE, digging tunnels for the sake of digging tunnels is best left to Dig Dug, IMO.
I mean, I can go down that already made tunnel and fight through some guys for some excitement, or I can waste ammo and about 40 minutes grinding my own tunnel to go around/behind them... bleh.
It's just a bunch of high-resolution textures on models that are everything we are already used to. I'm not impressed at all. Show me some realistic multi-shadowing and shading effects, advanced particle systems that cast shadows, self-shadowing, you know, the things that aren't all that common right now, not high-res textures cooked up in photoshop.

The problem with Red Faction is that the "Geo-mod" engine was one of THE selling points of the game. Interactivity on that level should be a supplement to an already great game. Think about the Havoc physics engine, its in alot of major titles today. But none of those titles use Havoc as its selling point. I think something like Geo-mod should be in all games to a lesser extent. Just like you and your enemies take damage, the world should as well.

I'm sorry, but this looks good... Engine wise i think it will offer more than HL2... Now both those games failed to impress graphic wise... Nothing earth shattering...
GOW will have more evironment play cause they are seemingly pushing the getting cover... Doing this and that with savage land...

Nothing that hasn't already been done in UT2k4, play-wise. Everything makes a return, nothing new.
Looks wise... I don't know if the req. will be worth it. Let's just say for now it's just a better looking UT2k4.
And one word: boobjob.

Can someone tell me why almost all of the light sources are red, orange, yellow, etc., while all of the reflected light from the vehicles is white?
It is like in every scene, there are a few very high intensity white lights behind you bathing the scene. Maybe they really were upset with the flashlight in doom3?
this is just unreal flares_everywhere(tm) all over again.

I must say there’s just something about that Unreal Tournament art style. No matter which engine it uses it still manages to combine lizard men, zombie goths, space marines, punk rocking space marines and terminator robots in a landscape full of out of place scenery and multi colored lighting, in a way that’s not unlike visual confetti. The pieces of it look good thanks to the tech, but put it together and you’ve got the jumbles.

I'm very impressed with these screenshots, but not as impressed as I am with some of the readers on this site.
It's interesting that people have been able to infer what the gameplay is like purely from these screenshots.
I wish I could look at a screenshot and immediately know that there's "nothing new" with the gameplay.

Red Faction was to me the biggest disappointment in video game history. They promised so much with that environment interactivity and delivered so very very little.

Pretty. But big whoop. I don't need pretty to run around shooting people over and over and over and over and over. I wait to reserve judgement, but it appears to be another incremental increase of UT2K3.

I guess you did not know that the UE3 engine does all that
It has interactive environments to a limit, this is because your connection and the server would spew trying to update the world and new layout and would not be worth the bandwidth anyway, remember this is mainly a multiplayer game and they have to scale it right for people with all types of connections, fully interactive environments would wreck it, I'm sure a dedicated single player game built on UE3 could do much more to the environment.
I also feel the "bloom" is used correctly, and better than some games that just do "bloom vision".

Nope, I didn't actually. I haven't really been paying much attention to the engine. And based on those screenshots, how *would* I have known? There wasn't anything new shown off there that isn't already in a current gen engine.

You can't tell what physics are in the game with screenshots. If you want to see that, download the tech demo using the U3 engine. It goes into great depth on the physics/lighting/everything else. But I mean... that is kind of a stupid response, you have to admit. It's like saying the game doesn't actually move. "Yes it does." "Oh, well based on those screenshots, how *would* I have known?"

Hey, at least they aren't the gay bodybuilders of the first Unreal Tournament.Absolutely. I hate to say it but even though their art style is akin to abstract collage they are getting better at not making their stuff look completely stupid. For example in these screenshots the vehicles almost look to be from roughly the same place... Halo! *ba-dum ching
