The website (http://www.starshiptroopersgame.com/) for Empire Interactive's Starship Troopers game has been updated with more info and content. Included is a new movie and a forum with meaty information. The Forum FAQ advises a September 1st release for the demo.

I can't wait for this. The demo was originally supposed to come out July 1st of last year. I think the wait could benefit us a whole lot, especially when dealing with a license like this.

Funny, I had a discussion/argument with my roomate earlier today about the movie. I think it's a fine movie, as long as you keep it and the entire franchise seperate from the book... He says that the fact that they licensed it and then did something completly different basically makes it irredeemable.

meh, the movie sucked. Instead of using the book and making a cool game they are making a silly game based on a horrible movie that destroyed a good book.

Starship Troopers is a fantastic action movie. The characters are likeable, the women are hot (and naked), the action is intense, and the special effects still hold up. Yes, I realize it's nothing like the ultra important and meaningful book upon which it's based, but you know what? Shower scene.

Although I agree with you that the movie shat all over the book, they already tried an RTS game basxed more on the book, and it sucked hard. This game looks a lot more fun.

I absolutely loved the movie. It's not great by any stretch, but it's a load of fun and fantastic in the popcorn catagory.

When the flick first came out, I always thought how cool it would be to have an FPS based off of the film but one that wasn't necessary linear. More or less, pit you in the role of a Roughneck going up against a ton of Arachnids - totally open ended - just one giant battle. I guess that's more of a personal fun but, for me, that would almost add an element of total replayability.

I loved the book. The movie was great in a mindless way. I am hoping the game turns out great and just delivers on what I enjoyed from the movie. Mainly those cool action sequences with shit going BOOOOOOOOM really cool :)

Its like 'Black' but with cool bugs :)

I saw the first few minutes fo the movie today...turned it off during the football scene.

Was it a series of books...or just one?

First, if you turned it off during the football scene then you didn't see actually see the movie... That just sets up the character's backgrounds. And it was only one book.

I liked the movie, it was a satire, well, a bit of one, with communism vs. fascists. It did everything over the top and was the fist time I saw hyperlinks those "Would you like to know more?" things.

The Book I enjoyed too, as it had similar themes of fascists vs. commies, but made the fascists out to be the good guys, majorly, as their philosphy was right and perfect.

The book was cooler as it had the Powered Armor, possibly the first usage of cool mechs in a army. Combat involved leaping around and saturating an area with destruction. Giving me Starship Troopers based on the book would be cooler, as the Klendathu in there had weapons, and were not all biological weapons. They also had the Skinies who looked like Protos...

The cartoon tried to comprise between the two, and was not too bad, they at least gave the soldiers some armor, but no one ever died.

There was a SST game in development that was based more around the book(well, as far as power armor is concerned), but it just dissapeared. It was third person and looked pretty good.

But what I like about this game is what I want in a SSTs game. Swarms of bugs and tons of fighting. The FAQ said that the standard rifle has unlimited rounds. You can see where they're headed with this...

Think how good an FPS will be if you will have equipment like in the book!

The RTS was still based on the movie. They did a little cross over with letting you use some form of sevo suits, but it was way lame. They also kept the dropships from the movie insted of the bullet/parashoot insertion. Hell the graphics of the game were based on the movie.

The movie was incredibly silly and built around gaping plot holes you could drive a truck through.

I've never much seen the drawl it has over people. Yes the girls are pretty but if your just looking for tits try using the internet. Its called porn and we're the first generation to have easy access to it.. so use it!

I think Heinlein's point, that giving just any idiot the vote causes problems, is as valid today as it was in the 50's when "Starship Troopers" was written. Most people aren't qualified to vote, using some kind of filter like, making everyone serve their country in some way, was just his suggestion as a way to let people who've proven themselves at least 1/2 way worthy to control the direction of the country. At least it's fairer then what the founding fathers intended which was that just the land owners could vote.

I enjoyed the movie. I enjoyed it even more after listening to the director's commentary. He calls it his "fascist little movie". It was about the most far fetched thing I've ever seen but, as a cautionary tale of what might happen when you let the fascists in charge I thought it was OK. Seeing all those pretty people, it made me wonder if they outlawed the ugly in the future (gas chamber for you bitch).

Of course they did, don't you remember the one lady saying that you had to get a permit to have a child? :)

I saw the movie, it's a good laugh, like a bad B-movie you can laugh at, and the game looks like it'll be fun for a blast with my mates, if anything I'll only be playing it for Co-Op so I hope they get that part right at least.

Just a fun crazy game without having to worry about a story or "how-your-actions-will-affect-the-outcome".

The graphics look good in some respects but in others it looks very bland. Could be a trade off for all those bugs maybe

you are so going to pun hell for this.

The graphics looks like a game from 4 years ago. I love how they say on the video "this is actuall gameplay footage", like someone actually might think it is a cut scene.

The book would indeed make for a great game. "Son, here's a suit, here's some nukes, now turn that planet to glass."

"Sir, yes sir."

Avalon Hill made a board game out of the book, surprisingly titled Starship Troopers. It handled the underground building and movement of the bugs with a hex sheet, allowing that player to plot the underground complex and location of his units without revealing anything on the map (until discovered). Game did a decent job of capturing the strategy part of the fighting.
