Don't you just hate it when the icons of your favorite oldies have that dated look next to the newer game icons?
If your favorite oldies happen to be any of the Valve or Looking Glass classics, it's your lucky day. Fans of the respective dev houses have released comprehensive icon packs, updated for the modern desktop.

Looking Glass (http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=95677&page=1&pp=40)
Those are some mighty fine looking icons if I do say so myself.

I got the one for Deus Ex 1. Looks real nice, a bit gimmicky to change icons but o well.

Just one question: Why bother?

Eh, it's the same reason people candy coat their desktops with Litestep.
I'm not gonna bother replacing icons, but if you're that into a neat desktop, more power to you.
That's kind of cool.
I still feel a twinge whenever someone mentions DX2. Ugh, so painful. I've tried three seperate times to get into it, no luck.

A neat thing to do indeed. Its a fun thing to do to organize everything. A lot like me making DS cases for my GBA games.

Most of the icons are to HL2 mods that aren't done yet:( shit! I was hoping I'd have some fun in the HL2 engine tonight too.
Are there any really really good mods for it that are still "underground" at this point?

i'm a freak when it comes to organising stuff to, i cant explain it but it bothers me when my game boxes are out of sequence (i organize by genre and sub-genre). I know its wierd, but like i spend a lot of time organizing gaming stuff, like i have the Fps section, ww2 fps section, vehicle based, and so on, yes yes i'm a freak.
Directory structures, shortcuts, start menu, all organized by function/genre/alphabetical. Both games and apps.
Outside my computer I am an disorganized slob. Go figure.

These are all signs of chronic, persistent OCD.

That'd make for an interesting topic: How is YOUR computer organized? :)
I have all my games and software shortcuts in my Quick Launch bar at the bottom... goes from Internet through regular software, through Bit Torrent, A/V and Spyware apps, then my games, then my IM services.
My C drive is all Windows and Programs while my D drive has all my games and media stuff.
IRL I'm pretty anal, too. My DVD collection, CD's and console games are all alphabetized by title.

:O I've kept all my boxes, I even still have the boxes for System Shock and Monkey Island 1 & 2. Really miss those big boxes, back in the days when you got a proper paper manual.
I used to keep all my boxes, but after I hit about 50 they were just taking up to much room.

I was thinking OCD too.
Once a week I have to clean all the shit off my desk so I can get all to food crumbs out from under my keyboard and give my mouse free movement. My development folder is completely organized in a way that makes programming easier but, that's about the limits of it. I have three folders I back up, "The Bat", Work and CVS. Nothing else on the PC really matters. Occisionally, I'll dump my music folder to the file server.
For a short time, I had the "collector" mentality and was storing up tons of anime. I have about a terabyte now. Lately though, if it's not something I want to watch more than once, I dump it. About 1 in 20 anime series are worth watching more than once (might be 1 in 50 actually). Organizing that stuff simply wastes too much time that I could use to do something really useful.
As for the games, I store the CD key in a text file then toss the boxes and CD sleeves into the trash. The games end up in a CD holder. Worse comes to worse, I can always download the game again and use my real CD key on it. I'm trying to shrink the physical things I have to mess with and make it all electronic. Been thinking about ripping all my DVD's because I'd rather have them in electronic format anyway.

I thought this would be "Queer Eye for the Game Designer" or something. Someone needs to pimp Will Wright up, by the way. I wonder if that's what happened to J Allard?

If Allard was a game designer, maybe that would have made sense. ;)

Are you expecting me to make sense?
Please don't hold me to such unattainable standards.
