EA had originally targeted an end of August release date for the 1.03 patch. Now it appears EA won't meet that target.1.03 Update Progress
In this space about a month ago, EA and DICE listed many of the feature tweaks and updates that are pending for the 1.03 Update. In order to address the key issues as quickly as possible, we set an aggressive release date for the end of August. Unfortunately, as we approach the end of this month, it has become apparent that we will not meet this goal, and we wanted to keep you abreast of our progress. We are committed to making the 1.03 Update as comprehensive as possible, so while it is important to us to keep the release date, it is more important that we take the time to do this right. We will avoid committing to another date, but know that our goal is to get 1.03 out as quickly as possible. Keep fighting soldiers, the 1.03 Update is coming!

Besides all the glitches...this game is still a ton of fun.

It's great but it just feels like an EA product.
They'll milk it to death and then when BF3 hits the shelves people will just don't care anymore.

Well it sucks the patch is delayed, but after the first fiasco I'd much rather have it late than screwed up again.

It's being held in the same vault as the PSP 2.0 firmware, which no one has said anything about this week......

Maybe it'll be held back SO long that they'll just say "oh we've included it in the expansion" and we'll all look like suckers then, because they won't feel the need to release it to the non-expansion, just a guess lets hope I'm wrong but this IS EA we're talking about so :/.

If they repeat history, like history tends to do, you won't need to buy the expansion to get the patches.

I love my BF2, i personally think its the greatest multiplayer game ever made, despite the fact that EA published it (although it was developed by a talented team)

I love BF2. As long as the path fixes issues I'll be happy with it. The whole reason the game has issues is it was rushed, so wait and get the patch right.

I wonder what will come out first... the patch or DOD:Source?

Is this game worth it at $35? I have what many would consider an upper-to-mid range system (128MB GeForce FX 5700, P4 3.4ghz with Hyperthreading, 1GB DDR RAM) and I enjoyed BF1942. It's on sale at Fry's I believe and i'm tempted to go buy it but I'm afraid it'll run like crap.

Oh well, I can always return it.

You're fine, kizke. My computer's definately not as good and I run it well, though I can't use the highest settings.

I really wish they had released the game in a more complete form, after reading the changes they are making in this new patch, I really wish they had been implemented earlier. The game still IS a lot of fun, but we were all looking forward to the end of august as the release date.. here's hoping it's not too far off.

kizke, download the demo and try it out. There are some rough spots, but the gameplay is fun.

yeah, this is the type of game where turning down the graphics doesn't matter because the game is so damn fun.

BTW, what exactly is expected in this patch? Are we looking at glitch fixes or balancing or what?

They're fixing a lot of things, a simple "Battlefield 1.03" query in Google will give you plenty of hits, here's a short list of planned changes:

Server and Client performance improvements.
Improved Server Browser - added Favorites and History Lists.
Point-farming prevention - game will stop Support/Medic/Engineer point farming exploits.
Squads - locked squad leader will get a message if someone wants to join.
Many HUD improvements - see the names of others in your vehicle, zoom level changing depending on vehicle, map zoom depending on map setup (16, 32 or 64 player map) etc.
Teamkilling changes - the logic of how teamkills are tracked will be changed
Gameplay tweaks - the way transport helicopters work will be tweaked.
Additional scoring changes - players who destroy an enemy commander's assets will be given points.

I sure wish they'd hurry up.
