Valve has updated their Steam News Page (http://www.steampowered.com/Steam/Marketing/August19.2005/), with a screenshot from the upcoming Source engine RPG, Dark Messiah of Might & Magic (http://www.mightandmagic.com/us/darkmessiah/teaser/), and word that the Half-Life expansion pack, Blue Shift is heading to Steam. No word on a Source port of Blue Shift or Opposing Force yet. (Or the long lost Gearbox-created levels from Condition Zero...)

I think I may have been the only guy that started Half Life 2 but didn't finish it.

I wonder if he ever found what castle the princess was actually in.

I can't wait for someone to leave Valve and spill the beans regarding HL2, all the failed and redone expansion packs, and the type of buy rate they have on steam.

Huh?

That's what they're doing, from what I understand.

Take solace in the fact that no, Justin, you are not alone. I didn't finish it either. I'm one who generally takes his time in a game. I open doors carefully and peek around corners before running out. I take time to look and see what the developers made.

But HL2? After going through the whole swamp-buggy bit, and then having to hop in the actual buggy, I eventually said "Fuck it. I'm leaving before I have to fly one of those helicopters." I'll get back to it one day, but not today.

Weren't the Gearbox levels released as Condition Zero Deleted Scenes or was that something else?

Those were Ritual's levels. Before Ritual was involved in the project Gearbox was the developer of Condition Zero. They developed a whole "game" that was kind of like Bot Match and Valve didn't like it.

So, backed up somewhere are a bunch of cool levels and a bunch of code that was never used.

I would love to see Valve bring that back to life as part of Counter-Strike Source (and I wouldn't mind seeing the Source treatment for Ritual's Deleted Scenes levels as well).

I'm also curious about whatever happened to Threewave's Opposing Force CTF levels???

Btw I didnt see this mentioned, appoligies if I missed it :)
Dark Messiah of Might & Magic is/was the secret Source Engine project that Arkane Studios has been working on, they were makers of the buggy but critically successful RPG, Arx Fatalis.

Also did anyone else have the trouble I had with Blue Shift?
It was the only game in the series I couldnt play in 16 x 12, seems like I could only go to 12 x 9 or something very stange since Opposing Force, Half-Life 1 & 2 worked fine at any resolution.

I would only be intrested in Blue Shift or Opposing Force, if they get Sourced.

I doubt that getting Blue Shift to work with Steam is a problem, Steam is just a downloader. The real question would be if the source code still exists to do a Source engine port and/or if it will include the enhanced Dreamcast models and textures that were later released for the PC.

I still need to find time to make my own Opposing Force action figure. :)

IIRC, Blue Shift wasn't on Steam because of licensing issues with whomever originally published it. I suspect that somewhere in Valve's recent legal victories they won the right to include Blue Shift on Steam.

I still need to do OF...I got into it...and then school started last summer. I figured I was going to have to hunt down a copy of BS...it wasn't in the steam package my friend gave me (he gave me the code he got with the pre order I believe...or his older one)...I don't have CD's...just my steam account.

Have many people checked out the Dark Messiah of Might and Magic thing? I heard about it for the first time on Penny Arcade yesterday and was instantly intrigued by it. It looks like a lot of fun, and something I'd like. Any thoughts?

So Blue Shift was pretty awesome, huh? I was an absolute Half-life freak and I loved Opposing Force as well. Unfortunately, Blue Shift came out when I was on a mission in Mexico for two years and I never got around to playing it. Every once in a while, Blue Shift will come up for some reason and I'll feel twinges of guilt for not having fully explored the Half-life universe.

I think it looks awesome as well. Lots of cynicism from EvAv community, but that's to be expected, right? :P

It's fun, but really short. I passed it one sitting.

I don't think so. Blue Shift was published by Sierra, the same as Opposing Force and Counter-Strike.

I think it is more of an oversight by Valve, they don't have Gunman Chronicles on Steam either and I mentioned earlier that there is a TON of other content that has been created over the years that is missing.
