I did a quick search and didn't see a thread with this, and we have one for your windows desktop, so why not wow. I'm curious how everyone has theirs setup. This isn't an overly large picture, but you can see what you need to I believe.

That's my 70 hunter, if you couldn't tell by the whole having a pet thing.

I've never been a fan of mods and UI replacements. Everything that needs doing can be done with the standard UI and through my time in WoW I've felt that UI mods and other application type mods just clutter up the experience.

Is all that time stamping and buttons and "streamlining" really necessary? I don't have a 70 yet and I haven't had the chance to raid, but I have been playing WoW for awhile.

That being said, I don't like the life bar or the buffs displayed in a stack like that. It just seems superfluous. We aren't dealing with rocket science or anything here, it's just WoW!

Bear in mind the above question about the necessity is a genuine question and I don't mean to sound belittling in my opinion about Mods and UI changes. It's just I see so many people raving about how awesome mods are and all that while they battle the constant need for updates and configurations and placements etc.

Just seems over thought is all.

Vanilla for me. I'm far from a power gamer. I've never joined a guild, and I don't plan to ever do so. I've never seen level 70. (I've never even been to the Outlands yet!) There's nothing I can't do that I need to with the default UI at this point.

Well, COUGH.

Im not a fan of too many mods, but a few are nearly required at higher levels. A lot of people do it because they feel they need to, after a certain point it just adds clutter and turns it into more of an automated "game" than it already is.

I don't use UI's but I do use a few mods.

Used to be true, but the exception is now threat meters for non healers. Fortunately, these will make their way to the standard UI as well soon.

People often argue that healers need a lot of mods, but ive done every single fight in the game as a healer vanilla just fine. (AFTER they added the raid frame UIs anyways, before had to use a mod to get raid health on the screen). But honestly, cant say I *truly* did everything vanilla, as there was always *someone* using timer mods and announcing to the raid.

Well, pretty soon even that won't be an issue. Rumor has it that Blizzard will be creating a standard threat meter in an upcoming patch, but not likely in 2.4 from what I've heard.

The mods I've used have cleared up my screen space and made my experience better. The stock UI has a lot of unnecessary space takers. The stuff around the party life bars, the stuff around the action bar etc. My computer is down at the moment but I used nerfed UI a lot. Having 3 tool bars I can position as I see fit, along with being able to move all my unit frames (party, focused, targeted, etc).

You also have to look at the history of the WoW UI. When the game launched there were no raid frames. It was impossible to keep track of the health of the entire raid outside of using something like CT raid assist. Many features of that have been added to the stock UI to make the game playable.

Your average rocket scientist would have to spend considerable time to reverse engineer all the combat formulas in the game like the community has. Even something seemingly simple, like a Threat meter is quite a feat considering no one knew exactly how threat works in WoW. Hell, it's still flawed, but it's better than the guessing that had to be done before. Hell, people are still guessing at how threat in the Onyxia fight works, and what causes her to use deep breath. From what I've heard, Blizzard doesn't even know how that fight works anymore.

Whoops. Didn't realize i'd start a debate with the post.

I just like the way the UI looks, I like it look pretty I guess :P

Debate wasn't the intention! Just a question posed to those who use a good deal of mods or add-ons as to how necessary you feel they are.

I understand that a lot of space is taken by the standard artwork around the information. But, if I've ever found that my view feels limited, I need only draw the camera back from the character to get a better look.

My question still stands. Is the download and updating of mods a useful endeavor, or would I just be changing the artwork around the UI to suit my taste?

Many features of that have been added to the stock UI to make the game playable.

Right! This is what I'm saying. The standard UI is now, more than ever, fine all by itself.

Your average rocket scientist would have to spend considerable time to reverse engineer all the combat formulas in the game like the community has.

But would the rocket scientist give a shit? Or would he just play the game like what has to be the majority of regular players who manage to get through Onyxia's lair without the aid of some bean counter?

It still seems like a lot of work and effort to know that the dragon, who intends to kill everyone, wants to kill YOU. These kinds of raids have been completed without the number crunching right?

I remember laughing at LeRoy Jenkins, but I remember rolling my eyes when the guy at the beginning starts number crunching whatever stat he was hashing out.

Bear in mind, like Suicidal ShiZuru has, that I've never raided. I ask these questions of necessity not to lower those who use mods and UI add-ons, but simply for my information for when I do hit 70. Also, if the intent of the aforementioned poster's post was to display the fact that I've been playing a long time without achieving 70, I would have him or her know I made no mention of how many characters I have gotten to the upper levels of WoW among other MMOs. Any reasonable person could see the simple, and I mean horribly simple, pattern that is necessary to "achieve" the upper levels of almost any MMO. A feat not measured in skill so much as time spent just following the directions. Directions that aren't a secret.

With that, I think it may be spiraling to debate and for that I apologize to the OP and suggest that anyone who wishes to counter any of the things I've brought up, do so in a private message and leave the thread to the pictures of whatever UI or mod strikes your fancy.

Shew, thanks for reading if you've gotten through it.

So, can people start naming what UIs they are using? As I am running standard WoW with Zhunter and Omen and even at 24 I am starting to get annoyed with how much space is wasted on the icon bars. I want those icons touching!

Someone tipped me off to curse.com a few days ago, and since then I've been going nuts hunting around for UI mods and other cool stuff on the site.

Here's what I have so far:

Auctioneer: Gives you cool tooltip info on items so you can find out how much they sell to vendors for, and how much they've been selling for in the auction house, along with a bunch of other super handy auction house improvements.

AutoprofitX: adds button in vendor window that automatically sells all gray items

Cartographer: gives you coords on your map (I think)

Killstolevel: adds a counter that estimates how many enemies you'll have to kill to level

MobInfo: gives you more info when you mouse over enemies. Health, mana, etc.

QuestHelper: This mod is totally amazing. It maps out all your quests on your world map, with dotted lines telling you where your next closest quest is, what you have to do, who you have to turn it in to, etc. No more hunting around for anything at all. Just makes the game so much less frusterating at times. I'm totally loving it, even when it doesn't work perfectly (screenshot below).

TotemTimers: This one is just for my shammy, but it gives me 4 icons that tell me what totems I have deployed and how much time they have left. It also tells me when my disease cleansing totem or other pulsing totems are actually pulsing.

Titan Panel: Adds a handy bar at the top and bottom of the screen (pretty small) that has some nice extra info like your current armor health, money, estimated time to level, etc. You can get other addons that will go right into titan panel

Building my UI in WoW was one of my favorite aspects of the game. A strangely addicting metagame.

Aww, I don't think I took any pictures of my UI from when I used to play. I didn't do anything too crazy, but it was a sweet setup. I had this sort of radial health/rage display that described both self and target, having the bars curve around the sides of the center of the screen in a semi-transparent fashion. I loved that mod.
