Consumer Depot (http://www.consumerdepot.com/products.asp?id=26-852R) has the Platinum Gamecube package for only $59.99! This package usually sells for $129.99 in retail!
I just noticed they have Half-Life 2 (http://www.consumerdepot.com/products.asp?id=HALFLIFE2-BINR) for $7.99!

They score well on Reseller Ratings (http://www.resellerratings.com/seller1660.html).
But the HL2 looks like it might be open box, which might mean a used CD key. Apparently Valve will reset these for $10, but you should factor that potential cost + potential PITA into your buying decision.

They are used cds. They used to have HL2 for $.99 too.

Wow great deal. Does anyone have an excuse NOT to own a Gamecube? Really now, if you love games why punish yourself?

I bougt Half-Life 2 for .99 a few weeks ago. It came with a working key and all the stuff was still in it, even the old ATI voucher. It WAS an open box, but I registered it with steam and everything. :)

I've been meaning to pick up a second Cube for a while now, though I don't really need a second copy of MP. Hmmm...i says "w/ 2 games 2 controllers" - what's the other game?

Wait, why do you need a second cube?

Very very tempting...has anyone purchased from these folks? Are they trustworthy? Also, there are three bundles - two say platinum system w/ metroid, one says two games two controllers....curious. They all have different prices too...

I'd really suggest getting a cube, especially at this price. Some of the best games this generation landed on the cube.

It's not THAT bad. The thing I hate the most is the stupid inventory management. NO storage chests to speak of. That is the worst addition ever to a RE game. I have to keep most of my stuff on the floor, spread out between rooms because you cant have too many objects in the same room...for some gay reason.
But other than that it feels and plays like a standard RE game before RE4.
Also, for Pipboy, I'm amazed this is your first console since the Atari. You need to get up to snuff, brotha. You're missing alot of gaming goodness. At least buy a Dreamcast, man! Those are dirt cheap too.

I just picked one up for my nephew and niece for Xmas. Going to trade the 2 games towards a copy of Animcal Crossing for them, which they should have a blast with. They are 5 and 8 and I can't think of a better game than AC to introduce them to gaming in a non-threatening way and one that teaches a great sense of community and co-operation as well.

I've been eyeing Animal Crossing as well for my six-year-old. He's already a PC vet, playing games like HL2, Jedi Knight, Sims 2, and the like. The only thing that's hard is that his reading skills are pretty low and games are geared towards teenager reflexes. I think I'll try to hide the Gamecube until his birthday, and then see how he likes it.
Probably the most appealing aspect is that many console games have a co-op mode, something lacking in most PC games. Buying two copies is an option, but something I rarely do. Of course, now I've got two copies of UT2K4 and HL2. I can't wait to play Garry's Mod in co-op. :)

I'm sort of concerned with the reading amount in Animal Crossing as well, but the items they are given to deliver the various animals as well as the animals themselves names appear in a different color, making it easier to recognize. Plus certainly nothing wrong with a game that is going to make them more curious and motivated towards reading.
The main benefit on AC to me though is that anyone can play it as it is not at all frustrating. There is no deaths or life bars and people can play at their own pace until they become comfortable with the controls. The other is that I can think of no other game that really builds on a sense of communal pride than Animal Crossing. You are working together with your neighbors to build an interesting town by planting trees, donating to the musuem, and friendly competition. The types of stuff you collect in the game is drawn straight from child like curiousity about the world--dinosaurs, insects, hidden treasures etc. There is just no other game anywhere like it in my estimation and it makes all the "big ammo, big explosion" games seem as cliche and shallow as their Hollywood counterparts.

Congrats. Starting with MP is just going to lead to disappointment though, as very very few games on any system approach its glory.
Offtopic: I noticed that EU is getting a white GC. Now Japan and the EU both get a white model. It's not that I want to purchase another GC, but that sexy white jumbles the logic centers of my brain.

The cheapest shipping charge is $12.50 to my area. Refurbished Cubes sell for $60 at the local game stores, and used Metroid Primes are $10. (I already have Midway AT for Xbox.) Am I right in thinking that a refurbished Cube is probably more durable than an Xbox or PS2? I haven't heard about failures on the Cube like I have on the other two.
Does anyone have any advice about going for the refurbished vs. the new?

08-19-2005, 04:37 PM
My cube is the only one of the three current consoles that hasn't given me trouble, and it's the one I've moved around the most (letting my little nephew get to clumsily handle the controls in Animal Crossing). Personally, I would never balk at getting refurbished game console as long as it had at least a 30-day guarantee from the store - if it doesn't fail in the first month, especially a Gamecube, it's probably going to last a while.

If anyone who picks up this bundle wants to know what some other good Cube games are:
Eternal Darkness
Wind Waker (unless you just can't get past the appearance)
Tales Of Symphonia
Resident Evil 4
Metroid Prime 2 Echoes
Super Smash Bros. Melee
F-Zero GX (insanely hard game)
Pikmin 2 (the sequel removes the 30 day time limit of the original, so you can take your time)
Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door
Rogue Leader
Ikaruga (really cool old schol 2D top down shooter)
Resident Evil remake is fun
And Killer 7 and Geist are getting mixed reviews. Averaging around 7 out of 10. Both seem to have some really good points that are brought down by not so good points.

In terms of straight-out fun, the Cube simply rocks. It gets almost more play than my PC, and I've been a hardcore PC gamer since the days of King's Quest. There's just so much good stuff on the Cube... truly epic games like Wind Waker and Metroid Prime down to just-for-fun games you can pick up over and over like Smash Brothers Melee and Spider-Man 2, which I beat in a week but STILL play because the webswinging feels so darn good.
If Cube had included broadband, there'd just be no contest. The "travesty", if you want to label one, is that Halo can be played on X-Box Live but there's no Gamecube Live for Zelda: Four Swords Adventures. I mean, I'd never stop playing.

Back on topic, that is an insane deal, and yes, even if you don't like Nintendo, the cube has enough good games on it to warrant purchase at that ridiculous price.

Maybe I've gotten rusty with my RE's, but those Eliminator monkeys are driving me nuts. I'm just at the part where Rebecca has fallen through the floor and the monkeys are first appearing. Because of the static camera views, I come into a room and cant see the bastards. Then they corner me and fuck me up rotten. I cant even get off enough shotgun blasts.
I also think i'm a little low on health items. I have always saved so many in the past RE's...I'm good on ammo right now, but I hope I dont get hurt too much more. The final bosses really wear you down and that's when I've hoarded all my sprays and herbs.
I hate quiting a game, but this one has me so frustrated. I'll try again tomorrow morning and hopefully I'll turn those bastard monkeys into Spam.

Hey, just thought I'd drop everyone a line that was concerned about the legitimacy of this deal. I recieved my two gamecube bundles from FedEx today (one for my niece and nephew and one for my Landlord for his grandchildren). The bundles apparently originate from Radioshack and include the following:
1 Gamecube Metriod Prime bundle-includes the system, MP, and a demo of MP2
1 copy of Midway Arcade Treasures.
1 set of really generic extension cables.
1 set of really generic GBA to GC adaptor cables
1 really generic Pelican controller ("The Afterglow").
6 "disc protector" cases.
It was obvious that both of the bundles had been opened, but everything was still intact including all the system boxes, manuals and paperwork. 1 of the bundles had the games still sealed new, in the other, both had been opened. The only thing missing was the plastic bags that cover the system and the hookups when you first buy it new. However, when tested, everything worked fine in both in both bundles.
Overall, I am fairly satisfied. The MP Bundle by itself is worth at least $30 more than I paid for the whole package ($71 including shipping). The Midway Treasures is a nice bonus. The other stuff is pretty useless and might serve as trade in fodder towards a copy of Animal Crossing to accompany each Cube at Xmas. Great find, and can't complain at all.

got mine today too. Actually a day early. I ended up buying the factory sealed version and was kind of nervous about it but everything turned out fine. Although given the company's rep online I don't think Ill risk them again. I had images of getting a box that looked like it came off that old snl spoof of fed ex ("We'll make your package look like it shipped last week even if it shipped this morning" and "We take the heat so you don't have to")

Also got mine today, a day early as well. Like EternalGamer said the box itself had been opened but everything inside was sealed and in its original packaging, including both games. you could also go to a gamestop/eb and get the samed used cube for like 69.99 i believe.
prolly same pricing considering shipping and what not. prolly get metroid prime fairly cheap used as well, which i'm sure your mailed copy will be.

Shipping an all the bundle came to $71. By the time you paid tax the used cube with no extras from Gamestop or EB would actually cost more. These cubes have been opened, but I am pretty sure they would be in better condition than 99% of the ones you find at GS because they have obviously barely been used. You are also getting two games and a bunch of other extras (of debatle quality, but still they are free). This is by far the best Cube deal I've seen.
