Writer and director George Miller, creator of the Mad Max series of films, has joined forces with Cory Barlog, former Sony employee and God of War II director, to create a video game adaptation of an upcoming Mad Max sequel, reports Newsweek (http://blog.newsweek.com/blogs/levelup/archive/2008/03/12/filmmaker-george-miller-announces-mad-max-game-collaboration-with-cory-barlog.aspx).
Today, we can finally reveal what they'll be working on first: a "Mad Max" action-adventure game, inspired by the "Mad Max: Fury Road" movie that Miller had been preparing to shoot in 2003 before the war in Iraq forced him to put everything on hold.
This team has the potential for awesome.

I thought it went on hold because Mel Gibson thought he was too good to be in those sort of action movies. Then Mel got served while Miller did some extremely successful kids movies.
I would like this to be good. Now that WWII had been beaten to death, it's time to resurrect the post-apocalypse genre!

Please let this mean George Miller won't be doing the Justice League movie.

Why would the war in Iraq put a movie on hold? That is one of the oddest statements I have ever seen.
Oh, and movie game = FAIL.
Bring back Interstate '76 or don't bother.

Because they were going to shoot it in N. Africa around the time we invaded Iraq, and that kept a lot of equipment they needed for the shoot from being shipped.

I imagine Iraq has plenty of desolate land to used for filming, and with the relatively close, high-tech facilities in the United Arab Emirates and such that could be used for production work it would allow them to make the movie with a smaller budget.

I've been waiting for this information ever since I heard that the movie was in production. Hopefully, it will deliver the same great story-telling as the first two.

They were going to shoot it in Namibia, actually. They just couldn't get all the equipment shipped in time to start production.

Director George Miller has told the AAP two interesting things: Mad Max 4 is going to happen and Mel Gibson won't be the lead. Miller says frankly that Gibson is now too old and too 'focused on his own films' to reprise the role of Rockatansky, so instead he's going to try to recruit a new, young star for the lead. The AAP also notes that Miller began developing Mad Max 4 before production began on Happy Feet, and now that he's finished with that, he's turning his full attention to the project. "I have a few projects in the pipeline including an animation...but I want to do another Mad Max movie and get stuck back into that," Miller said. "It won't be Mel. He was 21 when he made the first one, now he's a lot older and his passion is for filmmaking and directing. I don't think he is into acting and I don't think he would be interested in being involved at all."
Hell nooooooooooo!
<more seraching because it's kinda old>
Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mad_Max_4:_Fury_Road#Sequel) has more up to date stuff:
...as recently as November 2006, George Miller stated that he still has full intentions to make another Mad Max film, telling the press that he’s considering doing the film without Gibson, saying, “There's a real hope. The last thing I wanted to do is another Mad Max, but this script came along, and I'm completely carried away with it." The film's screenplay was co-written with cult British comic book creator Brendan McCarthy, who also designed many of the new characters and vehicles...
...Miller again confirmed his desire to make another Mad Max at the 2007 Aurora film maker initiative. However, he did say he thought Mel Gibson would not be interested in the film because he is too old...
...Production offices have re-opened in Fox Studios in Sydney, Australia late October, 2007...
Damn it!

It takes a bit more than 2 people to make a game. Are they starting their own studio? I don't see any mentions of them forming a company.

This was done before for the Genesis.
Wish I could remember the name of the game, where you played a cop in the future and it had driving, shooting and an overhead arena game.
I think it was made by Grey Matter

QFT. I actually unearthed all my I76 discs a few months ago and was tempted to re-install. So many good memories.

There's already been so many Mad Max inspired games. Fallout is my favorite.

I think Fallout did Mad Max better than Mad Max did Mad Max. Of course, Fallout had 40+ hours to do what Mad Max only had 90 minutes to do. And almost 20 years to figure it out.

I never played Techno Cop, but your description also sounds just like Autoduel (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Autoduel). Man that game was a blast back on the old Atari 800.

Fallout did the post-apocalyptic setting perfectly. I don't think it did Mad Max better than Mad Max because the original Fallout had no vehicles, and no struggle to manage your gas supply.
