View Full Version : Do you usually hit the maximum level?

I very rarely get to the top level on an MMO. Most of the time it starts feeling like a grind by the time I'm about halfway there, and I just lose the will to play. It may be that I don't play them in moderation. I'll play one pretty heavily for a few weeks, then get bored and re-subscribe to a different one.
The only MMOs I've reached the top level in are Ultima Online (no levels as such, but I maxed out 7 skills, which was the most you can do), WoW, where I have a 70 Undead Mage, and Planetside (Battle Rank 20, Command Rank 5).
So how about you guys? Do you usually hit the maximum level?

WoW is the only game I've maxed out a character. Twice actually.

when i first started playing MMOs i quit half way, but after i hit 75 in FFXI about a year ago, every MMO since then i have hit the cap. There are times where i wanna quit and throw the game out the window, but after i get past that for a few levels i really dig the game again.

I almost gave up on WoW at around level 67.
Nagrand just bored the hell out of me. Fortunately I grouped up with my brother's 70 Priest and we hit instances for the last 3 levels. Got some decent gear on the way as an added bonus.

I have never come close to max level in an MMO. The time investment is too large.

I quit WoW at 60, and this was right after the expansion came out. I literally arrived in The Outlands, said "fuck this" and logged. Now Im 61 with another character, and Im almost ready to say "fuck this" again. Maybes its because Im realising that WoW just sucks balls. Wait, I think MMOs in general...
All the other MMOs I have played I got nowhere near the max level.

I still have not maxed out a character in any MMO. For the past year and a half I have played WoW and the highest I've gotten is 35. Sad, really.

WoW is the only MMO I played outside of the first month, so it is the only one I have gotten to max level with.

I think WoW was the first MMO where I maxed out a character and I now have 4 70s and I think 3 characters in their 60s. Back when I played DAoC I got within like 2 levels of the cap. In World War 2 Online I got to the highest rank I could without someone setting my rank for me, does that count?

I pretty much always max out at least one character. EQ1, AC2, Vanguard, UO I did it, EQ2, WoW were not fun enough for me to do it.

I really wanted a max level DAoC character. My friend had one and said that RvR was a lot of fun.
I got to about level 23 with a Human Wizard, at which point it started seeming like a grind.
And I'm currently playing CoH. Just hit level 20 with my Electricity Blaster, which is an all time high for me on this game. Been getting into some good groups. Better than I usually seem to get in other MMOs.

3 Max levels in WoW, 3 maxed out (at the time I quit) in EQ, 1 in DAOC, 1 in Shadowbane. I think those are all the games I've maxed out in.
Played a lot more MMO's than that, so a pretty small percentage actually get my attention for much longer than a month or two.
Never.
I get way too involved with Alt-citis. Checking out different class types, seeing which one I enjoy the best. But after you go through the same areas, 5 times over, you get a little tired.

I get Alt-Fever, but I usually play games long enough that I cap out at one point. Just because I make solid friends and I don't want to be left behind.
The first game that I've maxed out on was Ragnarok Online. Then I just got my first level 70 on WoW after 2 years of playing.

What about The Overthere in EQ? Karana Plains... ew just thinking about all the time in EQ wasted in places like that makes me hurt.

The Barrens...oh God, The Barrens!
I'm definitely bad for making lots of alts. That's why I'm only level 20 on CoH at the moment. I keep getting cool ideas for a hero/villain and making them. I'm determined to stick with Power Trip, my Blaster though.
And on WoW, aside from my 70 Mage, I have about 8 alts all between level 20-30.

WoW and DAoC are the only games where I maxxed out my level. Here's what I can remember so far...
Everquest - 36 Ranger, quit soon after the first expansion came out
Dark Ages of Camelot - max level Bonedancer (50? 60?)
Final Fantasy XI - 49 Thief, gave up on the stupid level 50 breaker quest
WoW - 60 paladin (max before BC), 70 shaman
I swear I'm forgetting a MMO in there somewhere but I'll be damned if I can remember what...

In UO, I got a couple of characters up to GMing most of their skills. In WoW, I got to 60 a while before BC, and got a bit beyond 60 afterwards. In CoH/CoV, I got a blaster to 50 (max level). Those are really the only MMOs I've enjoyed enough, and for enough time, to get anywhere with.

Sadly to say, WoW was the only game I ever did it on. Twice. But I came close on a free MMO named Silk Road and on the original Lineage. I might have on Everquest, but I haven't a clue!
I don't think I've ever been the max level in an MMO. I'm just not very dedicated.

Hopefully in a decade or so my EVE character will be maxed. :p
Never really played any other MMO... I quit WoW after a few days.

Nope. The moment the levels get grindy I switch to an alt... Dark Age of Camelot, I got my main to level 43. That's the most time I've ever sunk into one character. In City of Heroes, my highest character was about level twenty. I just don't have the patience.

I got 60 in WoW (I quit playing before the expansion) and 50 in DAoC.

i've played alot of MMO's in my past. But so far none of them have kept me going long enough to level to max.
Although with the EvAv guild this is the first time I've seen a handle close to MAX in WoW. My warrior is about to hit 62 so I know that will be the first handle that I've ever MAX'ed out.
I currently have 3 level 70s in WoW. I could never seem to hit the cap in any other MMO. I was around level 25 with a few classes in FFXI, I hit 36 in city of heroes, which is actually something I was thinking about playing again after seeing the champions online trailer.

I hit 70 with my Hunter in WoW for the first time, after several failed previous attempts. It didn't really feel like a grind to me because once I hit Outland all the content was new and fresh and sparkley, so I ended up breezing through levels 58 to 70.
Now I'm levelling a Druid that will be hitting Outland very shortly and I'm already thinking ahead to what my next alt will be. :p

The Champions Online trailer is what got me playing again. I'm having a lot of fun with the game now. I spend pretty much all my time in groups now, which I never did before. That might be why it's suddenly become more fun.

Well it was BR20 last time I played, but that was a long time ago. I quit pretty much as soon as they put the BFRs in.
I always wanted a few more BR though, just to make my guy a bit more versatile.

I always wanted to play a Druid. I just hate Tauren and Night Elves. :D

I've maxed out a number of characters... but only in Guild Wars. Can do it in 30-50 hours. :) The focus is on developing max-level characters and skill selection.

CoH is a very group oriented game from virtually every stand point in it's design. They do provide the option of soloing with the scrapper, but it is just generally a better idea to group. That is a big thing that it has over WoW, IMO.
Before anyone says that WoW can be played entirely in groups, and CoH can be played entirely solo: The big difference, mechanically, between WoW and CoH that makes one so much more group oriented than the other is that in CoH missions (quests) are MUCH easier to get and turn in, and everyone in the group (regardless of whether or not they grabbed the quest themselves) gets an equal reward.

Yeah I love that it rewards you for grouping.
On WoW I get the feeling a lot of the time that you have to work harder to get as big a reward when grouped as you would get from playing solo. True you can do stuff like Instances, which you can't solo, but other than that there's no reason to group at all. With CoH you can group for anything and everything and it pays off.
I also like that on CoH there isn't an overly strict group structure.
On WoW you need a Tank/Healer/DPS without exception.
On CoH, at least up to level 20, which is where I'm currently at, I've never had a group break down because we couldn't get a Defender or a Tanker. Sure it can be harder, but it's not impossible.
That might change as I get higher up in the levels though. I've never been higher than this before.

I've maxed out 2 lvl70 toons in WoW, but that's the only MMO I've been able to do that with so far. This is probably one of the keypoints to WoW's success is that you can reach the max level regardless of whether your a hardcore leveler or a casual gamer. (My father has two lvl 70's as well, and he probably one of the most casual of WoW players out there.)
Since I usually quest solo most of the time, the inability to do that in FFXI made that game up (plus all my friends had moved to WoW). That said, i did like the party dynamics in FFXI over WoW as you feel more like a unit when your trying to accomplish the combo/skill chains.
As for CoH/Cov I think my highest level toon was 9 or ten, but I paid 14.95 a month for the best digital paper doll creator (http://bicworks.com/coh.htm) ever! :D
Oh and in Ultima Online, I got it first day, played for an hour in which I killed one rat and died many times, then put the game away in storage. I still think it's there.

I played Asheron's Call on a few months, off a few months, but fairly regularly for a bit over a year. When my main character reached a full year in age, I celebrated by attaining level 14.
Does that answer your question?
