Evil Avatar Alumni Becomes 1UP's News Editor

There's been a lot of coming and going of staff members on our site in the 5 years I've been here. In fact, part of the reason I'm here is because of that ebb and flow. And while many have come and gone, it was a sad day when Philip 'Kefkataran' Kollar had to leave Evil Avatar Radio and take a step back from the site to pursue his career in games journalism.

After spending a year in the trenches at 1UP, Philip announced tonight on Evil Avatar Radio (the show he helped create), that as of tomorrow he will be the News Editor for 1UP.com (http://www.1up.com) taking the place of recently departed (http://kotaku.com/347690/1ups-patrick-klepek-joins-mtv-multiplayer) Patrick Klepek.

Well, previously I was just writing news. Now I'm in charge of the whole news department -- hiring freelancers, assigning stories, and the general direction of 1UP news.

But 1UP is very up-front that a "perfect" score does not mean the game itself is perfect. Also, if you look at the statistics, I think you'll see that generally speaking 1UP scores lower than a lot of sites because of their attempts to use the full 1-10 scale. That was one of their main reasons for changing to the new grading scale.

I've had a couple people say something similar, and it gives me the warm fuzzies to hear. Honestly, there are ALWAYS openings in this area if you keep your eyes open and have some work to back you up. Getting in on the ground floor with a site like EvAv is definitely the best, though.
