Er, online, obviously.
Does anyone play it? Or has anyone recently?
Is it full of suck or is it full of win? Or is it suck and win? (Which is an excellent idea, Suck and Win).
Going to try the trial but wonder if I'm wasting drive space or not.
It is basically WoW with names that are impossible to remember.

I have a couple characters on the Firefoot server and I like it a hell of a lot more than WoW.
It also looks pretty damn good as well, especially for an MMO.

I like the quests more than the ones on WoW, I think the mobs are better in general. I'd also like to commend it for how good it looks and how smooth it runs on my 4 year old computer.
However, I prefer WoW. The combat is better, there is more variety in terms of classes, and I prefer WoW's graphical style.
WoW is also a lot more friendly for the soloer who doesn't have time to find a group every time he wants to play.

I have been soloing for pretty much the entire game and I'm level 44 so I would have to say LotRO is plenty solo friendly.
I know art style is all opinion but I hate the way WoW looks. It was kind of cool five years ago but for me it got real old real quick, of course if LotRO is still around in five years I could be saying he same thing about it. I can't wait for the day when we see entire MMO's with the detail and lighting quality of Crysis.
I do agree LotRO needs more classes or at least more varied looking playable characters but it's still new as far as MMO's go so hopefully we will see some more diverse character models, classes and races in the coming future.

It turns out that it's quite entertaining. I'm only up to level 9 and I had no idea until just a bit ago that there was in game mail, or an auction house, as 7 day trial accounts have no access to them. So I'm going to order the game, as Turbine doesn't simply let you upgrade your account in their system without a retail key, and it's not so simple for me to get out to a retail store and pick it up. So yay for Amazon I suppose.
It doesn't hurt my opinion of the game that I recently upgraded to an 8800GT and can run the thing in 1680 x 1050 with everything all the way up and their DX10 options on. Looks amazing.
I don't know about lack of classes, you have to remember it's Middle Earth, in that sense, everyone would be a burglar, hunter or guardian (aka generic warrior). It's actually pleasant. And the detailed quest text is refreshing, it feels like an actual fleshed-out world and it does feel like Middle Earth.
I'm actually quite impressed. Plus, the population is as a whole eons ahead of the Warcraft crowd in general sense of intelligence and manners. Consider me a subscriber when the game comes then.

Perhaps it was just me with the soloing problems then. I was playing as a Human Guardian and by about level 10 I seemed to run out of soloable stuff. All the quests involved running into groups of 5-6 bandits (and occasionally getting owned by some elite Worg).
I think with WoWs graphics, Blizzard had a challenging task. That being to make the game look as good as they can, while maintaining the highly stylized look of the Warcraft RTS games. And of course, they want it to be able to run smoothly on as many computers as possible.
I think high system requirements in an MMO are a recipe for disaster, as MMOs rely on getting as many players as possible, and high system requirements obviously limit the player base.
I think the upcoming Age of Conan will struggle for that reason.
I don't think WoW is superior to LotRO or vise versa. I think it's entirely down to personal preference, as both are very well made.
With that said, I'm playing neither of them at the moment. I'm in a CoH/CoV month. :)
I got back on this horse about a week ago. I got my brothers and some buddies to start playing.

I'm also really interested in trying this out, just for something to play casually.
My problem is it always starts out with the intention of playing "casually", but it always turns into "obsessively". I think I'll wait till I'm through a bit more backlog of 360 games to try it out. Maybe late summer.

I played it. It got CLOSE to hooking me, much more so than WoW. But it ultimately failed, just like every MMORPG before it.

I play on the Windfola server. I have 3 characters:
Level 8 Elven Lore-master
Level 13 Human Champion
Level 5 Hobbit Minstrel
Overall, I'd say that WoW is a more tuned experience, which makes sense, given the huge number of players they have.
I like LotRO better, though. My only big complaint is that while I enjoy the crafting more in LotRO, it doesn't fit into the economy very well at the lower levels, at least. The crafted items are more powerful than in WoW, so they sell just fine at the levels...but the amount of raw resources required to make some of them is ridiculous, and the auction house prices for the raw materials are off the chart.
On the bright side of all that, though, is that there is no level cap on skills- so you could be level 10 and max out a profession if you had a higher-level alt feeding you the mats. Which could be very cool in some cases.

I am on the Silverlode server, but I am a pretty casual MMO gamer anymore. Once a week is enough for me. This game offers far more to the casual player than WoW did. The traits, clothing, and housing really take the game a step beyond WoW. You can spend time just looking at the game if you really want. Something few MMOs offer.

Played it for a couple of months, my thoughts? The combat system is boring, the character models and animations are weak, the game world is too linear, and group quests dominate after level 30.
From what i saw ingame in my kinship, the endgame is based around raiding, solely, pvp is dismall for the most part, so you end up with even less of a choice than in WoW, when it comes to the end game.

I liked it, I think I made it up to lv 20 something. It is a good MMO, it just has a very limited class system compared to WoW, it also has only 1 healing class. The classes are very narrow and each has their place in the Tank/DPS/Heal/(de)buff family with some slight hybrids in Captains. So I don't think it's better than WoW which thanks to talents, stances, and such it was possible for their to be multiple ways to play a character for PVP/PVE that were all different and all valid.
From Feral Druids who formshift, healbloom spamming, Boomkins and Crap, WoW basically blows away LoTRO on the customization end.
That said, if you can keep a group in level parity in LoTRO, it has some awesome group quests, with great rewards, lots of scripted events and the Epic Quest line.

I played it in beta and for a month after it was released but I got bored. Back then there wasn't much content for the higher levels but I heard they've added a lot of stuff. Maybe i'll check it out to kill time until Warhammer comes out.

I just bought this on clearance at Target for $9.98, which seemed like a pretty good deal. I figured that for $10 I can play for a month and see if it's good enough to draw me away from WoW.
I am installing it now.

The upcoming book 13 content is looking nice, its a pity i hate everything about the games combat system, apart from that, its a good mmorpg, but as you spend most of your time in combat, its a deal breaker for me :(

As a hardcore WoW player I have no problem saying that LOTRO is the superior game in almost every way. I just hit level 30 in LOTRO... since I only play a few days a month (MT for my WoW guild :( )

If you mean with MMOs in general yeah.
I was in the beta 3 months before launch and and had a couple of characters up to 40. Its beautiful, i would log just to walk around to check out the scenery. I quit though after i kept logging in, realizing it was going to take me 45min to anything and then i would log back out. Its just like WOW in that regard.
Its a good game and i would still be playing if it had some things for me to do that didnt take a dick year and if there were areas of the game where i could have company, it got lonely the world is so huge and no main hub for people to congregate.

I played the beta for LotRO, it was pretty good, there were a lot of interesting class and gameplay ideas.
WoW is actually a much better game post-2.1 patch (I think that's what it is), which reduced the level requirements, and changed all pre-60 instance boss loot to blue quality. The content in Burning Crusade is top-notch IMO as well.
I'll be dinging 70 on my second character tonight, then I'll be starting to gather gear for Kara, which my guild just cleared completely last night.

I don't think there are a lot of EvAvers left but we are on Firefoot.
I am on Firefoot as well. Level 39 Captain whose name is Rhedric. Look me up if you have any questions or need help.
