Well, it's Monolith so I have no doubt I'll like it.
Not sure about the hordes of Monolith haters out there, though.

How could anyone hate Monolith?
*Edit* Wow, those screenshots look really shitty. I'll still buy it though, because I trust Monolith.

It looks really, really good.
Hate using melee against melee mobs in FPS games though. It's usually a way to make you be forced into taking damage or have to exploit bad AI (make them swing into objects and clobber them from behind), but I can live with that if the gameplay is good. The visuals are insane.

I have this co-worker who keeps freaking out about this game. Doesn't look that impressive to me, burt if it's Monolith, I'll keep an ear open about it.
Why the hell does every next-gen game look like clay? I know you people are noticing this, too.
ALL THE GRAPHICS LOOK LIKE CLAY.

I hate Monolith for the Matrix Online, but I love them for NOLF.
Woo-woo! Bring this and F.E.A.R. on and I will never doubt you again!

It's the F.E.A.R. engine and F.E.A.R. engine is a "current-gen" PC engine and current PC games have clay-like normal-mapping.

Any sources about this being the F.E.A.R. engine? I do not really care if it is or is not as the game looks very impressive - I just have not read this anywhere.
As for the normal mapping I agree that a lot of games do have a slightly clay like appearance. However, that is far better than the shiny plastic look that many early bump mapped games had.
here is a link to an interview with Jeff Hutt, who licenses the engine via Touchdown Entertainment.

Using the FEAR engine is not a bad thing at all. It's an extremely impressive engine - especially for a first gen title.

Interesting discussion. . .
so does the "clay-like" look detract from the game more than less refined graphics? Does the near-miss of photo-realism look less real to you than something that is more distinctly not real?
Sort of like finding impressive cartoons great, but graphics attempting to be real but not cutting it falling short?

I like Monolith. Matrix online was just some contractual deal(well they all are but you know what I mean...). Shogo? Blood? So many good games.

At first I thought we were fighting supernatural serial killers, but it would seem as though they're just really messed up serial killers that wish to bludgeon the main character into a bloody pulp.

I think they are cloned serial killers. . . or at least all brothers. Maybe they are a lost hillbilly tribe (you know, "cousins")?

This is pretty much a zombie game. I'm pumped for the gore fest.
