Sierra (http://www.sierra.com/) has posted information regarding a Director's Edition of F.E.A.R. (http://www.sierra.com/product.do?gamePlatformId=1875) on the product section of their website. So without further ado...

* Behind the Scenes Documentary video
* Developer's Roundtable Commentary video
* F.E.A.R. Machinima episodes
* F.E.A.R. Comic Book created by Dark Horse Comics (in-box)
* A Chance to win the "Golden Ticket" Sweepstakes (in-box)
* Plus, all the F.E.A.R. installation files conveniently on one
DVD-ROM
Release Date: 10/18/2005 (PC (http://www.gametab.com/pc/fear/2719/))
Thanks to Blues (http://www.bluesnews.com/) for the tip.
I'll buy it just because it's on DVD instead of multiple CDs.

Liquidize105: I'd like to piggyback Everlost's post for a little bit, just in case if you're wondering like I was what the planned extras for the imminent Painkiller Black DVD Edition (http://www.dreamcatcherinteractive.com/dci/painkiller/black.html) are:
* Painkiller + Battle Out of Hell + Bonus Materials
* Mapping and Edition Tools
* The Making of Painkiller Movie
* Limited Edition Penny Arcade Poster
* Exclusive CPL® Multiplayer Enhancement
* Behind the Scenes Developer Interviews
* Never Before Seen Artwork
Release Date: Today (PC)
RRP: $29.99 / £29.99
The only difference with the Painkiller Gold Edition seems to be the DVD itself (which is nice) and the Never Before Seen Artwork (which is alright).

Sounds good to me. The demo was probably the most entertaining FPS I have played in a while. This and Prey are on my list (barring any shitty news about prey -- it looks good for now).

I'll wish I had a DVD-Rom and buy the CD-Rom version because I can't see the use in a device I'll only use to install PC Games on a tiny bit faster and otherwise ignore.

DVD-rom's are so dirt cheap it's ridiculous. Hell DVD burner's are dirt cheap too. 45 bucks for a 16x Dual Layer burner. It's a crime to NOT have one.

your mama.
Yeah, I got nothing. I'm a college student trying to pay off an old credit card bill so I can get a second loan on top of normal student loans for the extremely expensive masters course I want to get into. I could write a cookbook about ways to spice up Ramen noodles.
So basically, if it doesn't improve my gameplay experience, I don't need it.

Me, I really love swapping cd's about 50 times during an install so I want nothing to do with these evil dvd editions. I mean, who could possibly want a smooth install process?

Sure, it'd be nice to have on one disk (now that I own a DVD drive) - but I won't pay more for the game just to get it that way. I don't need the extras, they should really release a standard DVD version if they want to drive the DVD format.

You got it all wrong, they want to eventually get rid of these pesky "standard" editions, and all you'll ever get is Collector's Editions and Director's Cuts and Emperor's Choice, and whatever else. PC is a niche. Even Microsoft is getting into it, with Vista Premium and Office Premium. They want to eventually average $100 a game and $500 an operating system.

man, 30 bills for the Painkiller DVD....i might have to pick that up.

Wow. Methinks I'll be picking up both of these honestly. I'm a big sucker for DVD-style extras on games.
It'd be cool if it had in-game developer commentary like chronicles of riddick.

The demo pops up an ad for the Director's Edition when you quit it. When I first saw it I'd already preordered the regular CD-ROM edition from EB. I immediately cancelled my pre-order and re-pre-ordered the DVD Director's Edition.

That demo made me not order the game. I got annoyed with the shotgun splatting bodies when I did a headshot from 2 ft. away. Then I got more annoyed because a splat means no weapon or ammo for me.
And that "Helo spawn" in the little courtyard. I had the plasma gun and it did jack vs. the pilot. So the helo and its pilot were non destroyable game device to spawn more idiotic troopers.

Sounds about right. You get to use a gun with more firepower, but there is a trade off.
So the helo and its pilot were non destroyable game device to spawn more idiotic troopers.
Me thinks you must be new to the relm of FPS seeing as how this is a very common way of introducing more enemies. At least it wasn't a monster closet.
I wasn't excited about this game until I played the demo. Now I think you guys are going to push me into buy this game, and if there is a DVD option, that's the one I'd go with. Lord knows the last thing I need is 5 (or however many) more CDs to add to my mountain of disks.

I don't know why, but here in the UK (and presumably the rest of Europe as well) nearly all games come on DVD as standard (with no CD edition available), whereas in the US it seems you only occasionally get games on DVD, and somtimes as Special Editions or whatever.
Also, nearly all games come in DVD style cases, whereas AFAIK in the US most games come in cardboard boxes still.
Any reason for this?

Hmm, looks like the DVD version is $5 dollars more than the CD version. Those clever bastards. I'm sold. Pre ordering now.

Hahaha, and I was going to buy Painkiller: Gold today! Good thing EB didn't have it.
(but they did have Clive Barker's The Suffering and Total Annihilation, which I bought for less than $10!)
